VOTE: Wallabies DIY player ratings vs Springboks

By The Roar / Editor

The Wallabies have held on for a heroic five-point win over the Springboks at Suncorp Stadium despite the absence of star players Israel Folau and David Pocock.

Some would say Australia were excellent given the absences of key players, others might say that neither team played well and the Wallabies were lucky to hold on.

Perhaps the answer lies in looking more closely at the individual performances? And so we’re opening up our DIY Player Ratings to you, Roarers. Have a vote and let us know what you thought of each player’s performance.

If you’ve not done our DIY player ratings before, it’s a simple enough process. Hit up the form below and rate each player from 1 to 10 based on their performance. We’ll keep track of the results and publish our findings tomorrow.

You’re free to rate players as you like with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest – or toss an NA on any player not worth rating – but if you’re looking for a bit more detail than that, our handy little guide might help you make your judgments…

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a squad of such depth.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good.
7. Pretty good, actually.
8. Very good.
9. Excellent.
10. Might as well have been John Eales.

I reckon our props and locks deserve a max of 3 each. Same with Ned Hooper a 4.5 and Poey a 7. Genial gets a 7 as does Marika and DHP. KB is a 3 and should be playing 12. Folau shouldn't get the match payment. Coaching staff get a solid 2.5

I think 'free pass' is a touch harsh, given there are very few Wallabies who earn their jersey through years of hard graft these days, and plenty who hold onto it thru years of mediocrity (cough*Foley*cough). I agree Maddocks isn't a great finisher, but again who is of the current crop? Anyone who watches any amount of NRL will see daylight between Aus league and rugby finishers at the moment. I still like Maddocks as a footballer, I suspect 12/10, via an apprenticeship at 15, is the way to go. Whether he is currently worthy of a WB 15 / bench utility spot is another question.

Agree, it’s bad. Confusing. Articles should appear in chronological order.

You gotta wonder what sort of acceptance testing went on but Ill gaurantee numbers will drop off across the site big time if it stays like this. Too many graphics for one, an inconsistent layout, variability in user experience across the various platforms, mobile and tablets becoming more the default, no ability to revert to the old layout, reduced editing functionality. If click bait was actually so important then its just got a huge knockback.

How about a zero for the app when used on an iPad. Only fills half the screen

Fair call.. I'm the same, but I'd go a step further and just add one more rating and that's a big fat ZERO for this new Roar website. I know it sounds implausible, but it's actually performing even worse than the Wallabies. Confusing tactics, everything's out of position, and what used to be a great experience is now making the fans leave in droves.

I agree Riddler and Fionn! I don't feel as though he is ready as an outside back. What are your thoughts on Maddocks prospect at becoming a 10? Steven Larkham has mentioned his potential towards the future. He has played there as a junior, is a natural athlete, balanced runner, has decent acceleration and seems to have the capacity to learn.. Unfortunately it would require him to actually be picked in that position in SR to learn it...

Boy! I must be a tough marker... I could only score 2 above 6. Genia and Toomua.

You're right, riddler. Nothing against the bloke but rather like Hanigan last year he just isn't up to international rugby yet.

he keeps getting a freepass.. i don't see what everyone else sees.. which is admittedly not a new event.. would much banks or even jordan.p.. same with koroibette.. am not a fan.. both of maddocks efforts of his for the tryline had no strength.. and always gets found out on defence as the last man..

Really the whole team was a 7 - a couple of 8's in Genia and Hooper (for resilience in remaining on with a dodgy hammy) and Taniela for similar reasons. Alan Alaalaatoa was a 5 - touched up really. What we have to accept is that we are avery good and competitive second level side along with SA, Argentina, Ireland, England etc and that the AB's are just a class above at the moment. Can we bridge that gap by the next world cup - I doubt it, but that is no reason to despair - onward and upward for the next one.

Maddocks is a lightweight. 12/10 league wingers would have scored both tries he failed to.
