The BBL team of the tournament has been announced, but it's missing some big names

Chris Lynn and Tanveer Sangha have both been overlooked for the official Big Bash team of the tournament, which was announced by the league on Thursday morning.

The team, which is voted on by the coaches of the eight teams, features an opening partnership of Alex Hales and Josh Philippe – the competition’s two leading run-scorers – with Ben McDermott at three, Colin Munro at four and Glenn Maxwell at five. The top four were all unanimous selections by the coaches, as was fast bowler Jhye Richardson.

That leaves Brisbane captain Lynn out of the side, even though his 420 runs left him behind only Hales and Philippe in the top-scorers chart, and his strike-rate of 157 was good enough for sixth in the comp. He was ahead of all of McDermott, Munro and Maxwell on both measures.

Dan Christian, whose big hitting late in innings was a key factor in the Sydney Sixers finishing on top of the ladder, comes in at six, with Richardson joined by Rashid Khan, Mark Steketee, Adam Zampa and Wes Agar in the bowling attack.

Much like Lynn’s omission, Tanveer Sangha missing out on the side has raised some eyebrows. The leg-spinner, playing in his first season, finished the regular season with the third-most wickets (21) en route to earning selection in Australia’s T20 squad to tour New Zealand.

Daniel Sams of the Thunder and Marcus Stoinis of the Stars round out the 13-player squad, leaving the Melbourne side with the most representatives in the team of the tournament with three – even though they missed the finals.

The top two of the Sixers and Scorchers both had a pair of players selected, as did fellow finalists the Thunder, Strikers and Heat. McDermott was Hobart’s lone representative, while wooden-spooners the Renegades unsurprisingly didn’t have anyone make the team.

Seems like a fair enough team. Rashid Khan is the most wanted T20 player in the World so picking the new boy in front of him because he took a couple more wickets is only good for a comment column. Chris Lynn is a burden in the field so needs to win several games off his bat to get in any team. Smarter teams seem to have his number now. He can't dominate spin bowling. He has been epic but I think that is past now.

Those non star Star players living off reputations. Lynn for Maxwell, Sanga for Zampa & Maxwell can be an X Factor. Funny how the Stars have so many top players yet still only got one more win this season than the Renegades. Karma for Cricket Victoria's little pets?

Maybe it’s because of his all round efforts.

Never understood why Munro didn’t get to play many tests for the kiwis. Averages 51 in first class cricket with a very high strike rate

surprising he made the side in general really. He's had as many ducks as big scores

Sams is unfortunate to not make the starting side. Probably due to concussion and hand injury keeping him out for multiple games.

Surprising that Maxwell made it ahead of the likes of Lynn and Carey.

G'day John. Last year was the first time there was an official team of the tournament. This was the official BBL09 TOTT: Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Matthew Wade, Glenn Maxwell (c), Jono Wells, Mitch Marsh, Tom Curran, Rashid Khan, Daniel Sams, Peter Siddle, Haris Rauf So Maxwell and Rashid the only two to make the best XI both years, with Stoinis and Sams picked in last year's team and as the x-factor players this season.

Good morning Daniel. Assuming the BBL Team of the season has been done in previous seasons, would you possibly have access to past years as I’m wondering if any players have featured on multiple occasions?
