I don’t know Jarryd Hayne but, from all reports, he is a good guy.
However, he created waves again this week when he revealed that he’s not sure what is in store for him after this season with the Gold Coast Titans.
There’s rumours that he may be off to European rugby and Hayne himself was quoted as saying “I like to broaden my horizons”.
Well, from a sporting perspective, I don’t think European rugby is broadening Jarryd’s horizons enough.
In fact, I am ditching the traditional ball sports altogether and, tongue in cheek, suggesting Jarryd go for something more than a little different. So, Jarryd, if you are reading this, these sports are for you.
First off, ski jumping. Well, it ticks off the “different” criteria but, if you take out the height factor, this is right up Jarryd’s alley. Jarryd has great feet and, as long as he keeps them steady in flight, should be able to land these jumps more often than not. If Eddie the Eagle can do it, why not the Hayne Plane?
And, while I’m writing about the Hayne Plane, what about the Red Bull Air Race? This would be a marketer’s dream, imagine the Hayne Plane in a plane. This could be brilliant.
Next up as a suggestion is curling, you know that one played on ice when you roll a stone towards a target and need to keep sweeping your broom to control the stone. I’m not suggesting that Jarryd needs to sweep anything under the rug, but surely this is broadening his horizons.
I also think that synchronised swimming could be worth a crack. I’m not sure how Jarryd is as a swimmer but he must have done more than a few pool recovery sessions in his time. As long as he can hold his breath and put a peg on his nose, he’s got a shot.
Yes, I know, he’s male, and this represents a problem, but who knows? Women are playing AFL and doing a great job of it.
And, finally, fencing. Australia’s fencing stocks are limited and if Jarryd is still keen on an Olympics dream, this could be his ticket to Tokyo in 2020.
Now that I’ve probably offended everyone involved in a minority sport, its probably time to move on. But the sporting world is your oyster, Jarryd Hayne. Just think outside the square for your next adventure.

Seriously though... would love/hate to see other countries start taking it up and competing with India. Aus could put up a serious squad. Then again, how many aussies want to compete in a glorified Phy Ed game.

If Ashton f-king Agar gets selected for the Australian test team again... I'm pretty confident that Jarryd Hayne could well be playing test cricket for Australia in 6 months or so. It's "always been" his dream...

It could be better for the Titans for Hayne to go, Is he worth the money he is on, French rugby is a lot easier than playing Super 12, and certainly the backline there is a cushy gig there compared to the rigors of NRL.

I must be missing something, every press release i have seen states 2 years (no mention of option). From News Com on 3rd August at GC Airport"2 year deall" Brisbane Times"2 years". And a stack of other news outlets.

Its one year with an option, which I'm guessing wont be taken up as he will be headed back to the US to play Ice Hockey for the New York Rangers. Only a one year deal though, which leaves him free to tee up in the US Masters at Augusta the following year. After he takes home the green jacket, he will spend the next year winning the treble of the Tour De France, Giro D"Italia and the Vuelta a Espania.

Agree.Concentrate on the matter at hand Jarryd.We understand you are an athlete and therefore are potentially worthy of other sports. But you currently have an employer and sponsor paying you big cash for the next two years.Wouldn't it be common courtesy for those paying your salary and the Titan's fans who are going to spend their hard earned watching you, to be given some hint off commitment for the next two years. And not what may or may not happen in the year dot, with some other sport.Once you have completed your contract, then by all means test yourselves in whatever sport comes to mind.

Dave, you could be in line for a Golden Kingswood at the Roar Annual for that effort. At our place we all respect Jarryd's ability but refer to him affectionately as the 'Frisco Fizzer' A Titan's premiership depends on Jarryd producing the best season of his NRL career. Ryan James is arguably the best forward in League. He has that touch of Gareth Ellis. With the usual injury rider they should make the 8.
