Third and fourth on the ladder meet when the Central Coast Mariners host Adelaide United in a blockbuster Round 11 A-League clash. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5pm (AEDT).

\With three wins from their last four, the Mariners have risen to third on the ladder and could move second with a win against the Reds tonight. In his second year at the helm, coach Nick Montgomery has done a superb job with one of the league’s most important clubs, one that looks almost certain to be in the running when the whips are cracking late in the season.

Only the premiers Melbourne City have beaten Central Coast in the last month and with the home ground and crowd advantage today, three points are there for the taking.

Adelaide were back to winning ways in Round 10, after stumbling after the World Cup break; despite some patchy form, they have shown enough to suggest that they too are serious finals contenders in 2022/23.

Always a tricky proposition at Coopers Stadium, Carl Veart’s aim will be to have his team be far more consistent on the road and able to snare points that have previously been allowed to slip away through underwhelming form away from home and some poor defensive moments late in matches.

Team news sees Central Coast without Garang Kuol for the first time, now that the young star has officially headed abroad; whilst Jason Cummings, Josh Nisbet, Beni Nkololo and Samuel Silvera will continue to provide the attacking potency that seems to come to life with vigour during the second halves of games. Cameron Windust is the only addition to what looks a settled squad.

The Reds have some injury concerns. Harry van der Saag remains out, along with defender Ben Warland and Bernardo. Javi Lopez does return for this clash in what is a crucial inclusion, and the presence of Hiroshi Ibusuki, Craig Goodwin and Zac Clough will give Reds fans hope that their team can pull off the win, despite the unavailable players.

Both teams score plenty of goals, but also concede too often for their respective managers’ liking. That suggests there will be goals on the Central Coast this afternoon.

Expect one or two early before things settle through the middle period and the Mariners to run the game out well, grabbing a winner in the final 20 minutes.
