The Adelaide Crows will be hoping for a return to the winners’ list when they host the GWS Giants at the Adelaide Oval. Follow the match with live scores right here at The Roar from 2:10pm (AEST).
The Crows had their hearts broken in Round 6 after blowing a 32-point lead to lose to Hawthorn by just three points. Despite remarkable accuracy in front of goal, booting 16.3 for the day – and an AFL record 14 goals straight in the first half – a lacklustre finish saw them fall out of the top eight.
Adelaide fans will be thrilled to see last year’s pick no.2, Riley Thilthorpe, play his first game in front of a home crowd. Having booted five goals on debut against the Hawks, the key forward made an instant splash at AFL level, and will again be central to the Crows’ chances.
The Giants have rebounded strongly from a disastrous first three rounds, but a 39-point loss to the Western Bulldogs ended their winning streak at two and leaves them well off the pace for a finals berth.
Once again, it will be up to acting captain Toby Greene to lead the way. He’s kicked 18 goals across the first six rounds, including four against the Dogs, so the Crows simply must find a way to curb his influence at any cost.
One of the Crows’ three wins in a dire 2020 season was over the Giants at the Adelaide Oval, a 12-point win in Round 16 that helped see the Giants miss finals. The home fans will undoubtedly be hoping to see history repeat.

Not sure you’ve got a real grasp on what actually happened during the French Revolution there, Chucka.

Don’t be too hard on them Rowdy. They are definitely a better team in 2021 than last year. They will benefit from this experience and hopefully for their fans continue to improve. I note that all wooden spooners on the come back trail have slip ups. This was just one those days.

Great win by the Giants, I do enjoy their anthem of the motherland team song. Makes me wants to crack out the guillotines and rebel against the bougeoise.

True, good to see Hogan get up and going. Just make Toby captain - it sits well with him.

I think the thing that frustrates me is 4 goals 14 behinds from the crows. Now a lot of that can be attributed to windy conditions or rushed behinds but this is horrendous.

While they’ve lost polish, GWS haven’t lost any toughness. They make you earn it. Obviously Adelaide didn’t get the memo.
