Fittler picks 11 debutants for NSW Blues in State of Origin Game 1: Reports

By The Roar / Editor

The NSW Blues Origin team won’t be officially confirmed until Monday night, but the names and numbers look to have been leaked with Buzz Rothfield reporting that the side will have 11 debutants.

The team put forward by Rothfield is as follows:

NSW Blues team for game one (reported)
1. James Tedesco, 2. Tom Trobjevic, 3. Latrell Mitchell, 4. James Roberts, 5. Josh Addo-Carr, 6. James Maloney, 7. Nathan Cleary, 8. Reagan Campbell-Gillard, 9. Damien Cook, 10. David Klemmer, 11. Boyd Cordner, 12. Tyson Frizell, 13. Jack de Belin.

Interchange: 14. Tyrone Peachey, 15. Paul Vaughan, 16. Jake Trbojevic, 17. Angus Crichton.

If accurate this team would mean that the only surviving Blues players from last year’s series were Tedesco, Maloney, Klemmer, Cordner and Jake Trobjecvic. The 11 debutants would be a State of Origin record.

Also notable is the fact that Jake Trobjevice has reportedly missed out on a starting spot, replaced there by Jack de Belin, and relegated to the bench.

Ryan James, Nick Cotric, Luke Keary and Euan Aitken are some of the notable candidates to have reportedly missed out on a spot.

Brad Fittler will announce the confirmed NSW team at 6:40pm AEST on Monday night.

Loose lips sink ships. The only thing Buzz can't do is leak the result.

Matt Scott is coming back from an ACL and he has not fully recovered his pre injury condiion. Kevvy doesn’t reckon he is up to Origin just yet. . He will play Origin again , probably in this series. Boyd is a more difficult one . You could say he is an incumbent but Holmes is as well. A really difficult choice . I think Boyd is a touch unlucky but one ‘incumbent’ had to miss. Kev has stuck solid my friend .

Absolutely. Peachy plays what he sees and is one of my favourite players to watch, He can cover just about anywhere.

Just on the QLD would never drop Jackson comment, so how do you explain them dropping Boyd and Matt Scott? I think QLD could afford to stick with a few blokes when they had Cronk, Smith and Thurston. I think today's selections have shown that.

That's though on Josh Jackson but that's what you get when your team's not going great. I see a bit of beaver Menzies in Crichton, I see him as a genuine try scoring forward.

Been already saying to all my peers that if Mitchel and Roberts get picked in the centres then they better have Josh Ado-Carr on the same side as Inglis because the only thing that will save NSW from a rampant Inglis will be his speed to cover up the missed tackles by either centre on Inglis. Both not 80 minute players defensively at least. Apart from that, I feel it is a good team and well deserved by most of the players.

Was always going to be a good squad. Can't agree with Turbo on the wing and his Jurbo coming off the bench. I'd swap JDB for him. Seems the two coaches are working have a similar game plan in-so-far as bigger boys coming off tthe bench then those who start.

Speaking of buddies, who the hell is Crichton? I seem to remember him from Souths last year being the standout...his been quiet this year, while others have been banging the selection door down. (pity Tariq Sims, John Sutton, Josh Jackson)

That side is pretty much spot on...in saying that the centre pairing worries me. At least it's not Dugan and Hayne though. Really happy to see Peachy on the bench, i think he could be the best bench utility NSW has had since Craig Wing.

If I were Nick Cotric I would be gutted. Trbojevic has not played wing all year and has had a few shockers this year with his clumsy attempt at high balls. Cotric is safe as a house under the high ball and on par with Holmes in finishing off tries on the flank. They should have decided on Turbo Tom at fullback or not at all. QLD will have a field day papering his flank in attack and with bombs.

I think that’s a really good NSW team . Two incredibly good running number nines, and Peachy can cover just about about any other position as well. Probably would have gone Simms not Chrighton as I thought he would terrorise The QLD halves and would get away with a lot more in Origin than in clubland. Thought Jackson is unlucky too, he is an Origin player through and through. QLD would never drop him. Overall though that’s an impressive forward pack. I console myself though with the thought That I have said in 99 Origins out of 100 that NSW has the better pack and we will have trouble matching them ,only to find the no names of QLD rising to the occasion.

Dugan is done. Not in the top 5 centres, fullbacks or wings in any position.......always get hurt.

I can't believe that De Belin is even being considered for game 1 . Looking at the pillow he had strapped to his hip before the Panthers game and then his near crippled look when taken off the field later in that game, he obviously has a serious injury that needs some time off. Same goes for James Roberts apparently carrying that achilles injury for some weeks. What are we doing picking obviously injured players for the start of the series ??? For mine, Josh Jackson should be the 13 and Euan Aitken the centre for these two injured players apparently being named.

Agreed. He was a deer in the headlights in last years series and did nothing to rally his team when the series started shifting Queensland’s way.

After Dragons recent dismal run I knew they'd lose a few from the predicted 7. Woods would feel unlucky, he may not be in top form but his stats - especially offloads - are ahead of the others. If this is the squad, it's quite a good group. Only Cordner is short of top form and I wouldn't have picked him. There are better options around. The massive blooper here is the omission of Dugan. I can tell you now Chambers, Inglis and Walters thought Christmas had come early. Two rookie centres with defensive deficiencies and two rookie wingers to cover for them.

Looks like Freddy was telling the truth when he gushed over speed, speed, speed. This is an attacking squad.

IMO , he’s a good player, but fails to deliver as a captain. It’s a hard one , but you need a captain to talk a lot , and that’s not Cordners strong suit, he’s a workhorse.
