BREAKING: Jarryd Hayne to sign with Titans

By News / Wire

Jarryd Hayne will reportedly sign a two-year NRL deal with the Gold Coast.

The Titans announced early Wednesday morning they would make a major club announcement at 10.30am, and there is the possibility Hayne could play as soon as this weekend given he has not been registered with another club this season. The Roar understands the Titans are bullish about the chances of getting their new recruit to play this year.

Hayne has not played in the NRL since he left Parramatta to try his hand at the NFL at the end of 2014.

However he is set to return with league’s youngest club, according to the Nine Network.

“It’s confirmed, Jarryd Hayne will be running out in a Titans jersey next year,” Titans ambassador Gorden Tallis told Triple M.

The former Brisbane and Queensland enforcer labelled the signing the biggest since Wally Lewis joined the doomed Seagulls franchise in 1991.

“We missed out on (Daly) Cherry Evans and we got someone like Ash Taylor and Kane Elgey and Tyrone Robert is doing a fantastic job,” Tallis said.

“Jarryd Hayne’s that x-factor that gets the job done for you.”

The reports come after Fairfax Media suggested the Titans were willing to offer the former representative star a deal worth $1.2 million a season with third-party components included.

That offer would trump one Parramatta were believed to have been preparing, which weighed in at $800,000 a season over three years.

The signing would be a major coup for the Gold Coast, who still have significant salary cap space left after missing out last year on luring halfback Cherry-Evans when he walked out on a lucrative deal.

Any plans for Hayne to play this season may require the clearance of the NRL, following his time at Parramatta during the club’s salary cap scandal.

The club will announce the signing at a press conference at 10:30am AEST this morning.

SBW also won a man of the match award for the All Blacks after 2 years with the Roosters and without having played a single game of union in the meantime...

It's a shocker Kaks... I really feel for Parra fans through all this. If it's any consolation (it's almost certainly not at the moment) I think in the long run missing out on Hayne will be good for the Eels...

Yeah - Cullen's only played a couple of games but I really rate him. His first two games were in the halves and he was so composed and mature. I'm pretty sure he kicked a 40/20 in one and then a match winning field goal in the other. Steered the team around really well.

Great news for thecode wars front line. Hopefully the NRL will push his contract through in time for sundays game V warriors. Full house is already being predicted, Hayne should wrap it up. RL was never on its knees on the gold coast, the Titans were. Hayne's signing will restore confidence and stability in the club . Healthy crowds and good spondorship will become the norm now. Eaglejack maybe now we will statr to see Titans stickers on cars now.?

Well said by you. Its certainly a better way of responding than "wait and see what reaction he gets at Pirtek"

I've never rated Roberts but he's been very good this year so I didn't want to rule him out completely. Cullen off the bench will be huge. So quick out of dummy half.

I think Roberts will be the one to miss out longer term but he is getting the job done for them this season - I've never seen him play so consistently. Halves will be a good problem for them. Elgey, Taylor and Cullen are all guns. Nate Myles also gone from last year. I reckon they'll still have a fair bit of coin up their sleeve.

The biggest problem initially TWAS was getting many on them Coast offside with the centre of excellence debacle. Getting a queue of tradespeople offside is hardly good PR. The stench from that period appears to be waning, and their recent infield performances coupled with an astute Independent administration led by the Chairlady.has done wonders for the club.Throw in two people with the smarts CEO Annesley and Coach Henry ,and one understands where they are now. Getting Hayne is a marketing dream for the club, bums on seats and offend promos. He is playing rugby league the game he is best suited and not another code.We should be more than happy ,he's back.

Well said. As a lifelong (and tortured) Parra fan it will be jarring to see Hayne in another team's colours but Parra need to build for the future. Committing so much salary cap to one player puts them in lmbo--not good enough to compete, not bad enough to re-build and re-tool. We have made some good moves (like the Gutherson signing) and need to build through youth and a sprinkling of experience. Like it or not, Hayne is the past (and is not a young man anymore): he is better off at a contending club and Parra is better off spreading the $800, 000 over 2-3 promising youngsters. Good luck Jarryd--after years of persisting and shining in less-than-ideal circumstances you deserve our respect and dare I say it your position as one of Parra's all-time greats. Now to the future for the Eels.

No contract was offered from the Eels so not possible for him to sign for them. Hayne said that in his interview when signing announced

Such a narrow view. What makes you say he is a "Larger" body? Ive seen him training with the Fiji side and he was very trim and fit and certainly not larger than when he last played NRL. All those lovely dribbly tactix you suggest are things he has excelled at overcoming in the past and I'd love to see where these tactix have been proven to work against former NFL or Union 7s players. Hayne has played league since he was a tot and it will come back to him very quickly

Coming from a Parramatta fan, I can't help but feel indignant that he reneged on his word but it's hardly surprising. An extra 400K in the bank will do that. The only question is where the club goes from here. We've finally cleaned out the deadwood at management level so I can only hope that things begin to turn around. As for the Titans; I can see them being an enormous threat next year now. Given what they've managed to achieve this year alone (I have them as the dark horse to play in October) I can see them pushing for a top 4 spot in 2017. Can't wait for them to play against us though; should be a very interesting game...

League is a very simple game. SBW came back after 5 years and won his club a premiership in his first season

Hardly fair to say that the Eels are one of the least attractive places to play in; look at the Sharks a few years ago as they were embroiled in the ASADA scandal. Now they're on top of the table and widely tipped to win the big one this year. The Storm and the Bulldogs were caught out cheating the salary cap and both clubs won premierships 2 years after they received their punishments and sorted out their management issues. I have no doubt that the Eels will be back with a vengeance next year with or without Hayne. I just hope he realizes what the crowd reaction will be when he plays at Pirtek Stadium.

Its very difficult to play for a club when no contract was offered by Parramatta

Whilst I feel for the Eels fans they certainly cant blame Hayne. He stated very clearly in the press conference that NO offer was recieved from Parra and he even wondered if any offer could be tabled as no-one has any authority to do so.
