Wallabies DIY player ratings from Bledisloe 2: The results

By The Roar / Editor

The second Bledisloe Test was a disaster for the Wallabies. Most of the goodwill they generated from a competitive effort the previous weekend went out the window in a 57-22 debacle at Eden Park.

So, we bravely put the player ratings in your hands once more. Here’s how you saw Bledisloe Game 2.

There were two standouts on an otherwise bleak night: skipper Michael Hooper and scrumhalf Tate McDermott.

They were the only two Wallabies to finish with an average score above seven.

Will Genia said Tate McDermott could wear the number 9 jersey for ten years in his exclusive column for The Roar.

Understand about what you say about Kerevi but our incumbents of Noah Hunter, Toomua and Lenny haven't been bathed in glory so fit Samu in somewhere

Don’t like to judge players but Bpa is bad not only because he can’t throw straight but because he gets into unnecessary power struggle in the rucks(he’s not alone), is clumsy and not present. His lapse of focus led to ab try few minutes later. Wallabies need better front row.. where to find them? :unhappy Also Paisami he was invisible, aside from 1 mistake and one poor effort at chasing which led to that LO where bpa was sleeping… I wish Perese would be given a chance. I have no idea if he would be better but I think he’s sharper in attack than Paisami

I'd be a little doubtful about Kerevi. Class player, but he's just come off a 7s campaign. That's not normally conducive to jumping straight into 15s. Sadly, JOC seems unlikely to be fit. But fingers crossed.

you need skill and brains to play Attack, Attack,Attack. This has been lacking for 20+ years, thanks to the terrible grass roots coaching structures. Read up on LVL 1 coaching by RA.

My faith in Andrew Kelloway as a potentially outstanding Wallaby remains intact when I wrote about his first game for the Waratahs years ago.

First of all the mindset and selection needs to change to focus on defence and acknowledge that the wallabies strength is not in the backs but the forwards and have a mainly forward based game plan, forget this going wide and running rugby , instead attack based on turnovers and counterattack and opportunities. Keep it tight If at the end of the game you are chasing then you need to open up and have players on the bench to do this. Assuming players are fit. Also restricted to the squad DR has Also I am focusing on winning the game not developing players. 01 Slipper 02 BPA 03 AAA 04 Philip 05 Rodda 06 Valetini 07 Hooper 08 Naisarani 09 White (don’t care if he only lasts 30 mins, he still starts) 10 JoC 11 Koroibete 12 Kerevi 13 Ikitau 14 Kellaway 15 Hodge 16 Uelese 17 Bell 18 TT 19 LSL 20 Swinton 21 McDermott 22 QC less risky than NL and has a lot better vision and kicking game 23 Petaia (if game is close at the end I probably would not put him on) Since the focus is on game management, tactical kicking, and forward based these are not in NL’s wheelhouse and no point developing him here since other 10’s are already stronger in those areas. Wilson has under performed and he is better out wide and I want a tighter game so no place for him. A close call between Swinton and Naisarani on who starts , could easily be the otehr way around.

Peter, I value your opinions generally  What changes would you make for Bled 3 ?

True. I wouldn't call the match a debacle either. Australia has played worse for less cruelling scorelines.

Exactly. McDermott is an attacking threat around scrum base close to opposition line but his defence is awful.

Not having a dig here,in my opinion Australian rugby most always had fast and attacking backlines who had a crack from anywhere and in my humble opinion that's what put the opposition on alert. Australian forwards did not provide the front foot ball regularly enough, yet with scrappy ball the backs did have was enough for the likes of Tim Horan and co to finish off. By the way Tim Horan best 12,13 this world has ever seen. My Dad would say if you had a ABS forward pack and Australian backing there would be no one to touch them. My advice Roar readers , go back to how Australians play, Attack, attack, attack and make my countrymen NZ tackle tackle, tackle.

No need to be sorry lilzot, we’re all entitled to our opinions. I don’t accept Harrison has a “slow brain”. Perhaps playing in a team that gets thumped each week makes it look that way. Paisami seems relatively one dimensional to me and he seems to turn over possession all to regularly. The Wallabies need to try something different.

Sorry Backrower, Harrison has a slow brain, he needed time in SR to make good decisions - he will have less time in an All Black test. Give him another year to develop. Keep Paisami, he is much better than most in this forum believe.

Wright is quality - yes, he was poor against France but we’ve seen enough in him to suggest he can lock in a wing spot. Lolesio has to be given time. He was ok against the French and then, surprise surprise, people think he was poor against the ABs at Eden Park. Is that the test of new players coming thru? If so, no-one will pass. Jury is out on whether he is long term answer but who, presently is? I’m not a fan of JOC at 10.

Yes re Harrison. Gives you 2 play maker options and left/right kicking. Harrison can tackle too. Our current options are stodgy. Harrison brought down by being in a poor Tahs team, would like to see him play with better players around him. What we’re doing now isn’t working. Of course, I’m relying on a good coaching unit to develop this young back line into something.

Wright? What? Tupou should start. Lolesio is not a test player yet. Can't believe Sio was in the last 23 ahead of Bell.
