St Kilda Saints vs Carlton Blues: AFL live scores, blog

By Liam Salter / Roar Guru

Friday night footy takes us to Melbourne, as the St Kilda Saints host a struggling Carlton Blues outfit. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEST).

Social media has been alight this week with questions, complaints and commentary regarding the week’s ‘premier’ match: Carlton taking on St Kilda. On a Friday night.

Perhaps AFL House expected the Saints to be progressing through the season much better than they are, while Carlton are here because they have fans, and their fans generally turn up in numbers. No need to repeat what fans, and their attendance, means to the AFL.

Regardless, there’s a game of football to be played.

St Kilda have been alright in the past few weeks, but their mini winning streak – with victories over Melbourne and the Gold Coast – came to an end against Port in South Australia last week.

Carlton still have only one victory this year, coming against Essendon, so a second win would do wonders, but their awful performance against Brisbane last Saturday doesn’t inspire hope.

Selection wise, there are changes aplenty. Carlton have lost Jacob Weitering, Andrew Phillips and Darcy Lang to injury, while dropping Matthew Wright and Nick Graham. Veteran Kade Simpson, Jarrod Garlett, youngster Paddy Dow, Matt Shaw and, importantly, Harry McKay return to the side.

Paddy McCartin, Logan Austin and Nathan Wright have all been struck down with injury for St Kilda, while the side has also dropped Billy Longer and Darragh Joyce. Jake Carlisle, Rowan Marshall, Tom Hickey, Jack Lonie and Ed Phillips are all included in the squad.

Prediction
It’s hard to envision Carlton saluting, even against a side of the Saints’ calibre.

Expect the Blues to make it competitive, possibly leading early, but St Kilda will steady to win their fourth match of the year, by around six goals.

St Kilda by 34 points

I'm merely catching you out in lie after lie after lie. You remind me of the guy who challenged my comments regarding FTTN. When I corrected him with FTTP, he immediately changed his story to FTTP too. How convenient. Your silly marketing comments backfired on you. As such, you're now changing your VB story, just like you changed your Kodi story. I'm happy for you to continue stalking me to save face. Albeit a little weird. Perhaps we can talk about cars next week. Let me guess: you're either a Commodore or Falcon man?

I watched a stream on that Saturday night. I had no other alternative because Optus had a massive issue at their end. Just too inconvenient watching through Kodi. Not even sure what you're arguing now.

"I don’t drink it, but it’s perfectly acceptable." ...has now changed to: "I have drunk it at various times." "I have Kodi and it looks nice and crisp on my super fast connection, but I never use it." ...has now changed to: "I ended up using Kodi and watching in crisp, smooth HD". Um, yeah. I think someone needs to get their stories straight next time.

I warned you to be careful about how you answered that. Our original conversation started well before SBS had full coverage, remember? You were allegedly not ‘finished’ and wanted to watch further matches that were not broadcast on SBS — hence your Optus enquiry. Yes, this was a Saturday night. All the reports from Friday night were that the Optus streams were unwatchable. Before spending $15 I wanted to know whether the issues that caused the streams to be unwatchable had been resolved. You started blaming people (including myself) for having slow internet connections blah blah blah (you have yet to admit you were completely wrong). You then went on to tell me how super fast and crisp your Kodi stream was, despite me questioning why you needed Optus in the first place should this be the case. Kodi is not user friendly. Absolute last resort for me. It's why I pay for Foxtel. I ended up using Kodi and watching in crisp, smooth HD. So now that you’ve cornered yourself, again, how is it you were allegedly watching all these matches ‘before’ SBS gained access to them, especially if you’re now saying you don’t use Kodi? You need to calm down. Have a G&T and savour the floral notes. SBS have shown every game since the first Monday of the tournament. Secondly, if you don’t buy or drink VB, how do you know it is fine? I have drunk it at various times. It's not something I personally buy. It's an acceptable drink. I just couldn't bring myself to spend $100 on gin outside of a special occasion. I'd feel like marketers are preying on a personal weakness.

