The Broncos have slumped to a 15-year low after six losses in a row

By Anton Taylor / Roar Guru

The Broncos slumped to another loss to the Warriors in Gosford tonight.

Brisbane were ten points up at one stage with Xavier Coates scoring the first two tries off an 85-metre intercept and a pass from young fullback Tesi Niu.

Ken Maumalo, the opposing winger, also scored two tries off a pass from Gerard Beale and then Peta Hiku.

Halfback Blake Green – who may not even be at the Warriors next year – kicked a 40-20 to set up an amazing try. He also made 17 tackles for no misses and kicked for 316 metres.

Maumalo also ran for 291 metres with lock Tohu Harris running for 238 metres and loaned player Jack Hetherington came off the bench and ran for 105 metres.

Kodi Nikorima was gone within the first four minutes and failed his HIA assessment after getting bulldozed by Broncos second-rower Tevita Pangai Junior.

Payne Haas was up to his usual standards, making 205 metres and 44 tackles for only one miss. Broncos lock Patrick Carrigan made 173 running metres and a monstrous 50 tackles for only one miss as well.

Corey Oates was a late inclusion after prop Matt Lodge was ruled out and Oates was very vocal, saying that he didn’t deserve to be dropped, but Oates did play in the second-row position.

Oates only made 50 running metres with 16 tackles and one error in the loss.

The Broncos had 51 per cent of possession with a completion rate of only 69 per cent, conceding six penalties and making 12 errors.

After the win over the Broncos, the Warriors now sit 12th on the ladder with the Broncos sitting 14th, but they have the same differential as the Titans (-127) and both sit on two wins and six losses.

Next week, the Warriors have the 15th-placed Titans, which is a game they should win with Roger Tuivasa-Sheck returning from suspension. The Broncos have the last-placed Bulldogs, which is also one they should win, but their current form could say otherwise.

The Broncos have also slumped to a 15-year low after losing their sixth game in a row and there will be a lot of news articles in the media surrounding players like Darius Boyd and Anthony Milford, along with coach Anthony Seibold.

Yeah you got me. Despite the pleas of my fellow Bronco roarers telling me that my team is gonna turn it around, I have written them off since last season. With Bennett, I'd tip them without batting an eyelid against anyone but this past 2 years, they just look so lost out there

"If Bennett is dropping off the pace in defence, it’s likely he isn’t coaching his players, like some other ‘successful’ coaches, to defend from offside positions and count on the refs keeping their whistle in their pocket." Nailed it, mate

Sorry, my bad I hadn't noticed that they had won the last six games in a row and I assume they got that 59-0 the wrong way round ?

Nothing made up. It was my take on the press coverage at the time and statements/actions by Seibold. I might use a little poetic license in my choice of words sometimes just to get my meaning across but that is exactly what happened. If you have any doubts, I suggest you read some press coverage from that time.

The salary cap was introduced in 1990. Canberra breached it in 1991, and the Gold Coast and North Sydney both breached it a couple of years later

The Salary cap was only really brought into effect until 1998? In 1997 players were given massive deals to secure their services. The Broncos were a major force in the market in 1997 and basically the driver of Super League payments. The Bronco were also found to have breached the Salary cap in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006? In fact many club making the finals during that period were handed fines regularly for breaching the Cap. Broncos, Canterbury, Roosters and Storm were consistently found to be breaching the Cap between 1998 and 2002. The Warriors even had a bit of success on the field breaching the cap in the early days? If you believe the Broncos have been on the same financials as the bottom half of the Comp. during the early 2000's you are a little naive in my opinion. Andrew Gee's brown paper bags are the perfect example of a Broncos contracts.

Early days, but O'Brien looks alright. I'd take just about anyone over Siebold ATM. I'd even be happy with Paul Green, and his team aren't doing much!

 all us Bunnies fans ""told you so" Seibs was nothing special, he took over a very experienced Bunnies side that was decimated and ill coached by Madge. Seibs didn't do any miracles he just brought the Bunnies up to date and coached them appropriately, which all the Bunnies fans wanted! Its ironic how karma works, as what the Broncs did to Bennett was wrong and should have been more amicable, especially what Bennett did at the Broncs.

Bennett also won the Title the year before and the year before that and 4 years out of the previous 7 so that is a massively different scenario. Even with all that success Allan Langer himself ended up quitting after that start in 99. If Alf is prepared to fall on his sword just after the peak of his powers because of the team performance then Boyd should be doing the same.

My understanding is that he has a role at the Broncos next year as "mental welfare officer". Whatever that entails.

Recruitment ? They've recruited the best young talent in the game.

Again just coming up with rubbish. He never called him the second saviour, you've just created a rhetoric in you're head. He literally signed the bloke, that is all. You've completely just made this up. They needed help in the halves. They got croft to help Dearden. Pretty simple really

I will never understand how people stick up for Wayne in this. Wayne carried on like a spoilt brat. Just because he's a good coach doesn't mean he deserves to treat people however he likes. If you knew the man like I do you wouldn't be a fan. Absolute snake

Broncos supporters are so spoilt by the past in regards to their expectations. Bennett won titles because he had first pick of Queensland talent, was involved in Rep football selections ( promising youngsters the world) and money (salary cap) was never a factor. Obviously Bennett is a great motivator coping the Vince Lombardi play book of inspirational quotes but I personally have never rated him as a good tactical (Bellamy) or wonderful skill developing coach like (Bellamy, Sheens, Gibson). He a manger of the highest order. Salary cap, lack of influence in a rep coaching position have brought him back to regular status. Since the Salary Cap introduction he has shopped his services based on pre made squad talent and financial strength in the market to glorify his personal ego and bank account. Like I’ve said in a previous post “back in 1999 the Broncos were in a similar position under Bennett with a far stronger Squad? I wonder if Bennett would give Boyd and Milford the same advice he gave Langer in 1999 if he was still in charge? I wonder if Bennett has advised Boyd about looking after himself and stick it out now he’s somewhere else? I wonder if the same conversation are what he has had with Burgess and Inglis to those of Boyd? I’m not a Broncos fan but I certainly understand how frustrating it is watching your team doing it tough and young players struggling physically and mentally. This is tough on any supporter, but bagging players and baying for the coaches blood right now is not the answer and only destroying them more. Now is the time to rally around your club coach and young players IMO. I’d hate to be in the trenches with supporters who run and desert the team when wins are hard to come by. The young blokes are getting plenty of experience right now and motivation to get better. Remember 1999 and what happened in 2000.

Robo is a one club wonder, covered by good management and a few other things, some good, some not. His previous experience with coaching was uninspiring. There is a decent number of other coaches who would be just as successful with the back up and cattle he has. When Robo moves to another club with some real challenges and has success he can sit the halls of coaching Valhalla with the other greats.

Disagree that Bennett was rightly sacked. His success and status there deserved better treatment. People highlight the semi loss to Dragons in 2018 but forget that Dragons had a comp winning roster that year and were ahead of the pack midway. Their (Dragon) season second half falloff was more due to an incompetent coach than their lack of ability. Recall that they only lost the next game by 30 seconds after being heavily affected by injury. Bennett would have this current Bronco squad deep into finals and in at least 1 GF 2019/2020. If Bennett is dropping off the pace in defence, it's likely he isn't coaching his players, like some other 'successful' coaches, to defend from offside positions and count on the refs keeping their whistle in their pocket.
