Kurtley Beale appears in second video

By News / Wire

Kurtley Beale could find himself with more questions to answer from Rugby Australia after a second video emerged on Wednesday of the star back in a dubious situation.

On Tuesday Beale had apologised to Rugby Australia (RA) for his appearance in a video with rugby league player Corey Norman dating back to 2016.

Beale was seen laughing and drinking as another older man snorts a white powder.

In the latest video shown by Channel Nine, Beale can be seen playing with a vacuum cleaner like it is a didgeridoo.

A plate that appears to have lines of white powder on it is later seen being handled by another man.

Beale is not seen with any substances in either video.

Channel Nine reported the footage was taken post the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but back in Australia.

Rugby Australia released a statement about the first video on Wednesday night, CEO Raelene Castle saying Beale had apologised for the negative attention the video had attracted and the compromising position he’d put himself in.

Nine reported RA was attempting to contact Beale, who was in New Zealand ahead of Super Rugby commitments beginning in Australia next week.

@ Train Without A Station that must be correct - but the only difference is Drugs are illegal. i dont know about ur country but in mine there is death penalty for possession above a certain weight this kind of laws are prevalent in Asia and Middle east. noone is taken to prison for keeping liquer - but its a different case for drugs

Good God - it's 4 years ago, leave the guy alone. Real classy releasing the videos one at a time to have a maximum impact. Really poor.

Drugs & the abuse of alcohol is a scrouge in “white” Australia too, not just the Indiginous Australians.

Well I'd prefer to avoid it by the offences not happening, rather than by pretending they aren't happening.

Well yes. If bringing the game into disrepute is what you want to avoid, it absolutely makes sense to deal with wrong doing internally.

Sorry, not buying that at all. By that logic it makes sense to cover up wrong doing. However if that cover up is later exposed then the disrepute is even greater with now two offences. The original incident and the cover up. I'll take open and accountable, every time.

I'm no expert either, but I've read a lot of articles stating that alcohol use is a menace among the aboriginal community. Again, haven't looked at the data, but I would be very surprised if illegal drugs are a bigger issue than alcohol.

Regardless of how the event is released to the media - it brings the game into disrepute. Either it's a bard look. Or it's not a bad look. If RA is the source of the public knowing, any incident is still just as bad a look. If people being found to be involved in unsavory incidents brings the game into disrepute (because it's not the actual doing - it's it being publicized) then publicizing the events yourself is doing that to. Would we have thought any different of Beale punching Gareth Delve on the team bus had it been made public through a RA statement?

I find your line of reasoning truly bizarre. Being open and accountable vs sweeping incidents under the rug is a no brainer to me, in no way can they be equated with regard to bringing the game into disrepute. And I certainly wasn't trying to equate over sleeping and missing a bus with making videos surrounded by what appears to be drugs/use.

Fionn, I guess it comes down to whether culture is something that is important and you want it to be central to your team, or whether it's just a buzz word that has no real place but sounds good when you talk about the team. KB has always been a poisonous chalice in the team and for my mind it demonstrates that culture isn't actually that important to the Wallabies - or NSW for that matter. TBH I don't think his form meets the criteria for getting into the team, let alone his behaviour - but that's a separate issue.

u cannot equate open use of drugs to drinking alcohol . im sure those sort of drugs are banned in aussy - so this is a crime scene. in certain countries certain types of drugs are legal. but not aussy so Beale being at a place where illegal drugs are being used is an issue. recenlty NZ banned some guys - including boyfriend of 7S captain Sara Goss for having/ distributing / meaning to distribute certain drugs. and it had been a case going back to 2015 ( case got lot of news coz of Goss) i think the first thing Beale shud do is to undertake a voluntary drug test - and then apologize to the public. im no expert but i have read a lot of articles that drug use is a menace among the aboriginal community. he shud be setting the standard as a leading aboriginal player - not encourage tacitly.

It would just look downright silly if they hired one cocaine user (hunt) while at the same time punished another (Beale). With no evidence of kurtley doing anything illegal himself, I don't expect much to come of it.

Cheika having different standards isn’t treating us for mugs. I’m not saying it leads to the best result or is good management by him. But some people just have blinkers and make dumb decisions.

You’re first sentence is fair. But minor failures to meet team protocol aren’t incidents (eg. The Naivalu example). But most importantly, you think Beale should be punished for tarnishing the games’ reputation, but also want RA to air public laundry and do the same? I don’t think both those views are fair. I though the way the Beale and AAC ban was originally reported to be fair (that they were banned for failure to follow team protocol). We don’t have a right to know every single detail as much as we think we do.
