Hello Roarers and welcome once again to The Roar‘s AFL MVP! Round 11 was a round that maybe didn’t defy too many of our expectations, but certainly provided some good watching, and most interestingly, a change at the top of the leaderboard.

See below who our team of live bloggers ranked the best of the best this week.

The votes

North Melbourne Kangaroos 124 defeated Richmond Tigers 54
Blogged by Stirling Coates

3: Daniel Wells – This man is the reason North are that extra bit better this year. 30 touches, seven tackles, five clearances and three goals. Gives North some class on the outside which they’ve lacked over the last few years.

2: Andrew Swallow – His 28 touches, 11 tackles and ten clearances look good, but when you consider North lost the hit-out count 62-28, they look great.

1: Nick Dal Santo – Superb form off half-back, collecting 33 touches at 82 per cent effectiveness, as well as eight tackles and a goal.

3: Bernie Vince – Any player that gets 36 disposals, 11 clearances and nine inside 50s gets three votes from me. Simple as that.

2: Isaac Smith – Played direct all day, and ended up with 29 disposals at 69 per cent efficiency in tough conditions. Also had nine inside 50s and seven marks.

1: Dom Tyson – 32 disposals at 81 per cent efficiency in wet conditions is hard to do. Also added nine clearances and six tackles to his performance.

Carlton Blues 102 defeated Brisbane Lions 64

3: Tom Rockliff – Brisbane had a lot of passengers, but Rockliff pushed the bus up the hill all day. 48 disposals, 13 clearances, nine tackles and a goal. Clearly the best on the ground.

2: Ed Curnow – Stood up with Bryce Gibbs picking up the tag. 28 touches, 12 tackles and a highlight-reel goal in the fourth quarter.

1: Jacob Weitering – It was billed as Schache vs Weitering I, and the full back took the points. 24 touches, 14 marks and five rebound 50s, while Schache had just the nine disposals and a very late goal from a 50-metre penalty.

Geelong Cats 98 defeated GWS Giants 88

3: Joel Selwood – Just about earned the three points on his last quarter alone, but 29 disposals and eight clearances is a solid game in anyone’s book. Also kicked a goal to round off his performance nicely.

2: Zac Smith – 10 clearances for the big man, but also had 31 hitouts, and beat the rarely-beaten Shane Mumford.

1: Callan Ward – Was GWS’ best in my book. Only had the ball 22 times, but nine clearances and eight tackles show his effort was top-class. Also kicked a goal and took six marks in an impressive performance.

Gold Coast Suns 41 defeated by Sydney Swans 79

3: Tom Mitchell – Fought a gripping duel with Gary Ablett and ended up taking the points. 33 disposals, at 73 per cent effectiveness in the wet, 14 tackles, six clearances and a goal. On a tear right now.

2: Josh P Kennedy – Excelled in the poor conditions, racking up 33 disposals, ten tackles, eight clearances and five inside 50s.

1: Kurt Tippett – Continued his career-best form with a dominant night in the ruck. A whopping 50 hit-outs, accompanied by 16 touches, half of which were contested.

Fremantle Dockers 126 defeated Essendon Bombers 47
Blogged by Lou Lando

3: Lachie Neale – 42 touches, 13 contested, seven clearances and set the scene from the start, having a big hand in opening onslaught.

2: David Mundy – Could have easily given him 3 votes, used the ball well and had seven inside 50s.

1: Michael Barlow – could hve given this to a handful of players, but not only did Barlow get the ball but he kept David Zaharakis quiet all night.

Collingwood Magpies 58 defeated by Port Adelaide Power 127

3: Jarman Impey – Impey provided a brilliant display today with the 690 meters gained and was a key part of the run and carry off half back for the Power. Imply racked up 18 kicks, 4 handballs, 8 marks and 1 goal. He had 10 score involvements, moving the ball forward with precision passing. A standout performance.

2: Aaron Young – The best game I have seen Aaron Young play. Managed to book 4 goals, and outran the Collingwood defenders at every contest. Young managed to find plenty of the footy with 24 disposals and 14 kicks.

1: Robbie Gray – Gray played another suburb game today, with 27 possessions, 15 of them were contested, five clearances and nine score involvements. Gray was all over the ground assisting Port with a dominating victory.

Western Bulldogs 83 defeated West Coast Eagles 75

3: Matthew Boyd – With Easton Wood out, he stepped up in a big way, directing traffic across half back. His composure in the last five minutes once the Eagles had pulled within a kick was telling. He finished with 34 possessions.

2: Lachie Hunter – The busiest player on the ground with 38 touches, he worked hard to win the ball and drive the Dogs forward.

1: Marcus Bontempelli – 30 possessions, 21 of them contested, 6 clearances and nine tackles. He wasn’t quite the outside presence he often is, but he did all the tough things today.

3: Sam Jacobs – Beat Tom Hickey in the ruck with 27 hitouts to 19 and contributed excellently around the ground with 24 disposals, seven inside 50s and a goal.

2: Josh Jenkins – An easy man to give votes to, kicked a bag of seven goals to put his name at fourth in the Coleman Medal race.

1: Jake Lever – The best game to date of his young career, 30 disposals and 13 marks as part of a dominant defensive unit.
