RESULTS: How you rated Cloke, Deledio, O'Meara and more

By Josh / Expert

The results are in! On Tuesday we asked you to rate the trade value of ten of the names that have been rumoured to be on the move this off-season.

We got an awesome response, with hundreds of Roarers voting for their views. Everything’s been tallied up, and now we have the final results – enjoy!

Travis Cloke
Fourth round pick or later (55+) – 39.6 per cent

When describing Cloke I said he wasn’t a fan favourite, and the poll results bore that out, with the majority of voters believing Cloke’s value is essentially just that of a token pick.

They might be proven right, too, with rumours that the Bulldogs will only trade Collingwood their fourth-round selection – currently pick 72 – to secure the big forward.

Brett Deledio
Early second round pick (19-27) – 34.6 per cent

It’s still a bit debatable whether or not Deledio is even on the market, but there does seem to be at least a grain of truth in the rumours that Geelong have made some overtures and that the Tigers would seriously consider it.

But would they accept an early second round pick? That’s what the majority of voters believe his worth to be, though it’s worth noting that a significant portion – 30.9 per cent – believe he’s worth a late first round pick (11-18) instead.

Pearce Hanley
Late first round pick (11-18) – 39.2 per cent

Hanley is looking more and more likely to move to the Gold Coast, and they’re reportedly willing to cough up a first round pick for the 28-year-old.

That’s about right, according to the Roarers, so long as it’s in the latter half of the first round. 31.6 per cent said an early second round pick (19-27) was closer to his real worth.

Hamish Hartlett
Late first round pick (11-18) – 41.6 per cent

Port want a high draft pick for Hamish Hartlett, but the Roarers aren’t convinced he’s worth it – and that seems to be the opinion of many AFL clubs too.

A pick in the teens seems about right in exchange for Hartlett. A further 32.7 per cent said he wasn’t even worth a first round, fitting more into the early second round (19-27) range.

Brad Hill
Early second round pick (19-27) – 44.7 per cent

No player garnered more widespread agreement on their value than Brad Hill, who the majority place in the first half of the second round.

That’s probably about right for a player who doesn’t seem likely to ever be much more than a B-grader, but still has plenty of footy ahead of them.

Jarryd Lyons
Late second round pick (28-36) – 38.9 per cent

Despite a breakout season the majority of Roarers aren’t keen to offer up anything more than a late second round pick for Jarryd Lyons.

That’s fair enough in my view – he’s been at the Crows for six seasons and only had one good one. You can’t trust that enough to pay big.

Caleb Marchbank
Late first round pick (11-18) – 39.1 per cent

Caleb Marchbank is a classic trade conundrum – what do you give up for a highly-talented youngster who has had a few injuries and only played a handful of games?

The Roar collective feel a late first round pick is fair – personally, I wouldn’t give more than an early second rounder. 24.2 per cent of voters felt the same.

Tom Mitchell
Top ten pick (6-10) – 42.2 per cent

Mitchell might be the most valuable player to move clubs this year – that’s what the Roarers seem to reckon anyway, as he gained the most consistent high-value votes of any player in the poll.

That’s a fair call given the bloke is only 23, can rack up the possession numbers, and knows how to kick goals on occasion (like his two in the grand final).

Jaeger O’Meara
Top ten pick (6-10) – 34.6 per cent

You all know the Jaeger dilemma – do you rate him on his two years of brilliant form, or his two years of absence due to a long-term knee injury?

The vast majority of Roarers agreed he’s worth a first round pick, but it’s where in the first round it falls that votes were split on.

The 6-10 range got the most votes, but 11-18 (28.5 per cent) and 1-5 (26.3 per cent) weren’t far behind.

Tom Rockliff
Late first round pick (11-18) – 36.7 per cent

Another polarising player, the majority believe Rockliff is worth a pick either in the 6-10 range or the 11-18, with small slices voting for the top 5 (10.7 per cent) and the early second round (14.5 per cent).

Personally, I’m a bit of a Rocky-lover, and I reckon a top ten pick would be a fair price to pay from a team that wants to win a flag in the next five years.

Anything in the teens would be an absolute bargain.

Well there you have it folks – what do you think of how the votes came out? Let us know your thoughts on these players and any others you’ve been thinking about in the comments below.

Reunited with Redden. Might rejuvenate Redden. They could organize for the Brown boys to get up to Qld as a trade.

Marchbank, O'Meara could be a little like Andrew Mackie (scenario wise, though Mackie wasn't a trade). Mackie had missed the entire season injured before he was drafted, but got picked up 7th because the Cats did the homework and saw the potential. Worked out ok for em.

Honestly Andy I would prefer to use it on a kid who has a bit more speed than Mitchell.

Sqmmy - he might not be a bad player but he isn't in their best 22 and isn't going to attract a big contract, he hasn't won any b&fs or any other awards - these are the type of thing that is used to calculate compensation. Waite at least had an offer on the table from the blues and North had to beat it. There is no way he gets a second round pick

Rockliff would be a great fit at West Coast - they really need another grunt midfielder to help out Priddis.

Macca, would you give up pick 5 for mitchell if possible or would you use it to pick a new kid?

