The North Melbourne Kangaroos host the Adelaide Crows in a Saturday night showdown for Round 4 of the AFL season. Join us for live scores and a blog here at The Roar from 7:25pm (AEST).

Both teams have started the 2019 season in less than spectacular fashion with North Melbourne winless after the first three rounds and Adelaide with just one win from their three games.

North Melbourne started off last week against Hawthorn strongly and took a nine-point lead going into the second half, but Hawthorn though found their groove in the tightly contested match running away with a 16-point win.

Adelaide couldn’t find their footing from the first bounce, they did manage to tighten the game up to get to three points behind midway through the fourth before Geelong with the help of Gary Ablett pulled away for a 22-point win.

Ben Brown has been in the firing line from former North great Wayne Carey for his lack of ground work ability, can that strike a fire in him and see him get back to his dominant best, or will Daniel Talia look to exploit any weakness in Brown’s game?

Rory Laird has a good track record against North Melbourne in past outings and will look to continue that form to help his side get over the current slump they are in.

Eddie Betts similarly to Ben Brown has also been underperforming this season and will want a bounce-back game especially with North missing Marley Williams this week.

With both sides wanting to breathe life back into their seasons this game looks set to be a hotly contested affair.

Can North get on the winner’s list for the first time this season or will they still be anchored to the bottom of the ladder?

Will Adelaide again falter for the third time this season and slide further down the ladder or can they resurrect what should be a bounce-back season?

If Adelaide can get their forward line firing then it could be a long night for the Kangaroos, North has looked good in the previous two games but will need to stay competitive from start to finish if they are to win.

The winner will be decided by which Forward line can get back to their best, will Tex Walker rebound after kicking just one goal from the Crows two losses or will Ben Brown quiet his critics for the time being?

Not only Pyke but I reckon the payers don't want to play for Tex Walker the Captain. Not only is he not performing, and hasn't for a couple of years now, he looks to have taken over as on-field coach and admonished Brad Crouch after he kicked a goal last night for not handballing to a player in a better position. Looks like there is still dissension within the ranks at Adelaide.

Which soccer-style playing for a free kick act are you referring to? Don't get me wrong the Roos outplayed the Crows.

Crows struggle without the ball. Their forwards are too lazy to apply pressure which is fatal these days.

The Crows have hit a real low point here. Serious questions need to be asked of Don Pyke and the players. This is a game they surely would have marked down as a win as I can't see North winning too many this season. The Crows players just don't appear to want to play for Pyke at the moment. Pretty scrappy game but the Kangas looked in complete control for virtually the last 40 minutes and the Crows didn't give a whimper. There were a lot of questionable half-hearted efforts by Crows players in that game. Their season could slip away if they don't correct it quickly.

Game over. A big win from North Melbourne as they storm home with a 9.17.71 - 8.11.59 win over Adelaide at Marvel Stadium. The Kangaroos sent a message from the word go as they came in from the first bounce trying to show the Crows that this was not going to be an easy game for them. North dominated the inside 50 all night but struggled to get the ball into a scoring position for the large majority of the first half. Adelaide were consistently able to score from their inside 50 chances but they were few and far between early on. The Defensive pressure from North Melbourne was impressive all night and they lead the tackle count x to x. The first goal was not until the 12 minute mark of the game as Eddie Betts got the Crows in the major scoring category early. Shaun Higgins was the first goal scorer for the Kangaroos but it was his only major for the game. The second quarter was much the same as the first with the Kangaroos struggling to find their scoring touch despite leading the inside 50’s by almost double for much of the first half. A 9 point lead to the Crows gave the Kangaroos a sniff to get back into the game but it looked difficult with the struggles in front of goal. North Continued their stingy defensive pressure in the 3rd quarter and it began to pay off as Ben Brown took control in the third kicking 3 goals and turning the game on it’s head for the Kangaroos. Adelaide only managed 1 goal in third term as North looked to take control. The Kangaroo’s continued their dominance in the fourth kicking 2 quick goals and blowing their lead out to 18 points at one stage. Adelaide attempted to make a comeback in the middle of the fourth but were not able to break the North defensive wall with consistency. Ben Brown was impressive after a week of criticism while Tex Walker will no doubt feel the ire of critics for his lone goal of the game and kicking just 2 goals in the three losses the Crows have had this season. Both sides will have to work on their set shots at training this week with a poor display from both sides despite being in good position. Ziebell was great for the Kangaroos throughout as were Jared Polec and Shaun Higgins. Adelaide had a few standouts on the night with Rory Laird and Matt Crouch both being impressive but neither able to lift their side to a win. Adelaide and North are now on 1 win from their 4 games. North Melbourne face Essendon at Marvel next week and the Crows will be playing Gold Coast at Adelaide oval.
