Latu meets with Rugby Australia integrity unit

By News / Wire

Wallabies and Waratahs hooker Tolu Latu has been interviewed by Rugby Australia’s integrity unit over an alleged drink driving offence, but no outcome has been announced.

Reports in The Daily Telegraph on Saturday hours before Latu was scheduled to play for NSW against Queensland in Brisbane, alleged he was found asleep behind the wheel of a car with a blood alcohol level of 0.135 last Thursday.

Police will allege he was also driving on a suspended licence and will front Downing Centre Local Court on June 6.

On Monday, Latu who has played 12 Tests, met with the integrity unit, NSW Rugby Union chief executive Andrew Hore and the Rugby Union Players’ Association (RUPA).

No details were released of the meeting, but there may be an update provided on Tuesday.

Any adverse findings and consequent sanctions would be a blow to 26-year-old Latu in a World Cup year.

He has already been banished from the Wallabies’ Brisbane training camp, conducted following the weekend’s Super Rugby round.

Latu has a history of on-field ill-discipline and only recently returned from a six-week suspension for charging into a ruck in round two.

He failed to inform the NSWRU of the alleged offence before it became public knowledge.

Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson said he wasn’t aware of the incident until the media outlet contacted him at lunchtime on Saturday, just hours before the game.

Latu came on midway through the second half and had a hand in several key moments as the visitors prevailed 40-32.

I just realized an accidental pun here. The Dual meaning of a #2 one stinks and needs to be disposed of, the other is a bodily function.

If that is the case, he has a mound of number 2's to dig himself out of.

Onya Ben... mixed metaphors maybe? Or names? But methinks better than that... a confusion of the Alan which is currently most appropriate. One was most definitely... but now sorted. The other not so much... but needs sorting! :)

Timbo... I think he was found asleep behind the wheel at a set of traffic lights... and yes, on a suspended license. Or so it was reported in the local TV news here in Sydney. Mind you the local commercial TV news is accurate about 30% of the time... and that's on a good reliable week ;)

I think this one needs context, I suspect that we are missing most of it. If he is asleep in a carpark it is a minor thing. The courts would give him a slap on the wrist and a hefty fine. I suspect it is part of a bigger problem though. How did he get his car there on a suspended license? If it is in fact his... It was probably a rental.

Yes TWAS Another player clearly in breach of the RA Code of Conduct. I'd be surprised if any clubs in Europe would take Latu with his history of send offs, suspensions and contract breaches. But we'll see :)

It's always so nice to read posts from such liberated, tolerant people.

Geez Latu has handled this badly. He'll find himself in trouble. Quite possible the charge could see him terminated under his contract, unless he indicates he intends to fight the charge which I doubt he would. But then hiding it won't help his case. Unless there is major contrition from his part and agreement to strict conditions I don't see him surviving. I believe he is off-contract anyway, so I reckon we will see him released at the end of the Super Rugby season and he'll head overseas. Unlikely to get a Wallaby top up for 2020 before this anyway.

Better ring Quantas and see if they want his contract torn up.

Fortunately , there were no LGTBIZQTHFDSWR people involved , otherwise it would be the end of him.