@macca - there is also a big difference between a bloke who is younger and cannot force his way into a team that is playing finals as opposed to one who is in his 30's playing in one that is down the bottom of the ladder. Another reason he played fewer games this year was revealed as his last contract stipulated he would get an automatic 1 year contract extension if he played a certain number of games over the last 3 seasons - he apparently fell 2 short of that and there were definitely times this year he should have been in the team but was dropped. He is not a bad player

Well we will wait and see - but as noted, there are others in list management and the media that are pushing the likely late second round pick as the most likely scenario - he has interest from other clubs

Sorry sammy, but I think a second round pick for a bloke who has played 90 games in 10 years and is 28 years old, is completely fanciful. Douglass has played regularly this year and has played nearly 200 career games, so he would possibly attract some interest from clubs, but he's 29 years of age and no star. If he went as a free agent, I can't imagine he'd attract an above average salary. He might be worth a late 3rd round compensation pick at best, but I'd guess more a 4th round pick. It will be interesting to see what Daniel Wells gets North. He's 30 years old but reportedly been offered a 3 year contract at $600k per year, so he should probably command a second-round compo pick.

the reason Henderson would be worth a second round pick is that he is an unrestricted free agent and there are clubs currently speaking with him. Therefore the only consideration is salary as no trade is required and as I understand it, if he is paid well enough, it will cause him to fall into the late second round category. Most commentators are believing the crows will end up with a late second round pick for him - we will see

Rockliff...Mitchell... I don't think so. Easy second though.

If Terry Wallace said it, it must be wrong. The blues got absolutely nothing for Jarrad Waite who had played 180 games including 16 for the blues the year before he left (where he kicked 29 goals) - admittedly he was 31 at the time not 28 but if he was worth nothing there is no way Henderson is worth a second round pick.

Terry Wallace was on radio stating a second round pick would be what he will command as a compensation pick. I am one of those who actually think he should be in the team - he came in and played against West Coast in round 23 and was the crows best on the day - then dropped for the first final. What he offers is pace and speed - he can also kick the ball 60 metres. He is also tall. His biggest drawback is that he is perceived to not tackle hard enough. Funny that you mention Collingwood though as they have had a nibble at him before. As an aside, what do you see Richard Douglas' worth as a trade?

Henderson would be lucky to attract a 4th round compensation pick. He's 28 years old and will only be paid a low, rookie salary (if he's even picked-up). He's played 90 games in 10 seasons, including just 9 this year. Sounds like a perfect fit for Collingwood, the way they are trading this year. The real question, is why didn't Adelaide delist him ages ago?

I was thinking that the other Adelaide team - who are very likely to get a second round compensation pick for Ricky Henderson could look to make a play for another first round pick (possibly a late 1st round pick) by bundling the second round pick up with a player like Douglas or Lyons. That way, they may be in a position to trade a first round pick for a good midfielder or even bundle it up with another player to secure the extra midfielder they need. As Wallace said on trade radio, the crows are set down back and have the best forward line in the comp - it is midfield where they need the extra quality to help Sloane and the fast developing Matt Crouch. The alternative is that they just take the pick for Ricky Henderson and go to the draft with 1st, 2nd & 3rd round picks and get the best available -with Charlie Cameron to come into midfliedl and probably Cam Ellis Yolman..

Steve - I think pick 5 looks to be much more valuable than pick 6 this year - I have seen a number of phantom drafts that have that top 5 mixed up in various orders and there seems to be a bit of a gap between them and the 6th pick - if the Suns are willing to trade 6 or 8 for our future first rounder then I would be much happier to see that in the GWS trade you mentioned rather than 5. I think we would need much much more than Norths Pick 12 for Tuohy and pick 15 or 16 from GWS - with what North are offering Tuhoy pick 12 by itself would go close. To me almost the same thing as what you are suggesting could be achieved a lot simpler by just trading next years first round pick to GWS for the Marchbank package and Tuohy straight to North for 12 (we could swap the bulldogs third round pick for Norths 4th round if it gets it over the line) which would give us Marchbank (plus the steak knives) Hrovat for 41 and pick 5, 12 & 23 and we don't have to involve a third club.

Plus we have Murphy, Crameri, Adams, Wallis and possibly Suckling that need to be fitted back into our 22, forcing 4 - 5 more players into the VFL. No shortage of depth. I hate to say this, but I think it's a great time for Matty Boyd to retire and open-up opportunities for guys like Bailey Williams, Lukas Webb, Roarke Smith and Josh Prudden (if he recovers from his knee injury) in the backline.

Macca, I don't want us to give up pick 5, I just think we will. I expect a couple of GWS players and one of their later first rounders coming back. That's how I see it at the moment. I think we will put our 2017 first rounder on the table also and offer it up to GCS for pick 6 or 8 and one of their second rounders either this year or next year. I think we will package the GWS first rounder and Tuohy together and give it to North for their pick 11. We take 6 or 8, 11 and 23 to the draft as well as picking up Marchbank, another 1 or 2 GWS players, and Hrovat for pick 41. I see it panning out something like this.

I'd agree he would be a good get at that price but he isn't playing regular footy with you and those players generally go for unders and I don't see us having much more you want (unless you want Tutt, Jones or Everitt back?). If we had pick 30 it would be perfect but unless the Suns are still keen on Everitt and willing to give up 1 of their second round picks for him I think you will be stuck with 41.
