Tell us: What questions do you want to ask Jason Gillespie?

By Daniel Jeffrey / Editor

He sits eighth in the list of Australia’s leading Test wicket-takers, coached Yorkshire to back-to-back County Championship victories, and is the current head coach of the Adelaide Strikers, and tomorrow, Jason Gillespie will be chatting to The Roar and answering your questions.

With England now on Australian soil and the Ashes fast approaching, and the start of the next Big Bash season not too far behind, we figured there are plenty of Roarers out there who wouldn’t mind asking ‘Dizzy’ a question or two.

If there’s anything you’d like to ask Jason, throw it in the comments section today, and we’ll pick out the best questions for tomorrow.

So, what’s it going to be?

You could ask about Alex Carey, the wicketkeeper touted by some as a dark horse for an Ashes spot this summer, who was coached by Dizzy during the last WBBL season.

You could ask who Jason wants to see in the Australian XI for the first Test at the Gabba, or what his recent stint coaching Papua New Guinea was like.

You could even ask about that memorable innings in Bangladesh back in 2006, although you can also read a first-hand account of the double century from the man right here on The Roar.

So, get your questions in today, and keep an eye out for the interview later in the week.

What's your advice to a fellow nightwatchman on 6 not out for how to approach the innings when I get back out there.

Good question. So much has changed in 20 years and it would be interesting to hear how the focus has changed on what they're now emphasising, particularly at development levels

The differences of the coaching and mental health aspects of modern cricketers bersus in his day. And how things have changed either for better or worse and his opinion on if current gen players are as mentally toughfor rigors of the game.

Do you think Australia needs a fifth bowler? At the age of 27, do you think James Pattinson is likely to stay fit long enough to carve out a decent career? Who should bat at 6 in the Ashes and why is it Glenn Maxwell?

Jason, fast bowlers are now being rested from games if they bowl too many overs. What is your personal policy on it. Did your body and rhythm suffer if you were on the sidelines or did you prefer to just keep bowling when you had that rhythm working for you?

With Steve Smith basically closing down Glenn Maxwell's career as an all rounder by refusing to bowl him (despite proven wicket taking) can you explain what the coaching panel say in response? Is it a policy? Why is it a policy? When Smith refused to use Agar's bowling in favour of a struggling SOK, does anyone take him to task?

What more does your fellow South Australian Chad Sayers have to do to get a bowl for Australia?

Should the World Cup of T20 be extended to 20 teams similar to the Rugby World Cup such that PNG have a chance of qualifying and competing with the established nations?

Dizzy, How do you see pace bowling in it's current iteration worldwide? What are your thoughts and frustrations with the fast bowling contingent of today?

Back when you were playing there was some real genuine depth in the pace battery, do we have depth at the moment say outside our top 3 or 4 quicks, are our next lot of quicks 5 to say 8 up to test cricket?

Dear Dizzy, Two short questions please: 1. Are you actually a fan of the bebop jazz trumpet playing of the man who gave you your nickname? 2. And on a more serious note (so to speak), how do you see the 50 over form of the game in the current cricketing landscape? Is it now obsolete, sandwiched between the majesty of test cricket and the frivolity of 20-20? Is there a certain irony that One Day Cricket has been out-lasted by test cricket and out-blasted by its own awful progeny, T20? My own view is that Test Cricket is the only serious form of the game, but T20 serves as a useful 'gateway dr*g' for youngsters, whereas One Day Cricket is the annoying house guest who has long outstayed its welcome but just won't leave.

Two questions 1. Mr Gillespie. The American business environment has fundamentally changed following the insider trading and savings and loan scandals. Explain business ethics, and how they are applied today. 2. Each summer, the average Australian readies themselves for the commencement of two national sports. The first is cricket, the second is Australian cricket team selection. It is manifestly obvious that the media, and forums such as this one place far greater scrutiny on the performance of the NSP than the performance of the player. And while we accept that no decision will make the entire fan base happy, it is fair to say the average fan has been left scratching their heads at the direction taken by the NSP from time to time. Do you think the level of transparency with decisions made by the NSP is sufficient, and if not, should the NSP do to reclaim the public's trust in their capacities?
