Mitchell Pearce speaks for first time following Australia Day scandal

By The Roar / Editor

Mitchell Pearce has spoken to the media for the first time following the release of a video recording that featured him simulating a sex act with a dog on Australia Day.

In a very brief statement, a visibly emotional Pearce apologised for the incident and said with the help of the Sydney Roosters he would be working to address his issues with alcohol.

“I’d like to apologise to everyone for my actions under the last couple of days,” Mitchell said. “My behaviour was unacceptable.

“I have a problem with alcohol. It’s not an excuse but I realise I need help.

“Together with the club I’m working on a solution for me to address these issues.”

i dont reckon peeing on someones couch and pretending to root someones dog would be happening in 1 in 10 oz day parties.

Absolutely mate. Happens to all of us. Eventually we have to grow up and take responsibility for our own actions.

There seems to be a concerted and coordinated effort to lay the blame at the feet of the "whistle blower". No I have no idea of the whistle blowers motives, as I suspect very few do, and even if his or her intentions are scurrilous it doesn't change any of the facts. Something to consider, even if you are invited to a private residence, and if that invite is to a gathering of persons, then I think you would struggle to argue that you have an expectation of privacy - thus the filming, with or without permission is not illegal nor any invasion of your privacy. There is also a concept that is abundantly clear, especially in small communities, that Pacific and Caribbean islands have referred to as the "Coconut Telegraph" or "Bush Telegraph". The basic tenant is nothing is secret and the story will get out. It has been said of the Coconut Telegraph that "if you don't want it printed, don't do it".

Thanks for highlighting that comment, may have missed it. Agree that it looks like it's the tip of the iceberg

Drink real ale and you can still enjoy yourself and not get into fights or situations.

Warwick and Jack play for Latrobe Cricket Club 2nd grade; Jack Merrilees is accused of murdering Eddie Comet; and Jack Bannister, a former BBC cricket commentator has carked it. Is there some sort of TAFE course one may attend to understand what that linked page of weird hieroglyphics is all about? Or do you have to be 12 years old? It seems someone named Jack Warwick has been discovered by the kiddies, found guilty of hurting poor Our Toddie Pearce and sentenced to publication of his photo, his mobile number, his LinkedIn résumé and where he works. Piecing it together with the other Canberra Times link below Jack went to a party in a taxi with Our Toddie where Jack took a video and then went all capitalist.

"It was suggested that an approach would be made to the Daily Mail to buy the footage and within a day digital media exchange company Diimex was offering the video to media outlets."
Two versions say the video was sold by Jack for $60,000 (or $5,000) to the middleman who sold it to a newspaper for $? (or $75,000). Jack is either very crafty or very dim. It sure is complicated being young these days.

i would suggest this post be deleted for defamation reasons What the said | January 29th 2016 @ 2:40pm | Report comment Heard it all before Mitchell!! This incident is appalling and should well and truely be his last chance but we all know it won’t be thanks to his connections which have also keep him in the Nsw team much longer than he should have been. Anyway I have had the miss fortune of having seen an intoxicated, rude Mitchell one Saturday morning a few years back while walking with my son at Coogee beach. Needless to say I walked away from supporting the roosters and donated my jumpers to charity. I can only imagine the things kept behind closed doors that we haven’t witnessed. I hope he gets the help he needs but the game is bigger than Mitchell and his backers, time to man up.

Your kidding yourself mate, are you suggesting he himself, nor anyone else in that room knew they were being recorded? Rubbish mate. How anyone didn't know they were being filmed or recorded is completely ludicrous, the camera is clearly following him around the room, from one side of it to the other, and you expect people to believe that no one person in that room knew? Hogwash.
