Match preview:

The Carlton Blues are looking to get their first win of the season when they face the Essendon Bombers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 2:10pm (AEST).

It must be a frustrating time to be a Carlton supporter. They’ve heard the same message for a number of years – the side is in a rebuild – but you’ve eventually got to come out of it.

Yes, it is a young group, but they just aren’t showing enough. They looked better last season if one is being truthful, but they do have a handful of injuries to key players.

They showed glimpses against Adelaide last week that they have the fight and competitive edge, but just didn’t show it for long enough. I like the look of Harry McKay, though. Seems to have an eye for goal and is starting to show his worth to the Blues faithful.

In team news for the Blues, Darcy Lang will make his Carlton debut, while Charlie Curnow and Jed Lamb also come into the side. Levi Casboult (injured), Matthew Kennedy (omitted) and Andrew Phillips (omitted) make way.

As for Essendon, this has been the worst start to the season from them in years. There was talk about a premiership and finals football, but they are nowhere near good enough. When it gets hard, not one of them has the ability to stand up.

People bemoan Brendon Goddard’s sprays to teammates, but he looks as if he’s the only one that cares. They’re lacking belief, and Hawthorn exposed that last weekend

In team news for the Bombers, Orazio Fantasia and Shaun McKernan replace the injured Joe Daniher and Andrew McGrath.

Prediction
Surely Essendon can’t lose this one? No disrespect to Carlton, but they just aren’t as good as the Bombers.

Bombers by 22.

I just seen the Charlie Curnow "incident"and if he gets a week for that then footy is stuffed. I agree Ed should get 1 week on precedent (but only on precedent) but Charlie shouldn't even get a fine for that.

May gets off Cat. What are your thoughts on this? And Charlie has been cited now but I can't find video anywhere of it. This touching the Umpire rule is starting to become a bit of a joke now, I seen umpires touch player's on a few occasions this year but nothing has been said about this.

Harsh Truth Harry

The most disgraceful umpiring in the history of the game points to a conspiracy against the Bombers. Clearly the AFL persecution of our great club has not finished. Not only were we persecuted for years without any evidence we are now clearly feeling the mandate of Gilligan to the umpires to make life as hard as it can be for the Bombers. A impartial investigation MUST be launched and I’m happy to fund it! A disgrace! Stand up Gilligan and address what you have done to our great game in allowing the game to become rugby! Then admit the umpires have been given a directive to make the Bombers life impossible!

2m is still close enough to hear someone Cat. They cou,d come in to 1.5m if you are concerned.

Cat, there is no reason an umpire should be within 2 metres of players. If they kept that space then Hawkins or Curnow do not make contact.

I agree Col, last week we even had umpire she touching players. What amazes me with all 3 cases is that the umpires that got touched didn't even think to report the players but apparently they were violated enough to warrant a minimum of a week

If the umpires don't want to be touched by the players then they need to not encroach on the players space.

Hawkins only got a week after he made a deal with the AFL too. If either or both try to challenge challenge the AFL has to seek 2 weeks each.

Top stuff from the Blues Bottom shelf, back of the shop from the Bombers, but they did double their score from half time Carlton had their kicking boots on,sort of,but 8 goals to 5 in the second half was enough Essendon's 3rd Q with 2.5 tells the story

It's pretty obvious he's just quoting Harry, James

Unfortunately right or wrong, they both have to get a week after what happened with Hawkins.

Curnow and May shouldn’t be cleared though. Clear as that both were intentional.

"Essendon is now the greatest reason for promotion/relegation in the history of football." I hope you realise you sound just as ridiculous as Harry when you say something like that.

Yes he does unfortunately, and so does Steven May. And that's the exact reason why Luke Parker had to and did get cleared today.

Ed Curnow has to be referred straight to tribunal. Precedent has been set.
