The AFL has released the 40-man squad for the ceremonial team which will be announced on Thursday.

Table-toppers Port have ex-captain Travis Boak, Zak Butters, Darcy Byrne-Jones, Charlie Dixon and Tom Jonas in the squad.

Second-year utility Butters is among 24 players in contention for their first All Australian selection.

Just the general tone of your comment I suppose? It sounded defensive, or at the least condescending. But it's hard to convey tone/meaning when reading text. So in saying that, my apologies for the accusation, as given your reaction I can only assume it to be untrue.

I tipped the blues to finish pretty much where they finished

Tim Kelly has been better than Martin this year and he hasn't set the world on fire.

I tipped Port for the top 4, we all wear our own clubs coloured glasses somewhat lol

I'm not sure I've seen him beaten this year, plays small and tall, stops the superstar mids when they go forward. He's unfashionable though, so will probably miss. I'm hoping he, Boak and DBJ get the nod, Charlie is a lock I reckon.

Nah, pretty sure Walsh won the coach's association award, not the player's association award.

The one 4 weeks ago was fan voted. Was this the same or different? It does explain where eastern staters look when watching footy.

Certainly right about King. Naughton is a gem. Oscar Allen is a must in the best 22.

I wouldn't worry about the 22under22 team; it was fan-voted. He won the AFLPA best youngster award though, which is a much better honour when it's designated by his own peers.

Harry McKay averaged more disposals, marks and goals per game than Naughton and King - bit stiff to miss for mine.

Many rave about him now Don, I was the only one before the season started saying he would make the 40 man squad.

Right, and why was Oscar Allen overlooked for Naughton and King?

Yep, should be in the 40. Hard to fit them all in but I think he's been amongst the best all year. Who do you leave out to put Balta in?

Whilst I'm a WCE member, I had never rated Gaff that highly. Thinking his possessions were cheap and ineffective. However, I purposely watched him during one game at Optus earlier in the year and realised how important he is to the Eagles. One minute he was an extra man in the backline - receiving a handball in the goal square to clear the ball. The next minute he offloaded a handball to set up a goal. He rarely comes off the ground - freeing up rotations for other players. If an opposing club wants to tag him, they would need two players as I can't think of another AFL player who has the running credentials to stay with him.
