Wallabies DIY player ratings from the England Test: The results

By The Roar / Editor

With the Wallabies enduring their second straight loss – this time at the hands of England – it was difficult for our readers to find too many positives.

Rob Valetini and Michael Hooper were the only players to average more than 6 in our DIY player ratings voted on by you.

Debutant Ollie Hoskins received a pass mark with his 13 minutes on the field at the end of the game.

But veteran Kurtley Beale couldn’t rediscover his form of yesteryear. He started the game at fullback and conceded two turnovers and missed a tackle.
He struggled to make an impact in attack and according to almost a quarter of Roar readers, he was lucky to get an average rating above 2.

The Wallabies will have it all to do in their final Spring Tour game against Wales with captain Michael Hooper ruled out of the game.

Who will step up for the Wallabies to try and finish the Tour on a high after a disappointing result?

Seriously, who gave Skelton a score over one? He was less than anonymous. Scrum went to poo. Lineout went to poo. Score line blew out while he was on. No metres gained. Any tackles? Any contribution at alll???

Kurtley did drop an awful pass from Paisami (I think), way over his head and at full speed. I need to mention that forcompleteness. He actually made a couple of half-breaks too though.

Caught most of the high balls that went his way, defended that would-be corner try very well early, made few mistakes - no shockers. He was okay. About the same standard as the other outside backs for that match. I wouldn't have picked him, but he was okay

Ferrett if you think this EOYT was a tragedy wait till next year when Rennie and co go backwards further as they select Skelton, Robertson, Hooper Hanigan, Harrison Donaldson, Beale, Swinton, Latu Gordon, Bell, Perese and Foketi for Wallaby tests. What they really need to do is throw every bit of money $$$ they have at Quade Kerevi and Marika. If they have to cut 6 or 7 players to accomodate those 3, so be it. They must do it ASAP because as we`ve seen those 3 players cannot be replaced. Every other player can be replaced. To even have a chance at Semi Finals at RWC 2023 you need those 3 players.

Angus menkens? never heard of you before, are you a made up profile just to stick up for your favourite player on earthy anonymously.? I know it would be really embarrassing to type that nonsense under your real name as it would make you look foolish. Anyway , Hooper is just a token Southern Hemisphere nomination as he played every game in 2021, but was never a standout in any. The Frenchman or Pom will win it. I would have gone for Eben or Ardie personally. For the Wallaby record, QC is far more deserving of a nomination as he is 5 from 5 and played dominant role in all those 5 wins. Since he left, they have slumped to a 5th ranked team under the poor captain and number 7 Hooper. That is a fact.

Are you serious? Hopper, potential player or the year. Has been strong his whole career and since returning from Japan is honestly one of the best flankers in the world. Pull your head out of the sand. If you are so wise, what flankers would you have and captain.

Skelton Beale Latu Bell Hooper and Robertson. Way too many Tahs or ex Tahs in the Wallabies. Not one of the above deserve to be there.

Just watched it again, sober. KB threw that horror pass over Hooper and missed Steward when anybody would have but otherwise caught every high ball and made every tackle. He didn’t bring anything in attack but who did? He was a classic 5. Solid performance in a side who underperformed. Way short of the worst on the field

Paisami was throwing the pass to Wright. Kurtley had no awareness and stuck his hands in the way.

I don’t think he ever showed he can be a general. He showed he can kick goals, celebrate a scrum penalty, kick and hope to a winger when hot on attack, leave the final play to someone else, and stand in the pocket and shuffle the ball along. But the Wallaby coaches most likely have the whole backline really deep at training basically standing still practicing how they want to play, it is the only explanation of why they are playing that way. If his experience is so important where was it in the last 2 games? Where was the experience from KB? And I’m not suggesting NL needs White to hold his hand, I’m suggesting judging NL on his form against the All Blacks with a different half back isn’t the same as comparing his form against the All Blacks with White at 9. There is a reason White has taken over at 9 for the last 7 games (5 wins 2 loses, both loses with JOC at 10…)

He may need to be rested for a year he is always injured. I don’t think he could play to full games inrow.

The point is that JOC has experience, is calm & showed in SR he can be a general. This is important with a backline of newbies. Noah has shown that he is none of the above yet. I agree with you that White is needed to hold his hand when he does play.

Sorry I should have explained that better. And look I have no issues in people disagreeing with me, this is after all a site for opinions more than facts. I meant White's delivery to JOC has been poor, maybe poor is a bit harsh but it certainly hasn't been good. Other parts of White's game was good, like that tackle and most of his kicks.

Thats probably a better argument than he didn't do a lot wrong. From all reports there was a lot going on outside of his control that affected his game. Too often people apply blame without taking anything other than that single players actions. The best example I have is the famous NL bomb in his own 22. No one and I mean no one on here (apart from myself) commented on the crap pass he got which put him under pressure.

How many tahs started against England? If both our TH props were fit Bell would’ve been on the bench too.

Your comments may have me re-watch, but my main memories of Beale under the high ball were the amount of times that despite catching it, he was immediately swamped and driven into touch or back 5-10 metres, because he is incapable of catching it unless completely flat footed.
