VOTE: Wallabies player ratings from first Test vs Argentina

By The Roar / Editor

The wins just keep coming for the Wallabies, backing up a pair of wins over the Springboks with a comfortable, if not clinical, 27-8 victory over Argentina.

Who was best afield, and who faces a nervous week at the selection table? It’s your chance to make the calls.

Over to you: you can rate each Wallabies player from one to ten in the form below. You don’t have to rate every player – if you didn’t catch enough of someone’s performance or don’t think they were on the field long enough for you to make a judgment, just leave them blank and it won’t affect their score.

If you need a rough guide as to what each score means, here’s what we go off.

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God John Eales have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a match of such importance.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good.
7. Pretty good, actually.
8. Very good.
9. Excellent.
10. Extraordinary. Calling them man of the match would be an insult.

Whether you loved Samu Kerevi’s game, want to show Michael Hooper some well-deserved love or put a rocket up a player you think needs to lift, it’s all up to you.

Ready to go? Head onto the form below and get cracking!

Haha. Tate certainly has some improvement left in him. Maybe Jake is due another run to keep young Tate honest. Competition between White, Gordon and McDermott is good.

I wasn't that impressed with Kalani in Super Rugby. I think he's still a few years off and as we have seen with Lolesio some players never make it at the next level. Not saying he hasn't a bright future, but it would be fool hardy to start measuring him up for a Wallabies jersey right now. He still has a long way to go to challenge McDermott for the starting spot at the Reds.

Where did I call him a goose? If he wants to succeed at test Rugby he has to hone his skills to be test level. As I have said before, he will have enough on his plate to hold his state side position vs Kalani

Apparently South Africa played a game that exposed their weaknesses and this wasn't very fair and totally unsportsmanlike.

I'd forgotten completely about Gordon

I've no issue with White being first choice but this doesn't automatically make McDermott a goose.

Hi Brian, I have always been a fan of Quade’s but not so one eyed as to be blind to his previous faults. I have been very impressed with how he has managed the game, kicked and his improved defence since returning to the WBs. At present he is our best ring master but without the legs to make the breaks. JOC a good backup and to bring in against a tired defence though NL is the future and must be developed together with at least another couple of prospects to provide the depth for the future. Cheers.

I used the most recent, and only example from the weekend. If he kicked more against argentina I would've included that too. You have only brought up one Ioane non-tackle. He used to play Aus 7s, defence gets found out pretty quick there. What about his try saver in-goal against SA 2 weeks ago?

Just a small thing for note re Rennie, was that White was coming back off injury. Not so much as mcdermott being first choice but weaning White back to match fitness

It is always great to highlight the one thing he did good. Please look at the non tackle on Ioane. A good box kick vs running away in defence? As I stated earlier, his biggest fight will not be with Nick White or Jake Gordon, but with Kalani

He clearly has shown to be up to international standard as he has been one of the best on the park in multiple matches playing the ABs. He certainly does have plenty to work on and is far from the complete player, but to think that he should go back to club level is just ridiculous hyperbole. The one box kick he did put up on the weekend was perfectly weighted and led to a turnover.

Thats why I suggest that mcdermott head back to club and get the practice. You cannot have a halfback that runs around in a full 360 and then put the ball out for no gain. See new zealand test for reference. As far as Quade Cooper is going... Its not broken so why fix it? I have an underlying feeling that Quade is holding both bowers in his hand at the moment. He just hasn't had to lay them down yet

I beg to differ. I don't look at him through red/rose coloured glasses. His L to R pass game is not of international standard. His kicking game too. His defensive abilities against new zealand were found to be wanting, so much so, that he actually stepped away from Ioane rather than tackle him. Don't come out with "Well you tackle him..." I don't have my capabilities confused. If he gives a half sniff to Kalani who may go on the Spring tour TBC, he will find himself at SR bench/club

I like hodge. He's a great player. I think with time perhaps he'll improve in the position. Currently he's on par with banks. His speed is my concern.

I believe you were pumping up Jake Gordon tyres and then he got a flat after a few woeful performances. Rennie rightly drop kicked him out of the 23.

don't let the truth get in the way. I don't want Gordon in there. Both White and McDermott are better and McDermott has a higher ceiling. The halfback I think has been hard done by (forgotten) is Powell.

Stick to Abs games. Stop pointing your kiwi beak in here. Just my personal opinion though.