VB is one of the most heavily marketed products in Australian history. It’s also one of the most popular precisely because it’s cheap & nasty. VB drinkers are always portrayed (in their adds) as being very masculine — something you’ve tried representing in your initial comments. How cute and poetic. You’re a little sheep, Anon. Irrespective of how hard you want to save face in front of me, you know I’m right. I don't drink it, but it's perfectly acceptable. One of the better Carlton beers. I don’t judge people on this site, but I am an eye for an eye type person. If you want to step into the ring with me, I’m happy to punch you around for a few rounds. Gets a bit of Dutch courage with a few G&Ts in him. If you never use it, then how have you been watching the World Cup Finals? We both know it’s not on Fox and you’ve effectively admitted to not having enough money to afford Optus? On SBS LOL. This is the problem, anon: your English is not good enough against me, nor your memory. I can continue busting you up all day if you like — catching you out in lie after lie after lie. You can't buy class with an overpriced bottle of gin.

BTW — I'd think long and hard before answering: "how have you been watching the World Cup?"

Plenty of people with proper internet connections (including me) didn’t have trouble, so stop lying. I told you they wouldn’t fix the issue, rather split their resources with SBS, which is exactly what they did at the exchange. I know people with great connections who had problems. The problem is at Optus's end as they have admitted and acknowledged. You were caught out pretending to have Kodi. Now you’re upset by it. Your lack of knowledge in IT was exposed here. It also explains why you are incapable of understanding what exactly happened. I have Kodi and it looks nice and crisp on my super fast connection, but I never use it. Foxtel covers most of my sport needs. You made a silly tough guy comment about gin, resulting in exclusion from the conversation by those who enjoy the finer things in life. Just look at the number of people who joined in. This year it's gin, next year it will be something else. Such a slave to culture. So helpless and beholden to modern culture and trends. Not you though. You felt the need to test yourself against me. It backfired and now you’re trying to save face again because you’re unhappy. It happens. I irritate a lot of people on this site, but I don’t think I’ve seen someone as frustrated as you since Fuss on the Football Forum. I think you're projecting. You haven't been able to admit you got it wrong about the Optus streaming problem. It's been 4 weeks now. Admit you were wrong. You can’t control this conversation Mr Cheapskate VB drinker. I suggest you move on. VB isn't cheap, but I don't buy it. I'm happy to drink it though. Not my first choice. I just need an agreeable drink at a reasonable price. I'm not easily swayed by marketing.

You claimed that people were only affected by bad Optus streams if they had a lousy internet connection. Turns out the problem was not at the customer's end, but 100% at Optus's end. So you were wrong there. My connection is very fast. If you spending $100 on a bottle of gin so you can taste some floral notes gets you excited then good on you. I just need a reasonable beer at an acceptable price. I'm not easily brainwashed by marketing fluff and popular/foodie culture where food/alcohol is fetishised by people bored with their culture.

I think you’ll find I was the one who told you Optus wouln’t fix anything due to bandwidth issues at the exchange and I was right. Secondly, you’re still upset about me catching you out in a lie. It’s okay. I get it now. All you can afford is beer at a reasonable price. It now explains why you couldn’t afford $15 a month having to resort to Kodi, which you had no idea how to use.

I'm just having a little fun with you. I was right about the Optus World Cup stream wasn't I? It was a problem at Optus's end wasn't it? Not a problem at my end because my super fast internet can handle streaming apps like Kodi just fine.

Do you wear non-prescription glasses, have a lumberjack beard and sport a fade as well? I just can't get into the whole fetishisation of food, alcohol, etc I just need a beer or whiskey that has an agreeable taste at a reasonable price. I drink for the combination of a buzz, relaxation, the ritual of it all.

And then to claim because the average games was about the same the teams were about the same experience despite the blues having half the side 21 or under compared to the saints 4 players was almost as bad a second Kennedy not being paid the mark at the end.
