It’s the champs versus the challengers at the Gabba as the Richmond Tigers travel to face the Brisbanee Lions. Stay up to date with this AFL blockbuster through live scores right here on The Roar from 7:50pm (AEDT).

Once the most feared side in the land, a horror run of injuries has seen the Tigers fall down the pecking order to start 2021. Missing stars Trent Cotchin, Shane Edwards, Kane Lambert and Dion Prestia, just to name a few, and it’s little wonder the reigning premiers head to the Gabba as underdogs.

Nevertheless, the Tigers remain seriously hard to beat. They pinched a remarkable victory over GWS last week, despite trailing by as much as 27 points, with Daniel Rioli booting a last-gasp winner that keeps them well and truly in the top eight. If any team can defy the doubters and take the Lions down, it’s them.

However, Chris Fagan’s men are as imposing as ever – especially at home. They’ve won five matches in a row to recover from a sluggish start to the year, last week obliterating crosstown rivals Gold Coast by 73 points. With boom Joe Daniher fitting in superbly up forward, breakout youngster Zac Bailey a more than handy substitution for the injured Lachie Neale in midfield and Hugh McCluggage officially entering the competition’s elite, it’s indisputable the Lions will be challenging for the flag once again in 2021.

These two teams staged a thrilling qualifying final when they last met in October 2020, with the Lions prevailing by 15 points to, briefly, appear to have ended the Tigers’ era. Briefly.

Pretty sure if you read through all the Posts you’ll see that no-one here said the Umpiring cost us the game. The Umpiring was terrible and strongly favoured Brisbane but it was the fact that Richmond was missing 90% of their midfield that cost them and the Lions were way too good after 1/4 time.

Joe, I was at the game. Great atmosphere, when the Tigers are in town everyone comes out. Lions real good, Bailey brilliant, McClugage great, great goal by Madden. Mathieson was hard at it, hope they can bring this form to Melbourne. Some of the Lions players just have to remember there’s generally a return game, so I reckon they may cop a bit from the Tiger fans at the G.

in comparison to scat park, adelaide oval, gabba & optus oval for example opposition teams would surely get more exposure to the mcg due to there being at least 4 tenants there who play nearly all their home games there

I know 8 teams that don't get many games there.

finals aside rowdy, how does the mcg give a greater advantage than any other ground ? i would argue that because there are multiple teams based at the mcg opposition clubs get to play there more often than other venues, thus diluting the home ground advantage.

Balta actually took ball first to my eyes and then it was incidental contact as they fell to earth like Bowie twins.

Not a game that tells us a lot given both teams' outs. Brisbane still need to kick straight and the Tigers will improve at home and once they get some cattle back. There's enough of a cushion between the top 8 and the rest so finals should be make able for both.

See a lot similarities to our Three peat team. Starting to play with ruthless aggression. The fact Mathieson , Robbo and few others gave it verbally to the Tigers good signs. No longer can going to let teams have it over them. It’s been lacking previously playing against the Tigers

Give it a spell... there was a passage of play in Brisbane forward line that two separate Richmond players both blatant holding the ball calls, the second one to the point everyone stopped.. Early on Daniher nearly got decapitated no free kick. Brisbane got the better of 50/50’s absolutely but you one side umpiring call is absolute garbage

In Hardwick press conference he was a bit concerned regarding some of the systems that are in place that went horribly wrong. Regardless of missing mids the backs & forward structure was out of kilter. Tigers Elimination final starts next week against Adelaide if they lose that game, the press will get the daggers out!
