The Roar's AFL MVP: Round 13 votes, leaderboard

By Josh / Expert

Hello Roarers, and welcome to this week’s update for The Roar’s AFL MVP! It may have been a smaller round than normal but it was still action-packed – have a look below at who our blogging team rated as the best of the best this week.

The votes

North Melbourne Kangaroos 84 defeated by Hawthorn Hawks 93
Blogged by Stirling Coates

3: Jordan Lewis – Absolutely sensational work from the stand-in skipper. Racked up a game-high 31 disposals, 11 clearances, five inside 50s and a crucial late goal.

2: James Sicily – A five-goal haul, to go along with a game-high three contested marks and 13 touches at 85 per cent efficiency. A dominant display from the young forward.

1: Robbie Tarrant – Defenders don’t often get enough credit, but Tarrant was superb all evening. 26 disposals, seven rebound 50s, six marks and ten one-percenters.

Brisbane Lions 82 defeated by West Coast Eagles 141
Blogged by Shannon Russell

3: Mitch Robinson – 39 touches, ten clearances and a goal was a huge performance from Robinson, continuing the good form he’s shown since moving to Brisbane eighteen months ago.

2: Mark LeCras – LeCras like the Eagles has been criticised a bit this year for playing poorly away from home, but he answered those critics pretty well with a four-goal haul.

1: Josh J Kennedy – A bag of five goals was another vintage performance from the reigning Coleman medallist.

Fremantle Dockers 86 defeated Port Adelaide Power 69
Blogged by the all rounder

3: Michael Barlow – 43 touches and two crucial goals when the game was on the line in the 3rd quarter. Absolutely outstanding.

2: Lachie Neale – 38 touches is standard fare for Neale these days. While his disposal wasn’t always effective, he won a truckload of contested footy.

1: Matthew Pavlich – Wound back the clock with seven marks and four goals. Could have easily kicked six.

Western Bulldogs 43 defeated by Geelong Cats 100
Blogged by Lou Lando

3: Patrick Dangerfield – 85 possessions in last two weeks. Brilliant again tonight with 37 disposals, 19 contested, nine clearances.

2: Joel Selwood – Along with Dangerfield, played a huge part in setting this win up with a great first half.

1: Corey Enright – 93 per cent disposal efficiency and just cleaned up in the back half, rarely made a mistake.

Sydney Swans 86 defeated Melbourne Demons 31
Blogged by Sam Walker

3: Jarrad McVeigh – 25 touches, eight rebound 50s, nine tackles and a goal assist – the Sydney co-captain was in some of his best form.

2: Dean Towers – A breakout game from this inexperienced Swan, he had 27 touches, kicked two goals and gave two goal assists.

1: Lance Franklin – The wet conditions didn’t bother Buddy who booted four goals and also did the tough stuff with seven tackles.

Essendon Bombers 90 defeated by GWS Giants 117
Blogged by Widget

3: Toby Greene – Growing in stature every week, Toby but the Dons to the sword with four goals including a few late ones to put the result beyond doubt. 22 touches and seven inside 50s too.

2: Stephen Coniglio – 29 touches, eight clearances, seven inside 50s, three goal assists and a goal of his own – prolific.

1: David Zaharakis – Continued his good form this year with 25 touches, six clearances and a goal assist.

He has had at least 3 tagging games where he was best or second best and was best last 2 weeks for GWS.

Buddy didn't deserve votes for the Swans game, and I think to say so would be ignoring the 17 tackles laid by Luke Parker, or how Grundy gave Jesse Hogan literally no space, or the fact that four goals seems like a lot in a wet weather game but that he only accounted for six scoring shots out of the 26 we had for the game. Hell, I'm hard on Josh Kennedy, but even he was more crucial in that game yesterday.

It was Ubet. And they just say whatever will give them the best result so I wouldn't take that much notice

ward and shiel probably have more impact on games than coniglio. his freo game was his best, but others not quite at that standard

I agree 100%, I just thought it was interesting that at least one of the betting agencies (I don't recall which one, I usually tune out when they come on the radio) said their internal count had Selwood leading Danger at this point. Selwood is a good poller of votes and will have gotten most of the 2's behind Danger and may have polled ahead of Danger during Paddy's quieter patch. Will be interesting to see how many votes they take off each other. http://www.afl.com.au/brownlow-medal/predictor has Danger on 18 and Selwood on 14.

The thing about Danger's form this year is he's so good that he will still attract votes even in his quieter weeks. No one else is playing even close to the level he is this year in my opinion (bar Lance Franklin who as a key forward doesn't get much recognition in these things), and time is running out for them to catch up.

Coniglio anyone? He'd be well ahead in GWS B&F and they are winning lots. He'd have a stack of 3 and 2 votes

There's at least one betting agency that has Selwood ahead of Dangerfield in their in-house counting. I'd agree with you though, if the count was right now, I'd be shocked if Danger didn't win, but in saying that, there's still plenty of time to go.
