Super Rugby Round 7 teams: O'Connor back for Reds, Chiefs and 'Canes stock up for blockbuster

By The Roar / Editor

A big Australian derby to close out the weekend headlines this round of Super Rugby matches. Check out the full Round 7 teams for every side here.

There are just two matches concerning Australian sides in Round 7, with the Brumbies hosting the Waratahs at 4:05pm on Sunday and the Reds hosting the Bulls on Saturday night. The Melbourne Rebels are on the bye.

The Reds will fancy their chances against the Bulls a whole lot more, with James O’Connor named to return after missing last week’s narrow loss to the Crusaders with an ankle injury. But it’s not all good news for Queensland, who’ve lost Hunter Paisami to a knee injury. Chris Feauai-Sautia takes hit spot as outside centre and Bryce Hegarty returns to the starting XV on the wing.

The Chiefs and Hurricanes have loaded up for their round-opening blockbuster in Hamilton. The home side welcomes back Damian McKenzie at fullback, with Atu Moli named to return via the bench, while the visitors have named Dane Coles in the starting XV for the first time season.

Bookmark this page as we’ll have every Super Rugby side for Round 7 listed here as they’re announced.

The CEO is brand spanking. Apparently a St Pat’s Strathfield man from subbies. I can’t imagine what pressure would be applied to keep picking Faulkner over having a look at Talakai.

Yeah I don’t disagree. I am getting a bit concerned about some of Penney’s coaching. Not only the selections, but what he has been saying about who has felt has been performing/not performing and when he has spoken about the set piece, as if it isn’t a result weakness for the Tahs. I mean, who knows what pressure the NSWRU is putting on him. But I do feel that he is actually missing his chance to rebuilt this season, by playing old hands who are out of form rather than bringing through the youth.

He's not been the worst in the team but I don't think he as been good, we should at least have a look at Foketi at 12 where he has historically performed better than he has at 13. At hooker we don't have a young option putting their hand up yet, Abel and Fitzpatrick are 30 and Tuala is 29. We should just be rewarding the best performer and so I repeat the question, what exactly did Fitzpatrick deliver during that second half capitulation that meant he deserved promotion? I also think for the older players they need to be on fire or we should be looking at a younger option. Hunt 33 - Foketi 25 Beale 31 - Ramm 21 Faulkner 31 - Talakai 25 The season is dead and buried, why are we persisting with players that are at best 'not bad' and north of 30 years old? What are we achieving from playing them? Is it bringing us a title this season? Contributing to one down the track?

Has Hunt been that poor? I actually think Fitzpatrick isn’t a bad player. He did an okay job starting the last few years I though. Abel has been good but not great, Agree KB in and Ramm out are the big shocks to me.

When is the Penney going to drop? KB still starting at FB? :crying: At least Ramm is still in the 23. Simmons and Staniforth reunited to ensure we have two locks that cannot clean out, at least Tafa was kept instead of McCauley. What did Fitzpatrick do for his half hour of last week's second half capitulation to deserve promotion to the starting side? O'Connor at least got his side of scrum moving forward, better drop him for Robertson who has done exactly zero this season. Faulkner - as immune to performance review as Beale? :crying: Can we not have a look at Talakai? Hunt has retained his position - maybe, just maybe we can see Foketi come on for him at 12, instead of for Newsome at 13? Can't hurt to take a look at the option can it?

GQ may,or may not, have made an offer, but if you think wingers are preoccupied with their looks, you should see the lengths ex-wingers go to. Anyhow, nuff for now. I’m off to the parlour.

I hear (here) that JOC does not want to kick, to preserve his dodgy ankles - fair enough, we are close to stuffed without him. Others, dunno. I’m sure Lucas would be putting his hand up if he could kick, being only on the margins of the starting XV.
