Match preview:

Perth Glory welcome Central Coast Mariners to HBF Park on Sunday afternoon in Round 4 of the 2019-20 A-League season. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 6pm (AEDT).

With all the talk surrounding a European super Swede this week it was a homegrown prize-winner that earned Perth Glory their first victory of the season last Sunday.

Chris Ikonomidis scored Glory’s winner away at Wellington Phoenix to kick-start the defending Premiers’ campaign.

Having also netted in Perth’s opening game against Brisbane Roar, the Harry Kewell Medal winner has become a real asset in Tony Popovic’s side.

Alongside new signing Bruno Fornaroli and Diego Castro, Ikonomidis completes a well balanced attacking threat of strength, trickery and speed for Glory.

Following the F3 Derby draw with the Jets two weeks ago the Central Coast Mariners had a bye last week and arrive in the West looking for their first win of the new season.

Head Coach Alen Stajcic has been trying to set the Mariners’ ship on a steady course since replacing Mike Mulvey in March.

After a difficult few years for the club, the former Matilda’s coach is keen to instill a mental toughness this season – an attribute he feels will help the club become successful again.

Head-to-head
Glory have beaten the Mariners in seven of the last eight encounters and are firm favourites to secure their first home win of the season.

Team news
In terms of team news, Glory’s Nick D’Agostino and Jake Brimmer could both feature after passing fitness tests, but Kristian Popovic is away on international duty with the Young Socceroos.

The visitors have a fully fit squad after Dylan Fox and Jordan Murray both recovered from minor injuries against Wellington.

Prediction
The Mariners are usually good for a goal against Perth and I do see them scoring. Glory conceded a stoppage-time equaliser their season opener against the Roar in a game they should have seen out.

I can’t see them allowing that to happen in consecutive home games.

The irony of Popovic complaining about CCM player not getting a second yellow card. When he was the coach at WSW, fouls like that by WSW players and no yellow cards was a weekly occurrence, Guess it is no fun when you're on the wrong end of those decisions.

A win away in Perth is something to make a season from.

90+5' Tongyik takes the ball on a run up the pitch and relieves the pressure on the Mariners defence. That should do it.

90+2' Ruon Tongyik deals with another cross from Glory. That was a strong clearing header and they'll need a few more of those in these final minutes. It's been a really impressive defensive effort from Stajcic's side. GLORY 1 – 2 CCM

Mariners, please don’t spend another 5 minutes “soaking up pressure”

89' Since the beginning of 2018, Glory are undefeated in regular time in the Hyundai A-League when playing on a Sunday. Time is running out for them to keep hold of that pointless piece of trivia. Final minute of the 90. GLORY 1 – 2 CCM

86' Glory are seeing plenty of the ball but are struggling to create any golden chances. CCM happy to sit in and soak this up for the final five minutes or so. GLORY 1 – 2 CCM

83' Glory's Bruno Fornaroli needs just one goal to take his career Hyundai A-League tally to 50. Can he be the one to break the Mariners resolve? GLORY 1 – 2 CCM

80' As predicted, Matt Simon comes on for the Mariners replacing Tommy Oar. Dylan Fox is down for CCM and has been for some time. The home crowd don't like it.

78′ Head tennis in the Central Coast box leads to a clear chance for Joel Chianese. The substitute wasn’t expecting the ball to reach him and mistimed his header. It’s backs to the wall stuff now for CCM. GLORY 1 – 2 CCM

Mariners are entering the danger zone - will they conjure a loss at the 80+ minute mark, as they did last year on many occasions?

72' Perth are flooding the Mariners area with purple shirts as they continue to win a succession of free-kicks and corners. Still, Glory trail. GLORY 1 – 2 CCM

70' Alen Stajcic could turn to veteran striker Matt Simon to try and put this game out of Glory's reach. Simon has scored six career goals against Perth. Tommy Oar has ran his socks off up top for the visitors.
