'Be good to have a break': RA confirms big change for Bledisloe Cup

By The Roar / Editor

The Bledisloe Cup will return to two Tests from this year and stay that way until at least 2025.

Rugby Australia boss Andy Marinos confirmed a New Zealand report that a Test would be dropped, saying the decision was mutual.

“It was the end of a 15-year cycle, so we’ve got to look ahead at our objectives and what is the pathway ahead for us,” Marinos told Fox Sports.

“We need to manage and prioritise how we’re going to go to the World Cup and then we have a Lions year in 2025, which is also another consideration.

“We’ve played each a huge amount over the years and we haven’t been successful – it’s not because of that we’re not wanting to look at it – but we feel for a period it’ll be good to have a break and look at other opportunities against other countries.”

The All Blacks swept Australia 3-0 last year with two of the matches also being included in The Rugby Championship.

Australia hasn’t held the Cup since 2003, winning just 10 of 57 games since then with three draws.

“Whether it’s two or three Tests, Australia’s got to win them twice to regain the trophy,” Marinos said.

“I think with this new schedule, the ball’s in our court to back it up with our performances.”

The Wallabies were due to host the All Blacks twice in Australia this year, but with that now off the table they will take a commercial hit, reported NZ news service stuff.co.nz.

The global calendar is under review with a meeting soon to decide if a global Nations Championship in 2024 is feasible.

Open up your other eye Fox, as there are others, far better, than what Reiko is. Try looking at his skill set, for starters in that position. No vision, won't pass, misses tackles, etc etc etc. The list goes on. If you think the Blues will win the SR, think again, as every time the Saders have been in the final, they've won, whilst under Razor. That from a Landers fan, you heard it from!!

Don’t agree about Reiko he is devloping into a very good centre and in the D as well. An there is no centre in NZ more deadly in atatck as he showed in the international last season. The problem is not Reiko at centre but who the hell is at 12. ALB is beter 12 than 13 and I have not heard one X-AB say otherwise but he was not that special for the AB’s when he did play last season. I do agree Jordan is good at 15 but ….JB offered a long range goal kicking option if not out and out kcker as he was almost used last season and he has a massive defensive punt on him and has been in form again this season for the Canes despite others in that side needing to step up. JB is actually an outstanding 12 where he has played almpst all his rugby carreer before jioning the Canes. Blues IMO will win the NZ comp and the overall comp this year and Reiko at 13 will be big part of that in the D and in attack. You heard it here ist Muzzo ????

No just about 20 over the years Bourkos and at 3 differnt states. The match years ago at in Melbourse – you were so far away from the game it was a joke but at least there no question the Aussies outnumberd the kiwis. But I have been to at least three games – two in Sydeny and one at Suncorp – my home state – where the noise from the kiwi crowds made it almost a home game fro the AB’s and Sydeny can be 50/50/ 55/45 60/40 which is hardly a home game for the Wallabies. Imagine Eden Park or Twickenham or any of the SA stadiums with with 40% + of the crowd not supporting the home side! But the Bledisloe is now so one sided that both sides would benefit from play an extra test against someone else quite frankly.

A desperate attempt to convince people the Wannabees are anything but a dismal failure, year on year. Hilarious.

Totally agree with in most of what you posted WEST. Even Foster's playing players out of their best positions, is very noticeable. A perfect example is Will Jordan, who despite the praise heaped upon him by Wayne Smith, was constantly played on the wing, during last seasons games. OK, true, Jordie is playing well in that position of fullback, but what about those games that Jordie didn't play in??? Yeh, Will was on the wing. Bro, I don't know if you've seen both Sader games this season, as Razor, has used his head by playing Will at Fullback, & he's been an out & out freak. Another one is Reiko, who is a winger, nothing else, due to the sad lack of solid coaching skills in that center position. So it's he, that should be left on the wing, until such time the coach & his staff learn how to coach. ATM, it's so farcical .

Hard to argue with that. It almost looks like "sticking to the processes" "Trusting our skillsets" are the common phrases we get from the coaching team. Maybe a skillset is playing what is in front of you. At times last year it looked like they were wanting to go wide but pulled it back in a bit. Instinct is lacking. However I also think the whole "bubble" thing for 3 mths took its toll over and above the usual.

I’d agree with you.. under normal circumstances. But this is far from normal by the All Blacks. I’m almost wondering if the ABs are getting over coached? Perhaps Foster is killing initiate and individuality also freedom of expression. If you look at Ireland & France, they look to have an almost perfect combination of allowing the players to use initiative and read what’s in front of them with a clear and direct game plan. The ABs look like they’re just going through the motions. I’d understand if we’re trying new tactics or trying to be creative.. But, we’re not. The All Blacks attack is lethargic and unambitious AF! We seem to score despite of our system instead of because of it, with some individual skills paying off. Foster and Moore attack ideas are weak, it’s readable and predictable. Now I’m annoyed thinking about it.. Why does Foster need John Plumtree, Brad Mooar, Scott McLeod and Greg Feek? I’m concerned but almost convinced we’re getting over coached, like that term (helicopter parenting) Why the …. Isn’t Jamie Joseph, Dave Rennie, Scott Robertson and Joe Schmidt our coaches?? Anyway rants over :silly:

Nah Jacko, they have been beaten three times by the Irish, in over 100 years of playing each other. The first lost was when Shag was coach, & Foster his assistant, so in truth Foster has been involved in all three losses. We also might add, he's the first coach to loose to the Puma's in over 50 years of playing each other.

Pretty right there WEST, as with Foster & his not so good staff, IMO this could be the year of the Wallaby. Possibly at home against the, Irish, they just might be ok, but in the Republic I really can't see them getting over the, in what many refer to, as our greatest challenge in rugby, the Bokke. How the NZR got it so wrong, by selecting Foster, has many wondering, seeing we have two coaches in the South, that have far better international records.

Funny enough TJ if you look at results Aus actually win the first 1 often enough. I think its around 7 or 8 first up wins from the last 20 years so they have had plenty of chances to get the cup back.
