VOTE: Wallabies DIY player ratings vs England

By The Roar / Editor

The Wallabies have lost a second Test in a row as their Spring Tour turns sour, a 32-15 defeat at the hands of England making it eight in a row against former coach Eddie Jones.

If you stayed up late, or got up early, to watch the effort from Twickenham, then what better way to vent than by giving each of the Wallabies’ 23 a score for their performance.

If you’re after a rough guide as to what each number means, here’s what we usually go by:

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God John Eales have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a match of such importance.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good.
7. Pretty good, actually.
8. Very good.
9. Excellent.
10. Extraordinary. Calling them man of the match would be an insult.

Does Kurtley Beale get a pass mark for an error-riddled night? Did James O’Connor’s penalty success overshadow the rest of his match? And did Ollie Hoskins do enough in his brief run on debut to get a ranking? These are all questions you’ll have to answer yourselves.

Ready to go? Head to the form below, make your calls and don’t forget to hit submit!

"His body of work ..." Body of work? The rugby vernacular widens even further, to a sophisticated plane now :stoked: - Lazybones' meagre contribution is referred to as one would to the efforts of a ballet dancer or a Shakespearean actor or a Hollywood super hero??? Spare me!

Yeah, I think daugunu should start ahead of Wright. Lolesio should get a start too. JOC is so deep he makes the backline ineffectual. Beale should have played his last game. I thought he might be serviceable but he’s barely that anymore. Skelton hasn’t done much of anything to warrant the bench. Philip or Swain on the bench. Kerevi should be offered the highest contract in RA history and offered the captaincy to lure him back. The kitchen sink, the lot. Whatever it takes.

You’re wrong. His body of work in the last 5 years shows he clearly has improved his fitness and his skills. He’s not been great the last two weeks but you’re looking through one eye if you think he’s been poor.

Will Skelton has not improved his game whatsoever. We can all see it. I said it weeks ago it would be a massive mistake bringing in a lazy slow unfit low workrate lock who cannot jump in lineouts .I was right Blokes were saying "oh now we dont have Kerevi we have Bill Willy to make the 200 metre carries and offloads Samu did" Kerevi is the best 12 in the world at the moment.Skelton wouldn't get a game with any other top ten team.

Valentini was far better than Hooper. Leota and Valetini did all the backrow work. Hooper was poor again as usual.Thats a 49 % career win rate now for Hooper. Totally unacceptable.Time for another 7 to be given a fair shot.

That may be a fair point; these guys needed to be a big step up to justify the possible fallout you refer to. And he hasn’t been that.

We already had “ok” blokes. Why p.ss off the loyal lads and bring back a Skelton. There is just no up side. It’s amusing that many posters think that because a player is contracted overseas, then he must be better than the local lads. The only lads that probably fit that are Arnold, Kerevi and Cooper.

im thinking most kiwis are ok about the our loss to a rampant intense Irish side that did there homework and had the game plan or rwo. Thoroughly deserved im a little Irish. A lot of kiwis on the Roar can see the blunders with wallaby selections . It would be better wallabys loose using the fringe players rebuilding than going with the rot that are holding up these guys comming through take of the blinkers and excuses. Allblack supporters want wallabys nailing it there is no question. 5 on the trot omg means stuff all. Hooper needs to be playing half a game from now in or going backwards not bringing on guys at a great rate of knots. No faith of a wallaby win next test. Please do not expect I should Cheers

He was OK. Not great but not as bad as you’d like to think

we had very little possession because JoC kept kicking it away , even when attacking in their half.

agree with Rodda, Paisami and Valetini. I also added White and Hooper. White's only real mistake was the penalty he gave away. He was magnificent in saving that try and his kicking unlike JoC's was accurate and well placed, his passing fast and accurate, McDermott's was poor again, he has regressed.

Overall, Skelton has been poor in both matches. For those that called loudly for his return, give yourself an uppercut. Swain and Phillip would both have shown more “ticker” than big Willie. Very disappointing.

true- I think the coaches also really wanted him to work on his kicking game- can't remember from SR if he did but so far haven't seen him kick as much- partly due to the fact he's barely getting the ball and when he does he's prone to the poor decision

Except for Valentini, I agree. I like him a lot but thought he was quieter than he has been of late

I think Paisami is a strong defensive option at 12 but not convinced he brings much attacking nous

True- think stifling of possession is a big combination of some questionable breakdown calls, poor kicking and poor execution at what has been an improving scrum and line out for the Aussies if you think about the 57-22 drubbing. Paisami gets a lot of unfair stick for someone who nails people much bigger than him and is so committed in contact. Going forward doesn't help with JOC not giving him quality ball.
