From Rabbitoh to Rooster? Angus Crichton to leave South Sydney

By Josh / Expert

Angus Crichton has confirmed that he’ll be leaving the South Sydney Rabbitohs at the end of the 2018 season, with speculation rampant that he will sign with the Sydney Roosters.

The Sydney Morning Herald has reported the Crichton is certain to sign a three-year deal with the Roosters, and are reporting that the deal “is rumoured to be close to $1 million a year.”

Crichton will stay with South Sydney for the 2018 season and serve out the remaining year of his contract, but has rejected what was reportedly a four-year deal offered to him by the Rabbitohs, albeit less lucrative.

South Sydney released the following statement on Monday:

“Angus Crichton has informed the South Sydney Rabbitohs that 2018 will be his final season with the Club, having committed to a contract with another NRL club for 2019 and beyond.

“The Rabbitohs made a strong three-year offer to Crichton for his services beyond 2018 however he has chosen to take up a more lucrative offer elsewhere. Crichton will be remaining with the Rabbitohs for the 2018 season.

“Crichton has played 30 NRL matches to date, scoring eight tries since making his debut in 2016.

“The Rabbitohs look forward to the 2018 season with Angus and wish him the best for the future beyond the end of next season.”

More to come.

In 2019 the Salary Cap will be $9.6M as there will be a $200k increase. The Rorts will have at least 4 players on a million bucks. Tedesco $1M Cronk $1M Private School Traitor! $1M Cordiner $1M Cordiner will have to be on a Mill also A 30-game Rookie on more than the NSW Captain? No WAY! Keary on $750k Friend on $750k Mitchell on $400k or more Napa on $700k Furguson 400k or more. Tupoa $300k or more JWH $400k or more That is 11 players on roughly $6.6M **************** 9 Important players here: 4 Current Internationals not mentioned above Sio Siua Taukeiaho NZ Isaac Liu NZ Zane Tetevano Cook Is. Eloni Vunakece Fiji Ryan Matterson, City Origin. Mitchell Aubusson, Country Origin Other Players of Note: Nat Butcher Mitch Cornish Joseph Manu None of these blokes would be on minimum contracts, NO WAY! So these 9 players above will need to divide up about $2.15M or an Average of $239k I doubt it! I just can't see how? ************** 10 Players on Minimum Wage? Minimum Wage is at $100k Players 21 to 25 at Min Wage $500k Minimum Wage Players 26 to 30 can be at least on $70k 5 Players $350k ************** 2019 CAP Review: 11 players on $6.6M, maybe a bit less. 9 Players on about $2.15M Not sure of contract amounts but the Average is only $239k, that just doesn't seem feasible! 5 Players on $500k 5 Players on $350k Yeah, Mobster Nick will make that work. NOT!

Angus Crichton is from TEMORA, NSW He is a YOUNG Cherry-Pickers Junior. Going to Scots college and playing a few trial games at the U18s level doesn't make you a local Junior. The NRL/ARL rules state that it is where you played your very first game before turning 13. He didn't go to school in Sydney until year 7

I don't have to be a Rooster's fan Mossie, and thank God I'm not, to know that club has offloaded a battalion of players this year, and i can see another one or two(no names) who will be given the see you later sign next year. Front ended,.back ended ,"forever ended" contracts are available ,so one doesn't have to be the Reserve Bank Treasurer, to fit them under the Rooster's sombrero.

Rebel. When a poster by the elongated alias of M,made the comment rugby league stole him, do you expect all and sundry to respond of course they did, when in fact they didn't.

Bondi United Junior Understand Having previously been part of the Tricolours system in 2014, the Bondi United junior played with the Roosters SG Ball side alongside Connor Watson, Latrell Mitchell and Joseph Manu. https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/sydney-roosters/south-sydney-confirm-exit-of-young-gun-angus-crichton-ng-812f782a27bcaec38d210a1f8038da4b Interesting it being confirmed that Souths Poached him from the Roosters PREMIERS South Sydney have scored one back against rugby union following the departure of Sam Burgess, signing teenage Australian schoolboy Angus Crichton straight out of The Scots College. Crichton, 18 and currently sitting the HSC, is a damaging centre or backrower who the Rabbitohs have poached from under the noses of archrival NRL club Sydney Roosters. https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/sport-confidential-rabbitohs-steal-rising-rugby-star-paul-gallen-carrying-on-like-a-sook/news-story/6de490e85262418fe0f8cd9b7cefcdf4

When businesses (including clubs) show no loyalty to their employees (eg players) then it should come as no surprise that players show no loyalty in return.

Well done for reading. Yes he played both codes from a young age. Definitely not as per your post though, who would have thought Wikipedia would let you down. Maybe he wasn't good enough, maybe he had something else come up, maybe he wasn't interested in the end. We can cast as many dispersions as we want, however he knows and he definitely is good enough now with multiple clubs in both codes chasing him.

That's what you got out of it? What I got out of it was that he has played both codes from a young age and is now doing what he feels is best for him at this time. Mean while nuffies on the internet quote incorrect information to boost their fragile egos in some weird form of reflected glow of 'their code'. Remember this was a tit for tat about poaching when the person that matters said he played both. If it makes you feel better, lets just assume he played league a week before union and all his skills are derived from the former. Nothing to do with him being a talented athlete that would excel at most sports he put his mind to.

Fair dinkum and good riddance, Crichton is not the be all and end all at Souths! We will just get on with business. Very sad that transfers are becoming so common and fickle and players at this young age have no loyalty!

"It is ok for a league player to come from union." True. But even in the quote above you provide, he admits to playing league at school - why is playing league at school less important than playing union at school? And why is his being "not sure" at being picked for the Cherrypickers proof that he wasn't playing league at the club - but not good enough to be picked?

Even in the quote you find, he admits to playing league at school. I'm also not sure why he's "not sure" he played for the pickers, as elsehere I remember reading that he played for them for a year. Maybe he wasn't good enough?

no it gets annoying when both 'communities' do it, as proven above, incorrectly using Wikipedia. Fact is both codes are quite fluid these days. The players don't need a bunch of insecure couch potatoes talking on their behalf about which code developed them or they prefer. The players don't need the same level of justification in their life.

The Waratahs simply didn't provide with a proper offer. There was an interview with him on this very website where he said the Tahs said he would make the grade at a certain age and nothing about how he was going to get there. There was another schoolboys Rugby player Boyd Hollingsworth- Dessent that was interviewed in a clip on here that he would consider league if Rugby didn't come up with an offer. He eventually signed with the Brumbies Academy that was only just brought back recently.

I agree with some of your comment but some of that is a stretch. Yes Melbourne and Brisbane have been finals certainties for a while now but the Roosters, Cowboys and Eels have all had massive poor patches.

Oh buzz off Mosquito, We've lost SKD (NZ international), Guerra (SOO), Pearce (SOO), Connor Watson, Nikorima, Kane Evans (Fiji international) just off the top of my head. We get audited like all the other clubs mate.
