After Day 16 of the French Open was washed out, Madison Keys and Ashleigh Barty will take to Suzanne-Lenglen court on tonight. Join The Roar for live coverage of the quarter-final, with live scores and a blog of the match starting at 8:00pm (AEST).

Keys and Barty were scheduled to play yesterday, however, play was abandoned at 12:30am AEST due to persistent rain.

The first cancelled day since 2016 has caused havoc with programming, this top-side of the Women’s draw will now require play on three consecutive days.

The winner of this clash will line-up in the semi-final on Friday against either Simona Halep or Amanda Anisimova, with one progressing to the final on Saturday.

Conditions are expected to be much better on Thursday, though the schedule has been brought forward to a 12-noon (local) start time to allow for the games to be completed.

Let’s take a look at the quarter-finalists taking to Court Suzanne-Lenglen tonight.

American Madison Keys is ranked number 14 in the world and has had a solid run to the quarter-finals.

Challenged by Australian Priscilla Hon in the second round and Anna Blinkova in the third, Keys is fit and has found some form on clay this year.

The 24-year-old right-hander has won four titles and was a semi-finalist at last year’s French Open. She will be looking to match that result with a win against Barty.

Eighth seed Ashleigh Barty is in brilliant form and is making a play for a top-five ranking with her performance at this tournament.

The Australian 23-year-old won her first three singles matches in straight sets, before taking on Sofia Kenin in the fourth round.

Challenged by the American in the second set, Barty went on to win the final set 6-0 and has progressed through with her best-ever French Open performance.

Keys and Barty met recently in the USA vs Australia Fed Cup World Group round one tie, in Asheville, North Carolina.

Barty won her rubber against Keys 6-4, 6-1.

The pair have met at the French Open before, in round one 2017, and it was Keys who advanced on that occasion.

Prediction
Barty is one of the most frustrating players to face on tour at present, she possesses all the weapons required to win a grand slam title and has a calm presence on court.

While Keys will push the Australian, it will be Barty’s persistence that helps her to victory.

Barty in three sets.

Ashleigh Barty has made her first Grand Slam semi-final with a 6-3 7-5 victory over Madison Keys on Thursday at the French Open. After rain delays on Wednesday and an eventual wash out, the match was scheduled to open day 17 on Court Suzanne-Lenglen and it was a swift opening to the schedule, over in one hour and nine minutes. It was a tight opening few games, both players continuing their good form that has been on display so far in the Slam. Where Barty was working quickly through her service games, she was also starting to make inroads on Keys’. At 4-3, Barty got one opportunity and she took it, breaking Madison Keys and setting herself up to serve for the first set. She held her nerve in that game and secured the early advantage. Keys came out with intent to take the game on early in the second set, she had to after all. Madison Keys increased the aggression through her shots and remained on the baseline, where she hit some lovely winners. Barty got her opportunity though, breaking at 3-3 and then consolidated by holding her own service game. Keys held and forced Barty to serve it out at 5-4, but Barty couldn’t hold her nerve and the set was back on-serve at 5-all. A fight from Keys was not completed, Barty broke with help from a double-fault and got a second opportunity to serve for the match. Ash Barty had no problems with serving it out on the second attempt, reaching her first Grand Slam semi-final at the 2019 French Open. Shocked that her best result at a Grand Slam has come on clay, Barty is enjoying her tennis and “learning everyday”. Her mental game is as strong as they come and the versatility in her game is equally impressive. For now though, an opportunity to make her first Grand Slam singles final is here and the ‘Barty Party’ will roll into Day 18 at the French Open. Next up, Barty faces 17-year-old American Amanda Anisimova, who beat Simona Halep [3] in the quarter-finals. This will be Barty’s fifth American opponent in this tournament. Final Score Keys 3 | 5 Barty 6 | 7

Nice call by me. Keys just can't wait. Always inconsistent and Barty has the all-court game to stay in the point and force the error. Great call Sarah. Thank you.

Very close game and looking ahead, another very exciting one coming up next… her opponent will be 17-year-old Amanda Anisimova, who just beat Simona Halep in straight-sets 6-2 6-4.

Barty, surprised to reach her first semi-final on clay. Not her favourite surface for sure. Tough match up today, took her one chance in the first set and then finished it in the second. Keys 3 | 5 Barty 6 | 7
