Transfers that should happen this European summer

By Josh Ward / Roar Guru

After a heck of a season that went all the way into July due to a small virus, we’ve now finally hit the end of the domestic season and the start of the transfer window.

It looks set to be yet another humongous one, with transfer rumours hitting us left, right and centre. Here are four transfers I think that should happen.

Jadon Sancho: Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United
The man from London, who knew Reiss Nelson and was an eager Chelsea supporter growing up, Sancho has been playing in the Bundesliga the past three seasons following a transferring there from Manchester City’s youth squad.

After a development-focused first season, he’s become a superstar the past two seasons, scoring 33 goals and assisting 39 across all competitions, including 20 goals and 20 assists this season. However, some rumours claim Sancho’s ready for the next step, with United knocking heavily on Dortmund’s door.

This could be a long saga though, with United only willing to pay up to £100 million – not the requested £110 million – and already having a first bid of £89 million rejected.

It is a little below what Dortmund values him at, but transfermarkt.com does value him at roughly £105.3 million. We’ll see if Dortmund decide to give up or if United will have yet another long summer ahead.

Kai Havertz: Bayer 04 Leverkusen to Chelsea
In what looks like a ‘when’ rather than a ‘should’, Havertz is another young German talent who could move to the west of London after an incredible four seasons in Leverkusen.

With incredible agility and dribbling, almost Mesut Özil like, he just improves season by season as well, scoring 45 goals in total and assisting 31 the past four seasons. He’s also the top scorer in both the league and all competitions for Bayer 04 this season, hitting 17 goals in total.

While Leverkusen value him at around £90 million pounds, Sky Sports has reported that a deal of £70 million with add-ons could potentially be the go. Transfermarkt.com also value him at £72.9 million. If they do agree to a fee somewhere in that region, Havertz would make Chelsea’s attack even more lethal.

Jack Grealish: Aston Villa to Manchester United
Another potentially big transfer to Man United, Grealish, who ensured Villa’s survival on Monday morning, has been the star of the show over at Villa Park ever since their original relegation back in 2016.

With great technical ability and a good eye for the spectacular, he helped Villa improve in the Championship over time while also improving his own game gradually, scoring 24 goals and assisting 27, including ten goals and eight assists in all competitions this season.

Sports opinion delivered daily

While it hasn’t been rumoured what United value him at, Villa, after staying up, are rumoured to have set a hefty fee of £80 million. Transfermarkt.com value him at only £27.45 million, but I think he’s worth a lot more than that. We will see if this deal does happen, but should most likely though. If so, a handy inclusion for the Red Devils squad.

Ferran Torres: Valencia to Manchester City
Could we see another young Valencian come to City? It looks likely Torres will get a move to Man City, with the Citizens identifying him as their Leroy Sané replacement after his move back to the Bayern Munich.

A traditional Spanish winner who has great agility, speed and a high work-rate, he can play on either wing or doesn’t mind cutting in as well. A breakthrough this last season, he scored six goals while assisting eight in all competitions, playing 44 of a possible 50 games.

With both teams in talks of a deal between £27 million and £36 million plus add-ons, it could be done pretty soon, with transfermarkt.com also valuing him at £40.5 million. Would be a pretty good Sané replacement for City.

Look I agree with you that it’s getting dull with players being sold constantly, off the top of your head , how many villa players are from the West Midlands? I see another brummie Jude Bellingham is leaving blues for Borussia Dortmund only at age 17.

Torres I could see joining Valencia, they could use a young, fast, skillful winger like him with Sane leaving (not that they need any more attacking player honestly) but still likely

Grealish too, Villa want over 80 mil for him, I don't see United paying that much for him

Sancho could be less likely with emergence of Greenwood, massive price tag with COVID, etc.

I actually think he’s a good chance to stay. He’d only leave for CL football and realistically which of the top 4 does he get into their starting lineup? Chelsea have too many similar players. He’d be wasted by Klopp and he’s not a Guardiola type player even if didn’t have depth. He’d probably be more likely to play his natural game at Utd, but how much playing time would he get? I can see them making a mediocre offer, Villa reject it. And someone picks him up in Jan or next summer.

As usual, my club Aston Villa is just a feeder club. People whinge about being teams being bought up by rich overseas owners. Imagine having your team's best player taken away nearly every year for 2 decades. Yeah... I would love to have rich owners buy us.
