Western Sydney Wanderers sign James Troisi to two-year deal

By News / Wire

Less than a day after terminating his contract with Adelaide United, James Troisi’s two-year deal to join Western Sydney Wanderers was announced.

The Reds reluctantly released Troisi from the remainder of his contract on Monday – just two weeks out from the start of the A-League campaign.

Troisi has now linked up with new Wanderers boss Carl Robinson – who previously tried to sign him when he headed up MLS team Vancouver Whitecaps – on a two-season deal.

“I’ve known Carl since 2015 when he tried to sign me at Vancouver, we’ve kept in touch and we have a very close relationship,” Troisi said in a statement.

“Carl is a fantastic person and we’ve seen in a short time already what he is able to do in this league.

“I am coming to the club to be successful and I want to win another title with this club.

“The ambition of the club is high, from everyone I have spoken to, and it’s something I want to be involved in.”

Troisi joined Adelaide on a two-year deal last October and made 13 A-League appearances for the Reds last season.

However, he didn’t feature when the league resumed after the coronavirus break due to knee surgery.

100% agree, if he wasn’t the so called ‘prodigal son’ returning home since his teens he wouldn’t have been given so much leeway from the locals. To be paid that much with his injury record and performances over the the past few years was a joke. We got absolutely fleeced (which deep down i had a feeling would happen) but i wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt due to coming home.

Adelaide fans were willing to give him a chance simply because he is South Australian. South Australians are delightfully, if somewhat niavely, parochial. By the same measure there are some fantastic kids coming through who were possibly being held back by his presence. They now have the opportunity of quality game time. In the end Reds fans are not entirely happy to see him go as more is expected of the veteran locals. On balance though, the squad is stronger with his departure.

Adelaide may sign Amini to replace Troisi. That in my view is an upgrade.

Ha. Very Troisi-like. Has he ever completed a full contract? Two years at WSW. I give him six months and he'll be gone from there. Just glad he knocked us back for Victory a couple of years back. Clown, who I would'nt bother dealing with.

Didn't he play a couple of pre-season games? Has he done his knee again?

Depends if AU said he would be predominantly a bench player this season then can't blame him at his age
