The key moments that cost Queensland Game 3

By The Roar / Editor

Queensland won Game 1. They dominated stretches of Game 3. They were seconds away from reaching golden point with the winds at their sails but, alas, they walk away with nothing.

Last night’s heartbreaking 26-20 State of Origin series decider loss sees the Maroons drop back-to-back series for the first time since NSW’s 2003-05 three-peat.

There’s no denying the visitors got mighty close to pulling off the comeback, but what were the key moments that ultimately cost them the game?

Could Queensland have done more with their late-game momentum? How did they fall on the back foot so quickly after half time?

We analysed all the key moments from Origin 3 with Roar NRL expert AJ Mithen on our Game of Codes Origin special, paying close attention to the ones the Maroons would be wishing they could have back.

Listen to the discussion:

After a stirring Game 1 victory, 2019’s State of Origin series will likely go down as one to forget for Maroons fans. The 38-6 drubbing in Perth is arguably one of the worst defeats in Queensland’s history, while Blake Ferguson and James Tedesco’s incredible last-minute try is sure to become a painful regularly replayed highlight over the coming years.

Tedesco scoring in the last 30 seconds was the key moment that lost QLD the game.

The referees not calling the 2 forward passes that led to nsw last try was a pretty key moment.

Qld did well playing with 11 guys... Norman was always going to be a disaster and chambers was his consistent sub par origin self. When WC made that break I screamed "chambers is doing something! NSW are in trouble now!" Queue dropped ball in tackle...

Norman’s two kicks out on the full are inexcusable at this level.
