Thomas played pretty well, but the improvement in passing when Werchon came on was noticeable. It was a shame that the backline was a bit of a shambles by then. Great debut from Werchon, didn’t try too much, just did the basics really well. It’s really easy for young players on debut to try to stand out in limited minutes.

'Like a Scud missile': World Cup reject leads rout, but Reds suffer fresh blow with Petaia's season in jeopardy

The best way to measure the fixture advantage is to look at the teams that have made the Grand Final this century. 23 Grand Finals, 46 possible spots, 19 from non Victorian teams. Once you factor in the joining dates of GWS and the Suns, it is damn near exactly on track.

Six Points: Clutch kings do it again, footy's dirtiest player, and debunking 'Vic-centric' fixture myth

Nice to see the Dees are flying under the radar. Just like we like it.

There is no doubt that he was flogged in his last playing year at Queensland. But he spent last year in rehab, so he should be pretty rested now.
I’m a fan of Tupuo. I sincerely believe he could be the best tighthead in the world if we can keep him fit and developing. I hated watching him in the last 25 minutes of Reds matches when he played 80, (it might have been my imagination, but) I swear you could see him casting longing glances at the bench. Thorn’s only defence was that he had very little to call on, but that was no excuse to cook your golden goose.

'He'd been flogged to death': Rebels GM's scathing Tupou claim as Wallaby battles to reignite his fire

The thing that amazes me about Wright and all the ‘bracing’ precedents… if you are going to crash into something, the natural reaction is to stick your arms out to break the fall. Nobody who is falling down the stairs curls up into a ball and drops their shoulder. This is a learned reaction. So unlearn it? Or am I completely off beam?

Six Points: Papley's hypocrisy, Wright's Tribunal verdict the wrong call, and why are we retiring Pendlebury?

Yep, agree. He is out of sorts now, and that may well be the dislocation of leaving the Reds system and Brisbane after 8+ years. Going to the UK isn’t likely to fix that!

'Such an emotional guy': Why RA should let their biggest star leave for the sake of the Wallabies

The Will Skelton parallel isn’t encouraging. Leaves Australia as a player with fantastic but basically unfulfilled potential. Gets into the European system, and on the basis of the press and his highlights reel we decide he is the best in the world, an absolute monster and first picked (captain even) for the Wallabies. But when he runs on in the gold jersey we find he is no better than the guy we let go, just a few more miles on the clock.

Faessler was incredible last year, particularly his lineout accuracy. This year if there is one thing that worries me about the Reds it is that the lineout has gone astray. Hopefully they can recapture 2023’s accuracy without sacrificing all the other gains they have made.

'Be useful': how unrivalled discipline and work rate is lifting the Reds to new heights

I agree with most of what you say. But Suaalii is highly likely to be good enough. If he is as good a player as, say, Perese, but he brings another thousand punters through the door every time he plays and 20 or more headlines a year, then he is worth a lot more than Perese is to the sport. See Israel Folau and Karmichael Hunt’s AFL careers for example.

In those days you could play rugby and have a career. Now you can’t.

RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril

If senior rugby stars are truly questioning Suaalii’s pay they need a good talking to about life and economics. He has garnered more headlines and public attention in his rugby career than Perese, Petaia and Jorgensen put together, and he hasn’t even played a game yet.
In professional sport, you get paid for your value. Most times, but not always, your value is related to how good you are. But it is also related to the PR that you bring and the bums-on-seats that you create.

I still dont understand the love for Jock. Two weeks running he has dropped a short pass with the tryline wide open. He also dawdled on McKenzie’s kick through, and put pressure on Suli with a loopy inside pass.

Five things we learned: Why Schmidt is in a better place than Rennie was, how Kiss has transformed Reds

It was an absolute no-arms shoulder first hit. Amazing that it wasn't penalized more harshly.

'Over the moon': Reds deny Chiefs for 23 PHASES to win 'titanic' trans-Tasman clash as Kiss' revolution continues

If the Reds keep winning, the crowds will come. 2005 – 2008 the ycrowds were terrible, then in 2009 – 2012 they were good, regularly outdrawing the Broncos. Since then years of poor teams has seen them drop off again. But Queenslanders like winners.

He played 80 for Queensland regularly.

'I'm proud': $1.2m man Tupou stars to help Rebels claim second win overseas since 2019, Uelese's best match

It’s the first time the Reds will have played an international side since smashing Scotland 41-5 at Ballymore.

Ah, no. The Reds played the British and Irish Lions in 2013. A Quade Cooper masterclass almost saw them pull off a victory.

'A wonderful initiative': 33-year first as Wales to take on Queensland Reds in 'nod to traditional tours'

He’s only 19, unlike Tom Lynagh, who is 20. 😂

Controversial penalty try. No. Close, yes, unfortunately, yes, unavoidable, probably. But nothing controversial about a correct interpretation of the laws.

Keeping one might.

He is a form and confidence player, and he was well short of both at the RWC. There is no disputing the fact that he was ordinary in Europe, but I’m hoping it isn’t a permanent drop off.

Rugby News: Kiwi ex-cage fighter in line for shock 6N call, Quade's 'ffs' moment, Rennie on ropes, Skelton adds to Dan pain

The old saying – form is temporary, class is permanent. Green was omitted from the Test side after he strained his hamstring. Marsh has played undroppable cricket since he got his chance. If Marsh was not in form or if he was injured, Green would be straight back in. As to the “bloke who played 4 Tests as a fast bowler” – surely if you appoint a coach you have to back him to make team decisions?

Giving Green light to opener experiment could work - but that doesn’t mean it’s the right option
