Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury says he is open to offers from rival AFL clubs as he weighs up a one-year contract offer from the Magpies.
The 33-year-old midfielder has his sights set on a move into coaching once his playing days are over and would consider switching clubs if a deal included a coaching component.
“I do have ambitions to coach, I’ve said that, and I think I’ve said I’d like to step away from this football club and get some experience elsewhere,” Pendlebury said on Triple M.
“Ever since I was 17, all I’ve known is this football club.
“But I’ve been on record saying I really do want to be a one-club player.
“Hopefully we nut something out soon … but if they want to offer me future coaching gigs for a couple of years’ time, I’ll have a look at it.”
Such an agreement would be similar to the one that saw Hawthorn premiership hero Sam Mitchell finish his playing career at West Coast before joining the Eagles’ coaching staff under Adam Simpson.
Pendlebury has played 334 games for Collingwood in a decorated career that has seen him win five best-and-fairest awards and six All-Australian selections.
The 2010 premiership star has been club captain since taking over from Nick Maxwell in 2014.
The Magpies are in a state of flux as they continue the search for a new senior coach after parting ways with Nathan Buckley in June.
The club’s board, led by president Mark Korda, is under pressure amid a looming challenge from aspiring president Jeff Browne.

Carltons everyone’s choice for players atm but I think their list is near set. Pendlebury is good enough to play for anyone.

Michael Voss at Port for one more year and Port pick up Pendlebury on a one year contract with coaching after? hmm

I don't get the idea that when someone answers a question directly, with honesty, that it is a problem for people. Have we become so conditioned by mediaspeak that we demand deflection, circumlocution or direct untruth?

Yea true mate got heap of respect for him as a person & player & your spot on it would have been a tough caper as captain dealing with such a massive fall from grace! Damn can’t really imagine how he would respond under those circumstances! Only a big club like the Pies will be able to get out of Jail card a smaller club may have imploded.
Imagine as captain watching and consoling two young talented players being traded against their wishes. There is an odour of bad faith around Collingwood now which is ultimately MacGuire's legacy.

It’s not just his laziness at training though Dan, it’s an inability to play through minor injuries. Been at the Pies 6 years now? All that investment in a Bloke who seems happy in the two’s

Dan not having a go at his future choices mate to further his career elsewhere , l was basing his press conference on his choices as a Captain of a AFL club & as a Captain its the highest honour bestowed on an individual sportsperson and certain behaviour & ethics are essential for the club you represent. From the youngest to the most senior. He left the door ajar for clubs to come calling with his badge of honour as Captain of Collingwood Football Club front & centre and that and that alone is what irks me nothing else! I’m happy for his future endeavours it was just done in poor taste but hey that’s how l feel got full respect for him as a person and as a footballer but that was a blip on his character!

Lol - he’s staying. We’re not Carlton!
Sier would be a good acquisition at 23 years of age. The question is could a different coach get him to improve his work ethic and buy into the club ethos?
Put this in the perspective of being a husband and a father and considering his long term well being. Collingwood is in a very bad place now, gripped in chaos and waiting on a Supreme Court decision to decide its future. Anyone wanting security would be looking around. I think Pendlebury would be making an astute long term decision if he chose to move elsewhere. He has given us wonderful services and owes Collingwood nothing.

I heard Sier, Lynch and even Maynard are open to chatting to the Hawks.

Not unusual for older players to get 1 year contracts, even being club legends.Up to them if they want more security going forward with longer deals and are willing to change clubs.Have no problem with it,think Robbie gray has been on 1 year deals for a couple of years I think,

Haha maybe three years. Will he last that long ? Maybe he would be a good mentor/teacher for some of our mids. Don’t really like bringing in older players that won’t be around long enough to contend for a premiership. Did we get anything from having Betts the last two years ? I don’t know. We don’t generally have a good history when it comes to taking ex’s from the Pies.
