Match preview:

The Sydney Swans host the struggling Gold Coast Suns at the SCG, with the home side looking to secure a top-four spot heading into the finals. Join The Roar for live coverage from 2:10pm (AEST).

Since joining the league in 2011, the Gold Coast have never beaten the Swans and based on recent form, it’s hard to see that changing this week.

Though Sydney have been without stars and a wealth of experience for large parts of the season due to injury, they have often managed to find a way to win. As much was highlighted by their performance last week against North Melbourne, when youngsters Allir Allir and Ben Ronke stepped up to dominate the game.

This is a big week for ruckman Darcy Cameron, who has been named to make his debut for the Swans.

In their hope of stopping Sydney, the Suns will need to lock down key forward Lance Franklin, who last week notched his 900th AFL goal. This job will probably fall to Steven May. Now the Suns’ sole captain for the rest of the season after Tom Lynch’s season-ending knee injury, the young Suns will look to their leader to put in a big performance against the rampaging forward.

Prediction
They Swans are a professional outfit and will easily account for the Suns.

Sydney by 65 points.

The bookies would've made a killing. No way did any more than a couple of diehards put any money on the Suns.

My third straight double-up tipping loss. $#!T I'm having a bad run at the moment. Not as bad as the Swans it would appear though. Did anyone tip this? If you did, I'm betting you're at the bottom of your tipping comp.

No the swans cannot take any heart at all. That was a disgraceful game and they proved they are not fit to play finals. A waste of money and time going to watch them. Heads must roll starting with a fair few players and the coach.

Well, there you have it. An incredible result as the Suns are able to defeat the Swans for the first time in their history. After dominating the first quarter, Sydney were held goalless until early in the last term, as the Suns piled on 8 unanswered majors. Gold Coast continued to apply manic pressure forcing a number of turnovers from the Swans for the better part of the match. Skill errors remained a prominent feature of the match for both teams, but an overwhelming application was what allowed the Suns to run out winners in the end. Gold Coast's repeat entries in the last 3 quarters saw them finish the match with 61 inside 50's to 48; giving the Swans no respite. Will Brodie and Touk Miller were the major ball winners for the Suns, while Aaron Young and Alex Sexton were the best in front of goal, with 3 and 2 respectively. As for Sydney, they were unable to match it with the Suns for the majority of the match. Their skill execution fell away for large parts of the game and opened the door for the Suns to dominate the game. This match was really a must win, percentage boosting opportunity, but it turned out to be a real embarrassment, as they were shown up by a vastly inexperienced Gold Coast outfit. It does not bode well for Sydney, as their run to the finals does not get any easier; as they take on Essendon, Collingwood, Melbourne and GWS in the next month. Despite the result, the Swans can take heart from the performances of Allir Allir (who was crucial again) as well as their skipper JPK and Luke Parker who collected 33 and 29 disposals each. Small forward Tom Papley was also impressive with another 3 goals. A real upset today, and I'll happily eat my words regarding an all too bold prediction. Full credit to the Gold Coast today! Thanks everyone for being a part of it; really enjoyed my first live blog here for The Roar!

I have been a Swans supporter for 20 years.. but today Mark's the worst moment for me in my history of following this club. I know that teams can lose, but the manner in which the swans lost was absolutely pathetic. Us fans pay good money to watch the Swans play every week, but to be honest it will be a struggle to turn up again. For a team with a proud history and a culture of putting in a huge effort despite who the opposition is, this is a sad day

Remarkable result. Suns showed a bit when the Swans came back within 7pts. Well done to them.

Full time! Unbelievable result and one of the biggest upsets of the season, as the Suns win by 24 points. 64-88. Genuine boilover, and I'll have to eat my words on that prediction!

It would help if May could hit a target when playing out from defence. My goodness!

No disrespect to the Suns but this has been the worst performance from a Swans teams for at least 10 years.

26 point lead to the Suns with 4 mins left on the clock. Leigh Matthews rule comes into effect now for Sydney!

GOAL Peter Wright misses! PASSES to Holeman who calmly puts away the goal to all but seal it for the Suns. This has been an amazing performance.

GOAL Lachie Weller slots it from 50m on the run! unbelievable as the Suns extend their lead to 21 points with 6:30 on the clock. Gold Coast continue to burst free from the stoppages. It is now the Suns' match to lose.
