Collingwood will be looking to return to their winning ways when they host a West Coast outfit that appears to be past the worst of their horrible COVID run. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:35pm (AEST).
There has been something refreshing and encouraging about Collingwood in 2022 under new coach Craig McRae. The greater sense of freedom given to the players has seen the stodgy and restrictive play that dominated the Nathan Buckley era become a thing of the past, and in line with the general AFL trend, points have been far easier to come by for the Magpies.
After wins against St Kilda and Adelaide, the Pies did everything but defeat high-flying Geelong last weekend, before the emotion of Joel Selwood’s captaincy landmark lifted the Cats to an astonishing final quarter. Beforehand, there was more than enough on show to suggest that the Pies will be playing finals football this season and destined to give many of the favoured clubs an unexpected fright.
In bad news for the Pies heading into this fixture, Taylor Adams is absent due to health and safety protocols and Jordan De Goey is suspended. However, if there was every a week to have key players missing this could well be it.
West Coast have lived a nightmare thus far in 2022, with a squad ravaged by COVID and the associated demands of the health and safety protocols.
Coach Adam Simpson has often been forced to introduce himself to new players during the week at training sessions; young men stepping in from the WAFL and potentially well off AFL standard. As such, the season has brought nothing but losses thus far, yet there is better new on the selection front with Tom Barrass, Liam Duggan, Willie Rioli and Xavier O’Neill all returning, although Andrew Gaff is a disappointing out against the Pies.
Prediction
On paper, this looks like another big loss for the Eagles, with numerous players still unavailable and another fortnight required before a team resembling anywhere near their best will take to the field.
It will continue to be a hard road to hoe in the short term and if Collingwood enter the contest in a ruthless and committed frame of mind, they should be far too good in this one.

Well ahhh certainly expected that result.... I wrote us off 2018 like I have this year so yeah why not give us another lol To tank or not too tank. Too much pride in this club I guess was looking forward to what we would do with our new bounty of draft pics apparently that might not happen. Really mixed feelings about it all Love ya Collingwood

As I said to Macca during the week a win would not necessarily prove anything but a loss would.

It was hard work. Accuracy got us over the line. Rioli and Ryan were more than Collingwood could cope with. So happy for the team and all the crew.

I am. Dixon, Naish, Foley did enough. Kennedy is just great. Barrass takes an excellent mark. Pies' were inefficient but they were often under pressure.

Well that sucked. Big reality check for my beloved Pies the last two weeks. We are a bottom four team this year. Congrats West Coast, well deserved. Mammoth task for us against Brisbane next week. It could get ugly.
