Mystery 'medical episode' lands Oliver in hospital as Demons investigate

By News / Wire

Melbourne’s star midfielder Clayton Oliver has been released from hospital after an undisclosed “medical episode”, his AFL club says.

A week after facing an uncertain AFL future, champion Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver was hospitalised for an undisclosed “medical episode”, according to the Demons.

Oliver was taken by ambulance to a Melbourne hospital, the Demons said on Thursday.

The club didn’t specify the reason or the timing of Oliver’s admission and release from hospital.

“Clayton was transported to hospital via ambulance following a medical episode,” the club said in a statement.

“The hospital completed a number of tests and Clayton has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

“The club will continue to work with Clayton and his medical support team to ensure he receives all the necessary treatment.

“We ask that media respect Clayton’s privacy at this time.”

The incident comes a week after Melbourne said Oliver wouldn’t be traded despite reported concerns about his recent behaviour and mental health.

Rival clubs including Adelaide were circling amid rumours of discontent that were quashed by chief executive Gary Pert before last Friday’s club champion function.

“At no stage has the club entered discussions with any club regarding a trade for Clayton,” Pert wrote on Melbourne’s website.

“Furthermore, Clayton has not requested a trade and will remain at the Melbourne Football Club.

“The club has been aware of and supporting Clayton with his personal circumstances for some time and is committed to continuing to do so.”

Oliver, a four-time club champion and triple All Australian, was restricted to 15 games this season because of a hamstring injury.

The 162-gamer is contracted at the Demons until 2030 after signing a multi-million dollar seven-year extension last year.

Clarry fell over he’s a young guy, young people don’t get hospitalised from falls unless they’re from heights or there’s a complicating factor

Only the eagles are fully qualified to deal with this. 2nd rounders and 3rd future 2nd rounder. Who says no.

It wouldn't be due to either's rugged good looks. Still their coach can help with managing potentially career ending episodes

Rumours are just that... Rumours. Clarry was doing things with one of his hosts that the other host found out about and didn't like, and the injuries are not from a fall or walking into a door. Then again, this is the rumour.

What are the rumours? I've heard nothing, scurrilous or otherwise. Likewise, I do hope he's okay, a head-knock warranting a scan sounds quite the fall.
