Sydney FC host Newcastle Jets at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium in their second and first games back respectively after the A-League’s resumption. Kick-off is slated for 7:30pm (AEST) and you can join The Roar for live scores.

The motivation for Steve Corica’s side is clear: one point is all that’s necessary to secure their fourth Premiers Plate. Sydney picked up all three points last Friday with a 3-1 win over Wellington, but it was far from a polished performance. Tonight, they will look to make another stride in their quest for a fifth championship title.

Sydney will be boosted by the inclusion of talisman attacking midfielder Alex Baumjohann in the starting line-up. Baumjohann came off the bench against Wellington as part of a plan to ease him back into full action.

“Everything is perfect [now], I think it was just not to take a risk. I am happy and I am ready to go,” Baumjohann said.

For Carl Robinson and the Jets, they will be looking for a quick start to their push for a top-six spot. Robinson and Corica are no strangers, having played together at Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Corica is wary of what the Newcastle side will bring to the contest.

“We had a great time together at Wolves, we were quite close together back then and he’s come out here now which is great for his coaching career,” the Sydney boss said of his former teammate.

In team news for the Hunter side, Welsh central midfielder Joe Ledley is available for selection following his mandatory two-week hotel quarantine. New academy signing Lucas Mauragis will also be available.

Two Jets are right on the cusp of milestones – if they see action in tonight’s clash, Roy O’Donovan will play his 100th A-League match and Dimi Petratos will hit 200 matches.

Prediction
Robinson will have the Jets well prepared and raring to go in this one, but it’s hard to imagine anything but a Sydney win. Expect another sausage roll from Adam le Fondre in a comfortable 3-1 Sydney victory.

I believe they are, but you never know with finals football. Sydney were odds on for the '18 championship but anything can happen in extra time or the shootout.

It's pretty shameful the way Fox's relationship with football is ending. It's like they're staying together for the kids but the relationship is toxic.

Newcastle were great to watch. Carl Robinson making a real difference, would love to understand the secret sauce that he is bringing to the Jets. Foxtel managed a low rent presentation of the game, looked like 2 cameras only nothing behind the goals. Doing the game a terminal disservice.

Too casual, SFC assumed that the Jets would just roll over for them and they'd lift the title. Second half was poor, movement of the ball was slow and too many times players opted for the pass backwards then opening up and driving forward.

Good wake up call for Syd FC, after Ryan Grant left the field, the play was scrappy till the end Van Der Saag and Paulo Retre were hopeless in the match!!!!!! don't understand why Retre plays full 90 mins!!!!!!!!!!!he in my squad will not even sit on the bench!!!!!

Ooops... little slip up from the Sky Blues. Didn't see the game, but surely they are still the favourites for this season, right?

Good result for the Jets, and probably a good result for the whole comp.

Holy heck, my favourite kung fu exponent, Roy O’Donovan hits the woodwork. Jets should be level, they deserve it.

Smurfs might have the lead but Jets definitely have had some decent chances. All to play for in the second stanza.
