Brisbane Broncos get the wooden spoon

By The King of the World / Roar Guru

After losing 32-16 against their arch-rivals North Queensland, Brisbane has finally secured their first wooden spoon.

Considering they’re one of the most powerful clubs in the business, many are wondering just how this happened.

I believe a lot of off-field drama would have to be a factor but if we run over the gauntlet from 2014-2019, they lost their fair share of talent.

Anthony Seibold copped a lot of shit this year and guess who the coach was before him, Wayne Bennett. I did tell you all when Old Man Bennett comes to town, he’s bringing the damn shovel to bury your team. Well, Brisbane, your beloved Broncos have now been buried.

Now, Brisbane Broncos aren’t anywhere near as bad as Newcastle were after Bennett left them, thank goodness, but they’ll be needing a massive cleanout as well.

It’s unfamiliar territory for them, the rebuilding process. You can talk to us Knights supporters about it, we have to go through almost 15 years of it but we pulled through.

When it comes down to the Brisbane Broncos, I don’t know what the future holds but I strongly believe the worst is yet to come. I can be wrong but it’s just what I believe based on all the drama they went through.

Winning their first wooden spoon isn’t a thing to be proud of. Winning the wooden spoon is just like winning the game of chicken, you may have won something but at the end of the day, you’re still getting hit by a car.

What’s next for Brisbane? I don’t know. What I do know is that they’re in for the long haul and their fan-base doesn’t have the passion of the Newcastle Knights, who stood by their team after seeing them win only one game in 2016, lose 19 in a row, concede 800 points that year and get hammered 62-0 at home.

I urge the Broncos supporters to stick by their team because you can cheer like nuts for them when they’re on top of the world but your mentality and passion for your team will truly be tested on their darkest times.

You could build a casino inside a KFC with all those chips. I didn't hear anyone complaining when he almost got them to the gf. It wasn't him going broke and not paying anyone.

Fair dinkum, Wayne Bennett again? You could could a palace from all the chips of the shoulders of collective knights fans. He's the best coach Newcastle have had in 20yrs but you hold '3 spoons' Brown up as some kind of savior.

We all most got it a couple of years back but to miss out during the Northern Beagles era and soon after was pretty hard to take.

Don't give up hope. Manly could very well do it next year.

Manly and Glebe are still spoonless still although Glebe has a higher winning percentage than the Eagles.

Today is a great day. Perhaps what let the Broncos down was not playing every friday night, or all those third party agreements in a one team city, or an over inflated sense of entitlement, or the lack of Alfie on the field all the time coaching them. But I am happy.

Watching Webcke and Gilly on the news last night saying it was imperative that the Broncos not get the spoon. Alex Glenn will go down in history as the Captain of the worst Broncos team in history and the first Broncos team to get the wooden spoon, something to tell his grandkids.
