Djokovic could play in French Open due to loophole

By Peter Darrow / Roar Guru

News is filtering out that Novak Djokovic may be able to play in the French Open under new covid rules.

Various news platforms are reporting on this including the New York Post.

His initial banning from the French Open was seen by many as justifying Australia’s treatment of Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic could be allowed to defend his French Open title even if he is still not vaccinated when the clay-court Grand Slam starts in May.

According to La Gazetta, “Apparently Novak won’t need an exemption at all. He had covid in Dec 2021 so for the next 6 months he has a vaccine pass until June 26/27. That’s the law applying from Jan 24. This is what is required for people living in France”.

It is suggested he will experience little difficulty getting into France.

The Express UK also confirmed the story.

It was reported earlier that he may be denied entry to France after a recent law change mandating the use of vaccine passports in order to enter public places, and given President Emmanuel Macron’s tough stance on vaccination.

“The new law in France came into effect on Monday. Djokovic’s participation in the French Open had come under the scanner after Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu warned that a law requiring people to display a vaccine pass to access public places would be passed soon.” reported Republic World.com.

7 news.com.au reported today: “Djokovic’s hopes received a boost today that he may be able to play in the French Open”. But barely days after the new law was announced, reports have emerged of a loophole that could allow Djokovic to enter Roland-Garros.”

India TV also stated: “That suggests Djokovic could play in the French Open in May and June, the next Grand Slam tournament, because he has said he tested positive in mid-December.”

The French sports ministry was not immediately available to answer questions from The Associated Press on Djokovic.

So, the media are talking about Djokovic having a potential loophole that could see him play in the French Open and defend the title he won in 2021 against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

If a loophole is available would he still be prepared to take it? Would the reception in France, if he played, be different to Australia where he attracted widespread condemnation?

Covid restrictions appear to be easing in Britain, will this be the case for France as well? The number of people in intensive care units has dropped in recent days in France. And if restrictions are eased will that further change the response to Djokovic playing?

The focus in France has mainly been on the vaccine pass and the new pass only works for people who are fully vaccinated and those who recently recovered from the virus.

French Open organisers have previously said it’s too early to comment since virus restrictions can change between now and May depending on the virus situation.

Djokovic’s team also declined to comment Monday. Djokovic said earlier he would not give public statements until the end of the Australian Open.

The saga continues, is this media speculation and has Djokovic already resigned himself to not playing in the French Open?

Or will he take advantage of the loophole and aim for another title?

The proof will be if he steps onto the court for his first match.

An interesting BBC investigation into discrepancies in ND's tests in Serbia may end up showing that his positive test result was in fact either fa*ked or at least fraudulently back-dated. Both ND's team and the Serbian Govt are refusing to comment.... Watch this space!

France have just reduced the 6 month period down to 4 months - so no, he wont be playing at the French Open!

I am baffled as to why you imagine it's a loophole. It's how the France has framed the entry rules, as is evident below: The real question is when he recovered from COVID and whether that fits in the 6 month window, given the FO starts on 22 May. "A digital or paper version of one of the following may be provided as a vaccination pass: • A vaccine certificate showing full vaccination, • A certificate of recovery from COVID (from 11 days to 6 months prior), • A certificate of medical reasons for not being vaccinated." Im a lefty, and I'm proud of it. I got the vax 3 times. I've had loads of vaxxes in the past. My fascist parents forced them on me when I was just sucking on a dummy. Well I still suck on a dummy but that's just cause I'm moody and a whinger. I had a couple of months worth of vaxxes to travel overseas a few years ago. And I still got crook. What a jip Joe who? Hockey?

Don't worry Pete , the papers have been served and all the state premiers , governor generals , and Morrison and they will be charged for crimes against humanity ( among a list of other things ) in the near future. That is unless they somehow get a foreign army involved to escalate Australia into a civil war . These va x junkies will be given the unfortunate and unwanted truth about what's been administered to them shortly , and they won't be happy with the news . 2022 is going to be a very tumultuous year.

Rossi Funny how they deny they are lefties, as though it is something to be ashamed of. The media feeds them lies about Joe and they believe it.

No point arguing with a lefty, they are deluded and with them it's the side not the issue. I mean they thought Creepy Joe's speech the other day was articulate!

Has anyone actually seen this apparent visa that was apparently issued by he federal government? Assuming you're correct we still have the false statements made on his immigration docs. Quite a serious offence in some countries.

Dan I would guess that many of the vaccine deaths are attributed to "underlying issues" by medical authorities, which is probably the same principle that should be applied to covid? I was guessing that you were on the left, just like you were guessing that "far right" people were at rallies.

“What do you think would have happened if the vulnerable (elderly) been protected and isolated and the less vulnerable were left to look after them, but get on with their lives?” This question? I’m not sure I understand it? Are saying isolate the elderly and let those looking after them get on with their lives while they look after them? So essentially, apply lockdown measures to just the vulnerable, rather than all of society as a whole? Limiting the impact of the lockdowns on the wider public? If that is your question, then I think the less vulnerable would be at risk of catching Covid, and while mild for them, they could spread it to the vulnerable they work with, and then you have a problem. I thought that was obvious? If that isn’t what you were asking, then sorry, and you may need to rephrase it.

On one of my deployments to Afghanistan we came to the conclusion that the locals were too stupid to debate or reason with. Unfortunately I have to put you in that category as well Peter. 150000 dead in the US from the vaccine? Are you that simple you’d give a report like that any credence. As far as me being “on the left” we’ll, once again you’ve failed to get the facts. But hey, you know what they say about assumptions. Sort of the same as trying to convince people that 99.7% only suffer mild symptoms. You’re failing on so many levels dude. But like I said before, unfortunately common sense has to be common.

Dan We will never know how many people have died from covid (not with) just like we will never know how many have died from the vaccine. Of course hospitals etc are not going to confirm how many have died from vaccine. One report has it at approx 150,000 in the US. If you have a 99.7% chance of surviving covid, no underlying health issues, why be coerced into getting the jab? That is the primary issue here, the coercion on people to get the jab. Lose your job if you don’t get it.For most the symptoms are mild, isolate and spend a few days in bed. To use the term “far right” is ridiculous, funny how the left use that term when they are trying to insult someone. By saying that you are turning this into a political debate (which is usually my job!), before covid the arguments were about man made climate change and Donald Trump now it just happens to be about covid.

Dying from the vaccine? Are you literally that stupid? That’s like one of those 0.000000001 percent things. As for my lack of sympathy for the unvaccinated, we’ll, that’s called Darwinism champ. You know, survival of the fittest. No it’s me is going to miss anyone that dumb. What do I have against the unvaccinated? Oh I don’t know. Just the fact (see that word - FACTS) that by their stupidity they allow the virus to mutate (you may have heard of this thing called Omricon), not to mention their ridiculous rallies that become a breeding ground for far right stupidity. And sorry but I will bring up their selfishness about wanting their own way. Just look at Djokovic as an example of that.

“the old chestnut of dying “with” covid as opposed to dying “from” covid.” No, it’s very simple, you look at the difference between expected deaths, that is the typical number of deaths you would normally expect, and actual deaths. Those figures are out there.
