Who will replace Kreuzer at Carlton?

By Wilson / Roar Guru

With word going around that Matthew Kreuzer is looking for a new home, should Carlton trade to get themselves a replacement ruckman? Or are they happy with what they have?

If they trade then they could go after Stefan Martin. Martin would be the primary choice, as he wants to come home to Victoria.

Martin, so far this year, has the fifth highest hit-outs for the season. His ability to get the ball all around the ground with an average of 21.6 disposals per game would be an advantage. He would be a good fit for the Blues, but what would they be willing to trade for him?

One choice would be Tom Bell, who has been rumoured to want a return to Queensland. But Brisbane would still have to give up a draft pick or two in my opinion, probably as high as a second-round pick.

Carlton need to go hard to get themselves a good ruckman and Martin is perfect. Their only other choice is to try free agency and pick up a quality player like Matthew Leuenberger or Mark Jamar.

Jamar is getting to the end his career, but his experience would be good for the Blues. Leuenberger has a reputation of being injury prone but has had a good season this year, when he was fit.

Carlton are firmly in a rebuilding phase and getting a top ruckman must be a priority for the club.

What is first and foremost is Geelong's Josh Walker and their 1st round pick for Henderson. Remember Geelong is obviously chasing the guy. He obviously knows they want him or he would never have opted out. Play hardball with Geelong or throw him to the open draft. No compromises anymore with recalcitrant players. Would make me laugh if he goes back to the Lions. Geelong and Henderson want this, make them earn it the smug pricks. Kruezer stays if Carlton gets stooged on a priority, pure and simple as that. Just match whatever these parasite clubs are trying to pay. We have the cash. Just use Hawthorns and Collingwoods dodgy accountant systems to hide the true value. Tom Bell for Aish and chances are Aish is a dud, so Lions will get the better of that. It's a long shot. Forget Carlisle, he has mental issues and could be on a 2 year holiday soon.

Evrery respected commentator Don - just read any article written about a possible trade of Henderson and Yarran and you will see the expected trade value being late first round early second. And did you see the blues have plied for a priority pick, they could be up to 4 first top 25 picks even before they get to trading.

"Every..."? Who? Carlisle is worth about 35 pick...just not a club man. Henderson is a very sporadic performer...worth about 45...maybe 40. Buyer beware. So much better available in the market place.

Jack did you see his piece on the blues website about "reconnecting" with Morningside - he sounded pretty attached to Brisbane

Don - I told you you were going to say that but every respected commentator on the game has both those players inside the top 25 with Yarran garnering a slightly higher pick the Henderson. Throw in Essendons assessment of Carlisles value (whose performances have him the equal of Henderson) and the fact multiple clubs are chasing both players and we can see your opinion I carries its usual weight, roughly equal to a feather.

It took Edgar a day and a half to think up that joke.

You could get rid of Kreuzer and bring in a dead tree and you would get the same result

Silly...the Blues already have the highest paid ruckman in the AFL, Warnock. They've been keeping him in cotton wool for when they make the 8.

In bells last interview he said he is excited for next year . I honestly don't think it's appropriate for the media to pull stories out of mid air. the media has been beating up the yarran story as well, sure he was not fantastic but he had his moments . In on game when the media smashed him I remenber Zachary too hey making as many mistakes and less poessions. Perhaps the Aussie football media has some ingrained racism

It's interesting with Harley. It seems he had an argument with a bouncer...about a smoking bouncer's cigarette...after his season had finished. Strike one was having a drink with his mates over dinner but that was a strike because Rocket decided he didn't like that so he made a silly rule unrelated to footy performance. The biggest unfairness is that whatever he did this year, the media would flash a photo from 2013 as if that was his behaviour now. This boy is a safe recruit and better value than either of those proposed #1 draft picks.

Yeah well you hear these rumours and generally treat them with a grain of salt. It was said that he already had a physical with the Bulldogs though.

That is exactly why they won't get rid of Kreuzer. Good to see you understand what is happening.

I think you are wrong there Don Freo. Both will be inside the 25, possibly even first round picks. I would bet there is a three way deal that gets Carlisle (or a similar player) to the Blues for one of them. We shall soon see......

No and No. Warnock won't bring too high a deal, maybe a third round pick at best.

Kreuzer is not looking for a trade and will stay at Carlton. It is the media, once again who have twisted a story out of all proportions and made something out of nothing. The Blues need a good back up for Kreuzer but he is going nowhere. The Bell for Aish story is another matter. Rumour has Aish going to Collingwood but I would bet the Blues will go hard for him.

Dalgety those rumours have no foundation. Kreuzer has not been put through any fitness tests let alone failed any. I am sure that any interested clubs will conduct tests but at this stage none have occurred. This was confirmed today.

Henderson and Yarran won't draw anything inside 25.

It's also pending Kreuzer passing the physicals at other clubs. There's been some nasty rumours going around that he may've not been that successful so far.
