The Matildas take on the no.1 team in the world – The USA in a Saturday afternoon clash in Sydney. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog from 3pm AEDT.

The Australian women will be full of confidence after an impressive win and draw against Brazil last month.

But coach Tony Gustavsson knows that the USA are another step up and have proven to be a bogey team for the Matildas.

Australia has not beaten the USA in four years and will still have some mental scars from the heartbreaking loss to the side in the bronze-medal game at the Tokyo Olympics.

While Team USA is missing a few key players, they’re no.1 for a reason and Australia won’t be taking them lightly.

With heavy rain across much of New South Wales this week and more rain forecast it could be a heavy pitch for the players. It won’t dampen the spirits of the supporters though and expect plenty of colour in the stands.

https://brisbaneroar.com.au/ Youll find it there. If you download the app on your phone, you will see a Roar page amongst the other 11. Although the (Android) app is a total cluttered mess that I have submitted well other 30 feedback items about. It is all over the shop and not somewhere I would go to get quick info. Never mind then that it is propaganda presenting a false ALs reality and inferior to the articles that Stuart and Mike write that address the real issues facing Aus football with opportunities for fans to interact and give their opinions. While we all continue to engage predominantly with theroar and not Keep Up, that site in my mind can be considered a failure.

yes, of course you're right Jordan. Off topic a little, but I've been on the Keep Up website this morning, still no Brisbane Roar home page. Looks like Roar's getting the thin edge from APL, with the draw and now no website. We've been here before. This idea of centralised control only works if the guys in the centre works equally hard for everyone.

A-League? Isnt it A-Leagues, or A-League Men or A-League Women if separate? I notice all the P+ graphics and indeed the men's jerseys simply say Isuzu Ute A-League so it would appear that that progressive approach APL announced was dropped in record time. Man yelling at clouds stuff but attention to detail matters (from APL/P+, not you personally LH).

Unfortunate scoreline but it's all about the experience. So much young talent in our A League.

Only got to watch the last 25mins but so good to see Rose Lavelle play. What a class act. Also Mary Fowler looking stronger every time and Ellie Carpenter taking them on. Great stuff. I guess if it was us getting the penalty we would say it was there. The USA team looked stronger than I thought they'de be.

Casey Murphy was excellent today. A stand-out contender for player of the match.

FULL-TIME 0-3 Thanks for joining me on the blog for today's clash. No post-game coverage from Channel Ten as the match finished right on 5pm. It would have been interesting to hear from Tony Gustavsson.

FULL-TIME 0-3 One big positive was the record crowd that turned out on an ordinary afternoon in Western Sydney. Football Australia will no doubt hope for a similarly impressive turn-out for game two in Newcastle on Tuesday night.

Pity we didn't convert our good effort in front of goals today. Both goalies had a busy day, and the US goalie was very good. Great attacking by both teams, the US really capitalising at the start of the halves. Hopefully the Matildas can build on this experience and close the gap for the Tuesday rematch. Well done Matildas

FULL-TIME 0-3 A young and inexperienced Aussie defence will surely be better for the run-out, but they learned today that defensive errors are punished severely at this level. On the plus side for Tony Gustavsson, his side created plenty of chances. He might be concerned about the lack of cutting edge up front, though.

FULL-TIME 0-3 It’s all over in Homebush, with the United States running out 3-0 winners. That was a strange result for the Matildas. They largely outplayed the visitors but three moments of real defensive naivety cost them dearly.

90+4' 0-3 Aussie substitute Kyra Cooney-Cross gets a skidding shot away but Casey Murphy deals with it comfortably just before the full-time whistle blows.

90+2' Teagan Micah got away with one there. She flapped at a looping cross but the Aussie defence managed to clear the danger.

90' 0-3 There'll be four minutes of stoppage time in this one. You'd almost think the Matildas would rather the full-time whistle blowed.

88' 0-3 Rose Lavelle, Andi Sullivan and Lynn Williams were replaced a couple of minutes ago by Kristie Mewis, Ashley Sanchez and Becky Sauerbrunn. The latter is collecting her 198th cap!

85' 0-3 Former Matildas and USA coach Tom Sermanni, who is on sideline commentary duties for Channel Ten, says the Aussies shouldn't be too concerned by the result. They've created plenty of chances in this clash but have been duly punished for a few defensive lapses.

84' 0-3 Lindsey Horan is toying with the Aussies now. She just burst through on goal and tried to cut the ball back, but when the rebound fell her way, she dragged her shot wide of the near post.

81' 0-3 Now it's Australia's turn to ring in the changes. Angela Beard, Remy Siemsen and Clare Wheeler are all on, with Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord and Mary Fowler taking their leave.

80' 0-3 The Americans have made a couple of substitutions over the past few minutes. Morgan Weaver and Bethany Balcer are on, with Margaret Purce and early goal-scorer Ashley Hatch are the players to make way.
