ROAR LIVE: Get your questions in for Jason 'Dizzy' Gillespie and Glenn Mitchell

By Riordan Lee / Editor

This week’s Roar Live will feature Australian cricketing legend Jason Gillespie, so make sure you submit your best questions for the great man in the comments.

Dizzy is not only one of the finest cricketers this country has produced and is also one of the most sought-after coaches in the world, having guided county side Yorkshire to promotion from Division Two and back-to-back Division One titles in 2014 and 2015.

He’s now back in Australia as coach of the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League, and we’ll be having a chat with him at 5:30pm (AEDT) today on Roar Live, which will be streamed on Facebook Live (we’ll also play the live stream on the site).

Joining us after Dizzy will be veteran sports broadcaster and Roar Expert, Glenn Mitchell, to dissect the Australian Test team and the upcoming series against Pakistan.

Make sure you submit any burning questions you have in the comments for either Jason or Glenn and we’ll do our best to get to them.

Roar Live will be streamed today on The Roar’s Facebook page and also on the site at 5:30pm (check the homepage). It will also be available as a podcast on Soundcloud and iTunes.

Dizzy, Would you rather fight a Steve Waugh-sized mullet or 100 mullet-sized Steve Waughs?

I asked that question in one of his columns. My pretence was that the reason he was dropped was the Ricky Ponting run out ;) no response :D

Good point. Maxwell would get my vote, but many would look forward to Agar.

Steven Smith's biggest problem is his legacy. He's currently forming a terrible legacy of a dirty behavior that's watched and probably will be taken up by future generations of thousands of young cricketers. Today's youngsters are witnessing Smith's unnecessary and nonstop filthy habit of ceaselessly spitting. It not only includes him spitting into his hands at least 5 times before each bowlers delivery, or while directing his field placements, but he continuously does his own version of the highly disgusting act of spitting through his teeth. I was amazed to see him execute this action by not only spitting "normally" with a use of a cheek and lip blow, but also ejecting his saliva goblets with a very deliberate action by using his throat. If Smith's got a Tourette Syndrome Spitting Tic or a type of OCD Spit, then some one in the top levels of Australian Cricket should MAKE him seek the medical help he needs to curb this massive blight on his otherwise amazing talent. He should stop the spitting or step down as our captain. Every game on television now shows continuous HD slow motion close ups of the Aussie Captain in full spitting mode. It aint good to watch. It's revolting. I often wonder if Smith does this spitting stuff when he's off the field, in net sessions, or what about indoor net sessions. Or how does he curb his urge to spit when he's at indoor functions and ceremonies etc. Or what does he do inside gym work outs. I'm sure people aren't allowed to gob on gym floors as they exercise and strain as much as an on field cricketer does. Smith spits on field continuously even when an over is bowled without him hardly involved in fielding. I keep hearing people claim spitting on his hands helps to catch the ball. If this is correct then why doesn't he just carry a damp cloth in his pockets. Can some one let me know if cricket teams sit around and hoik up gob fulls of their slobbery muck and spit it on their dressing room floors the way the NRL teams do. We can only hope Steve "Spitty" Smith doesn't take up the footy players charming displays of their nostril evacuating cleanse as part of his jittery behavior. Mind you, there's nothing more funny than watching a hooter blow go wrong with a long string of snot all over a players dial. Thanks for any replies, but don't spit ya dummy!!!

Glenn, what would you change about the structure of first class cricket in Australia? Would you eliminate domestic one dayers?

Can Australia afford to keep leaving a player with Glenn Maxwell's talent out of the Test side?

Dizzy, How many more Tests do you reckon you could of played at number 3 after your inspiring Night Watchmen Double Hundred? Everyone talks about Brad Hodge being unlucky to so quickly lose his spot not long after a Double ton... But what about Jason Gillespie? Robbed I tell ya.

One final question to both of you. Which bowler in your respective eras would have benefited most from pink ball cricket? I'm thinking Damian Fleming and Terry Alderman would have been extremely hard to handle in an evening session with the new ball.

Dizzy, as a current coach, how would you handle the Glen Maxwell situation?

Glenn, since Dizzy is getting all the questions, here's one for you. Who do you believe is the best pure wicket keeper in the country?

Dizzy, It's 38 degrees in Sydney today and its your shout! Sydney is stupid expensive so you only have enough to buy 4 beers - But there are five of you....The other four are McGrath, Brett Lee, Kasper and Andy Bichel, all looking hot and exhausted... Who misses out?

Q @Dizzy - If you were out there opening the bowling with McGrath today, who would like to bowl to the least - Smith, Williamson, Root or Kohli? Your views on them versus each other and relative to the batsmen you bowled to in your day, would be appreciated. Cheers - Anindya

I wonder Sideline because Pattinson and Starc are more than capable at 8 & 9 together could Australia get away with playing all four and a spinning all-rounder at number 6

Question Why do we play 50 over One day internationals??? A friend asked a group of us if we wanted to go to the recent One day match in Sydney; we all laughed at him..... (and we usually go to all matches together, or with the families, Rugby 7's, netball, basketball, league and union etc); The game is boring; especially if its one-sided...... Plus; YOU CAN'T even get a decide beer....... they treat you like second class citizens. The game has moved on; it is no longer watched. from the 15-40 over mark you might as well go and have a sleep. The future is 20/20 games, why can't administrators see that?

Thank you gentlemen. My question is to Jason: Jason, how did you prepare for the one Twenty20 international you played against England in 2005, and how does it compare to how teams prepare for Twenty20s now?

Dizzy Q: Is cricket at the professional-level easier for batsmen today than in the 1990's or is that just a popular myth/stereotype, and it just depends on the conditions and opposition you face?

Dizzy a huge thanks for your thoughts with so many changes in our recent lineups and I guess rightly so with fans like us and there are so many reasons and even when the selectors make a decision we always seem to complain oh that player should be in because oh his average etc, sometimes decisions are made that at times makes me want to scratch my head. With the tours of Pakistan as we speak followed by India would you keep the same team.? Can you put in your best side would be great to see thanks

If Pat Cummings, Josh Hazlewood, James Pattinson and Mitch Starc are all fit and in form, which three make the test side?

Where do you guys stand on 4 day test matches? Do you think they would hinder the brand of test cricket or ease congestion in the scheduling? I'm not sure whether the broadcasters would be for or against the idea given the popularity of shorter format cricket and infrequency of 5th days in test matches currently. Do you know who is in the 'for' corner and who is in the 'against'. Who is the big player in this one day happening? Thank you

Jason, as a coach do you think there are too many selectors having too many differing opinions over a cricket team? Should coaches and captains be given more control on who plays for them being the people that would know them best?
