Third and fourth on the ladder meet when the Central Coast Mariners host Adelaide United in a blockbuster Round 11 A-League clash. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5pm (AEDT).

\With three wins from their last four, the Mariners have risen to third on the ladder and could move second with a win against the Reds tonight. In his second year at the helm, coach Nick Montgomery has done a superb job with one of the league’s most important clubs, one that looks almost certain to be in the running when the whips are cracking late in the season.

Only the premiers Melbourne City have beaten Central Coast in the last month and with the home ground and crowd advantage today, three points are there for the taking.

Adelaide were back to winning ways in Round 10, after stumbling after the World Cup break; despite some patchy form, they have shown enough to suggest that they too are serious finals contenders in 2022/23.

Always a tricky proposition at Coopers Stadium, Carl Veart’s aim will be to have his team be far more consistent on the road and able to snare points that have previously been allowed to slip away through underwhelming form away from home and some poor defensive moments late in matches.

Team news sees Central Coast without Garang Kuol for the first time, now that the young star has officially headed abroad; whilst Jason Cummings, Josh Nisbet, Beni Nkololo and Samuel Silvera will continue to provide the attacking potency that seems to come to life with vigour during the second halves of games. Cameron Windust is the only addition to what looks a settled squad.

The Reds have some injury concerns. Harry van der Saag remains out, along with defender Ben Warland and Bernardo. Javi Lopez does return for this clash in what is a crucial inclusion, and the presence of Hiroshi Ibusuki, Craig Goodwin and Zac Clough will give Reds fans hope that their team can pull off the win, despite the unavailable players.

Prediction

Both teams score plenty of goals, but also concede too often for their respective managers’ liking. That suggests there will be goals on the Central Coast this afternoon.

Expect one or two early before things settle through the middle period and the Mariners to run the game out well, grabbing a winner in the final 20 minutes.

Good on CCM. Hopefully heading for the glory days when the Roar and CCM used to dominate the league!

Would Richard Piele, the new owner, deserve some accolades as well? He looks to be an owner who loves his club and does all he can with money and passion to see it succeed.

Good on you JB – everyone seems to be looking for negatives and there are some, but there are certainly positives as well. Some articles on our talented young players, increases in spectators (and as someone else wrote – take away the figures from WU and Macarthur and the average is OK), The Mariners, Nick Montgomery, etc are certainly due as well.

Monty is hugely under rated away from the Coast.... and he is the brains behind this side.

Stu = Should also have mentioned that today's attendances took the A-League attendance figure for, and up to game 63, past the 500,000 mark (actually nearly 510,000). This compares very favourably for the same figure "enjoyed" by the clubs last season of 364,000 over the same number of games so it could be said that A-League crowds are on the increase by some 40% -good growth in anyone's report. Cheers jb.

Stu - There is an old adage oft cited in articles here, that if you want to increase your crowd numbers get a winning team. In their last four home games CCM have beaten Sydney FC 2-1, Newcastle Jets 3-0, Victory 2-1, and today, Adelaide 4-0, in front a combined total of 31,000, giving them an average crowd of 7,760. That average is moving them up into the higher echelons of club support in the A-League at the moment. Good luck to them. Cheers jb.

Thanks for being with me for the match this afternoon, it was a pleasure to bring it to you here on the Roar. Be sure to stick around for all the night time A-league action, as Melbourne City and Western United do battle at AAMI Park. In other wonderful news, Wellington has upset Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium. Good luck tipping the A-League folks!!! Central Coast……………..4 Adelaide.....………………..0

Well played Central Coast Mariners, you are building a wonderful reputation as a side to be feared in the A-League. No doubt the Reds will be back, but may suffer a long and quiet trip home following the dismantling they suffered today. Central Coast……………..4 Adelaide.....………………..0

Central Coast were simply too good today, with the Reds off the pace from the start and unable to control the ball for extended periods and thus build sustained pressure. Central Coast……………..4 Adelaide.....………………..0

FULL-TIME What a stunning performance from the Mariners. A goal in the first half and three more in the second, after the Reds went down to ten men following the sending off of Isaias in the 46th minute. Central Coast……………..4 Adelaide.....………………..0

90+5 Dying stages now, as the Mariners head down the right wing. Inside they cut and N'Kololo now on the left and crossing. Gauci takes it well. Central Coast……………..4 Adelaide.....………………..0

90+3 Kusevski in behind for the Mariners and the cut-back for Cummings is intercepted well. Now Kusevski follows up with a shot on goal....it is wide. Central Coast……………..4 Adelaide.....………………..0
