Can Liverpool FC finally win the English Premier League?

By Jeremy Arfanis / Roar Rookie

I have supported Liverpool FC throughout my life. My team hasn’t won the league since 1990 which was before I was born. They have gotten close many times, especially in the 2014 season, but a few slips cost them the title.

Now, in the 2018-19 title race, Liverpool are closer than ever and currently still undefeated 14 games into the season. Even after this amazing achievement, Liverpool is still second – two points behind Manchester City and a goal difference Liverpool simply can’t catch up to.

Manchester City is the heavy favourites in winning the Premier League title this season, having won it last year with a record 100 points from 38 points.

Keep in mind, a team receives three points from winning and one point from a draw. This incredible season is one which has never been seen before, not even with Arsenal’s historic Invincible season who only managed 91 points in the season.

It is clear that Manchester City have started their season with real determination and do not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

Liverpool’s success this season is due to Jurgen Klopp. Klopp has made some brilliant transfers and his defensive tactics have been critical this season.

In January, Klopp bought powerhouse centre back Virgil Van Dijk, and his addition to the team has made a noticeable difference.

Liverpool has only conceded five from their first 14 premier league matches, which is amazing once you begin to think about it.

Klopp’s formation differentiation has also been effective this season. When playing more of an attacking game, Liverpool shift into a 4-3-3 formation. When playing with a more defensive shape, it becomes and 4-2-3-1, with four defenders, two defensive midfielders, three attacking midfielders and a false nine striker. This tends to put the opposition off-guard and works really well with our players.

Another reason I believe Liverpool FC will win the league, and the most important reason, is the supporters.

Liverpool fans are different than any other in the country. They are passionate, loud and use their voice for positive reasons. Many players opposing Liverpool in the historic Anfield Stadium have said the reason they lost was that of the constant pressure from the fans.

The players have a great relationship towards the supporters which always goes well for a football club. The supporters really want this title – and for that reason alone, Liverpool FC will win the English Premier League.

I think Liverpool have more than enough depth in the midfield and their attack is starting to look very promising.

Would love to see the Scousers break through but Man City just seem to have way too much dollars and firepower to let it happen. At least Manchester United are going nowhere. That part of things is very enjoyable.

I don't think so. Their midfield and front 3 are looking a little tired but they're still in the mix. If they really want to go for it they will probably need to bring in some reinforcements in the January window.

Liverpool fans use their voice for positive reasons.... thousands of examples where that is not true ... they have just as many songs full of bile as anyone else . The times I’ve been to Anfield , it’s been very quiet compared to a lot of lower division clubs grounds tbh . Birmingham city is the loudest in my experience. Nevertheless, despite Juergen klopp being unable to win a trophy so far , he appears to be a good man manager unlike his Portuguese rival up the road . Liverpool chance of winning the league will probably come down to their results against city Chelsea arsenal and winning theee games . , I can only see city losing once this season , but time will tell if Liverpool can maintain a challenge

How many dollars are you willing to hand over to the bookmakers? You can still get $6.20 on them towin the title.

I strongly believe that at this current moment in time, Arsenal FC hs a much better chance of winning the Premier League that Liverpool FC. Unai Emery has lifted the Arsenal squad and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is currently the top scorer in the League. 19 games in a row unbeaten show that Arsenal is in much better form than Klopp's men. Even ask Crawfish lmao

Yes, the fans can have a major impact on a game, for example, the game against Everton. The players' said the only reason they kept on pressing until the final stage was because of the fans. That is a difference of getting 1 point or 3, which has a major impact because of the little difference between Liverpool and city. There are also more cases like this.

"The supporters really want this title – and for that reason alone, Liverpool FC will win the English Premier League." - are you serious?

The answer is “probably not” unless you see MC suddenly collapsing. However, re-write a piece at the end of January after the Christmas fixture congestion has maybe had an effect, the cold, maybe snow and ice have caused a bit of doubt around the division and cup fixtures have muddiedthe waters. BTW - Liverpool supporters are no different from many others especially of teams that have not even enjoyed the limited success that Liverpool have experienced since the inception of the premier league. Newcastle fans are an excellent case in point. Look at what they have suffered with ownership, managers, playing staff, relegation, but they are still there supporting the club. I’d,argue the main difference is possibly the accent but then half of Mancheter United’s fans have London accents if the rumours are to be believed and Manchester City attract enormous followings from across the channel and north sea - to watch fast flowing attractive football I assume!
