VOTE: Help us predict the 2018 AFL Ladder

By Josh / Expert

The 2018 AFL season is very nearly upon us. Here on The Roar we’ve put forward a range of opinions during the preseason about who will rise, who will fall, and who will sit awkwardly in the middle – now it’s your turn.

Below, we’re asking you to pick your predicted AFL ladder for 2018. Voting will be kept open throughout the weekend, and the results released on Monday morning.

Last year our consensus ladder got it, well, not entirely wrong. Sure, we tipped the eventual premiers in Richmond to finish fourteenth, and put three teams in the eight who instead spent their Septembers in Bali, but hey, we were bang on correct about North Melbourne finishing 15th.

Can we nail it this year? It’s up to you, Roarers. Put in your votes, and we’ll do the rest.

The silence is deafening but very predictable.

Yet the Blues are headed in the opposite direction to the Bulldogs. Once again, the Blues are rising to the top, the dogs are returning to the bottom for the next 56 years. At least you got to see your team win a flag in your lifetime, a rare thing for Dogs fans. Once again, you have fired from the hip without checking your facts. For the record, the membership is actually increasing. The AFLW is not a fully professional comp yet and the game is developing, I believe it is still too early to tell which teams will be dominant and which won't. Having said that, the Blues have been woeful this year though.

Kane - You won't get him to answer you straight forward and very good question because he isn't brave enough to admit the obvious. Pretty much every statement he makes is demonstrably false but he never has the courage to own up to it.

You have just stated everything that a Carlton fan already knows but as usual you still haven't answered the question of your statement.

"If you want to see how abusive your fans are just read any article on Collingwood,Essendon or Fremantle that’s been run over the offseason." Please provide evidence. "Kane,I’d say 16th-18th but anything less than 12th-13th would be massive fail." So for the third year in a row Carlton exceeding your expectations will still be seen as a fail to you? "Carlton really lack leg speed across the ground" Please provide evidence. "Carlton seem to go in far to tall" How many players above 195cm do you expect the blues to play?

Kane,I'd say 16th-18th but anything less than 12th-13th would be massive fail. I think the first key will be at selection,Carlton seem to go in far to tall which will either prove a master stroke or something that needs to be addressed. The second will be disposal. Carlton really lack leg speed across the ground so keeping the ball will be crucial. If you want to see how abusive your fans are just read any article on Collingwood,Essendon or Fremantle that's been run over the offseason.

As usual you didn't answer my question? I answered yours where i think we are and where we will finish. I also addressed your concern about us being a once powerful club. Yes, Beveridge won a flag in his 2nd year but he started a long way in front of where Bolton has because as I've stated he inherited an absolute mess which no Carlton fan is denying. Show me where a Carlton fan has been as you put it "massively abusive"? The only abuse I've seen is you to every article about Carlton but that's ok because it's your prerogative. And on the membership that you say are dwindling, isn't the memberships the highest it's ever been this time of the year? (don't let the truth get in the way of what you want it to be). And the only reason Carlton fans say anything about your comments about Carlton is because of the vitriol that you speak of them. So please answer my question. Why should "Carlton be far more successful" than Western Bulldogs?

"every preseason article has blues fans overstating things" Please show evidence. "Are you seriously denying how abusive Carlrton fans have been over the preseason while concentrating on me?" Please show evidence "with dwindling membership" Please show evidence

It's a bit sad that only one team can win a premiership each year, but that's life; or you could say, it is what it is.

Kane, every preseason article has blues fans overstating things. You yourself have made zero comments of your own but seem concerned by mine? Let's see how Carlton go compared to the Bulldogs, the lists are almost the exact same age. Are you seriously denying how abusive Carlrton fans have been over the preseason while concentrating on me? Beveridge won a premiership in his second year and played finals in his first. Bolton can not keep taking this mighty club backwards. Carlton used to be one of the most powerful clubs in the land, now you are nothing, with dwindling membership,a sorrowful excuse for a club in the modern era. Explain why your own fans have been so abusive over the preseason?

I'm converting from a Rugby League follower to an AFL fan. Until the umpires turn me off, again.

Tomatoes, Tomartoes. You say Carlton should be way more successful, I'm interested into why they should be way more successful? Accepting mediocrity maybe? I as a Carlton fan am not accepting mediocrity, I'm accepting exactly where our list is at. We've had a horrible 15 years which no Carlton person is denying even in your own little world you think that we are. I expect improvement and a finish of around 13th but at the same time Bolton is only 2 years into fixing the massive mess that he inherited. I look forward to hearing your answer on why Carlton should be more successful than Western Bulldogs and whilst you're answering questions please tell me who says every preseason that Carlton are great?

Exactly Kane,Carlton should be far more successful, remember though you replied to me. The Carlton fans here have been massively abusiive during the off season, with Essendon,Collingwood,Fremantles and Footscray coping the brunt of it. What's acceptable for the mighty blues this year? 12th sounds fair, not a high bar,the list isn't overly young in comparison to other sides,it sits somewhere in the middle. Surely bottom four again is not acceptable, turn off the replying waterworks and stand up,what's acceptable? Every preseason we hear how great Carlton are, every year they end up on the bottom. Also Kane,I never use the H word, that was your word.

Why only hate Carlton and Collingwood when there are other fantastically insipid and equally dispisable clubs out there to spit your bile at like Port Adelaide, Westcoast, Melbourne and Essendon. And the reason we hate them? It’s their supporters of course. I mean, let’s get real about this. I’ll be honest here, I’d hate Richmond for the same reason and with just as much conviction if I wasn’t raised to hate myself. And don’t forget, Carlton are fun to hate because of you press their fans hard enough, they’ll admit that they hate them as well. Even when they’re winning. Carlton supporters aren’t sports fans. They just follow Carlton because everyone else in their family is into some kind of sport and they recognised Carlton as being the least complex and easily digested, faceless organisation that they are.

Who hate the bulldogs? What a waste of energy. That’s like picking on the kid at school that has no friends, because he has no friends.

All this coming from someone who's club has won 2 flags in 92 years of existence and you say Carlton fans accept mediocrity. Carlton has won the same amount of flags in the AFL era and made 3 grand finals to your club's 1. On these statistics, who accepts mediocrity? And to say that you want to see Carlton improve just so you can hate them again shows that you are a pretty sad and miserable person.

I want to see Carlton improve so I can not like them again. Constant failure, half the fans have left, those that remain just happily accept mediaority or live in an old VFL era that they're somehow still important. And some are just in total denial and think we should have some sort of respect for them just because. And some even think that people that patronise this sorrowful club are well meaning, but if anyone points out how dismal they actually are,on come the waterworks. Maybe the AFLW team will do something? Nope, they finished on the bottom as well.
