The Matildas will be looking to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to the USA when the two sides meet again in Newcastle. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog from 8:05pm AEDT.
The Australian women will need to try and forget the horror start that saw them concede a goal inside the first 30 seconds of the game in Sydney on Saturday.
Coach Tony Gustavsson was certainly looking at the positives after the loss.
“I said we are going to treat this (these two games) as a World Cup final.” he said.
“It’s a very important reminder that the World Cup final is going to be won and lost inside 18 yards – the penalty areas.
“If you look at all the stats. We had 60 per cent of possession vs 40. 505 passes vs 336. 71 final third entries vs 47. 37 box entries vs 24. All those things we win the stats but then if you look at the actual finishing they win the finishing game by 14-11 and the scoreline of 3-0.”
As Gustavsson alluded to, it’s all about finishing the chances off and making the most of the possession. If the Matildas can do that and tighten up their defence when the USA do get counter-attacking opportunities than the scoreline should be much more in Australia’s favour.
The battle now is to overcome the psychological demons after another loss to the USA.

FULL-TIME Thanks for joining me on the blog for coverage of tonight's clash. Not the performance we wanted, that's for sure, but we'll take a 1-1 draw on the back of that patchy display. Don't forget to check back on The Roar tomorrow for all the wash-up from tonight's friendly.

They have so much more in the way of resources than Australia.

Hard to imagine she could make much of an impact with only five minutes on the pitch!

FULL-TIME 1-1 The Americans may have dominated on the night, but the Matildas showed some grit to fight back and pull a draw out of the fire. At least that's something. They certainly look like they can match it with the best teams in the world going forward.

Great win of the ball in midfield by Clare Wheeler to set up the goal. Why so long to put her on?

FULL-TIME 1-1 Well. What do we make of that? The looks like one of the most undeserved 1-1 draws since the Socceroos drew with the Netherlands in Rotterdam before the 2006 World Cup. Plenty of headaches for Tony Gustavsson to sort out... not least his incessantly shaky defence.

Well done Matildas. You'd take that scoreline every day of the week.

90+2′ 1-1 GOAL! Only it’s not. The visitors hit back as Lindsey Horan volleys home but the goal is correctly ruled out by the offside flag.

89' 1-1 You can't say it was deserved, but the Aussies will take it.
