Introducing The Roar's brand new podcast - Game of Codes: Australia's biggest sporting debate

By Daniel Jeffrey / Editor

Roarers, we’re pretty stoked to announce the launch of a brand new podcast. We’re calling it Game of Codes.

The half-hour show will be published twice a week – on Tuesday and Thursday mornings – and will comprise five five-minute discussions on the hot topics in Australian sport between myself and the Expert columnists who contribute to The Roar each and every week, hosted by the wonderful Matthew ‘Petho’ Petherick.

In today’s launch episode, we break down the impact of the AFL’s new rules with Marnie Cohen, celebrate Greg Inglis’s wonderful career with Tim Gore, and analyse where the selectors went right and wrong with Australia’s 15-man Cricket World Cup squad with Glenn Mitchell.

With no undefeated teams left in the AFL, we also look at who the top contenders for the flag are a month into the season, and ask which teams are capable of stopping the Melbourne Storm in the NRL.

So have a listen in the player above, subscribe to the podcast on your preferred platform, leave us a review, and be sure to weigh in with your opinion on all the topics we covered.

Yes we were having a few issues getting it out everywhere yesterday. We'll be working to distribute it on as many platforms as possible in the coming days and weeks. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

As they do in their weekly columns, our experts will be explaining their points of view in the podcast, and we'll be having a solid debate if there are disagreements! Glad to hear you're looking forward to more Game of Codes.

I enjoyed the cast. I presume you will get the distribution via podcast apps sorted out over the next couple of weeks. I do not know how that works. FYI On Castbox the Intro only is available as at 5pm Aest.

@ Daniel Having a regular general sports' podcast, with sports' experts, on a digital platform, is a clever innovation- well done! I suspect it will be very popular, and a great success. Why hasn't it been done before? A suggestion. On sports' websites, the punters often pronounce broad generalizations- but, if dubious, with no attempt at facts to support their subjective ruminations. Hopefully, the expert commentators will have a "standard": mentioning some facts to support their views, when the view are highly contentious. This will be a great development for The Roar.

YES! A sports podcast I can actually listen to! Here in Britain, most sports podcasts are about football (which I'm not really into). It is much appreciated that there is a podcast that will address all the big sporting talking points across all the major Australian sports. It'll further my education into how you lot enjoy sport down under. Thanks again - you must continue this podcast for at least the next 100 years.

All I can say is that Tim G should get a better mobile and a provider, otherwise, this concept is great and I will be tuning in!
