The St Kilda Saints face a real test to their two-game winning streak when they take on the Geelong Cats on Friday night. Keep updated with all the action from Marvel Stadium with live scores on The Roar from 7:50pm (AEST).
Wins over Gold Coast and Hawthorn in the past fortnight have revived hopes the Saints can again reach the finals despite a horror start to 2021.
However, the in-form Cats pose a much sterner test than either of the Suns or Hawks. To emerge victorious, the Saints will need veteran ruckman Paddy Ryder to again stand tall. The big man’s return from personal leave has coincided with his team’s run, and against the Cats’ famously fragile ruck stocks, Ryder is primed to have a strong impact again.
The Cats, too, had an indifferent start to the season; but their stunning 63-point win over Richmond last Friday night proved once and for all they have shaken off the cobwebs.
Sitting pretty in fourth on the ladder, and with key forward pairing Tom Hawkins and Jeremy Cameron forming a lethal combination in the latter’s first season at Kardinia Park, the Cats look as menacing as any team in the competition.
The Saints have beaten the Cats just once in 11 matches since their 2010 qualifying final triumph; a 3-point win back in 2016. The Cats were far too good for them last time they met, too, winning by 59 points at the Gabba in Round 11 last year.
Opening bounce: 7:50pm (AEST)
Venue: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne
TV: Fox Footy, Channel Seven (VIC/TAS/NT/SA), 7mate (NSW, QLD, WA)
Live stream: Kayo Sports, Foxtel Now, Foxtel Go
Betting: Saints $3.15, Cats $1.36 (odds via PlayUp)

Oh they are. That's why I said it. Doesn't make sense saying things I don't think.

Precisely. To dominate a game like that and still lose. Won’t get opportunities like that to often. Cats turned it on for three minutes and it was game over.

Only lost to teams currently residing in the Top 5 and the only side to beat the 2nd placed Dogs in 8 rounds. Not travelling as bad as you think.

The Cats got the four points. Sadly. That`s the game.

PeterB, you must be joking, Saints 85 tackles, & smacked the cats in our forward line & centre ( despite atrocious kicking for goal). Cats could not get out of first gear!

Tiges have less out than most teams...and are still playing badly. More likely than not to miss.

Ryder's tap work and body work at the bounce was outstanding. Every other aspect of the contest was won by Ratugolea.

But Rohan got it more and you said he was quiet. Both did their jobs well.

The jinx lives on. Hawkins 2 goals, crouch 25+ and Geelong by 25+. All I can say is, FML.lol.

The one that got away. Dam you saints, I still remember last year when you came over and kicked 12.1 for the game against us, they could of kicked the ball backwards with their eyes closed and it still went through the middle that night.lol. Well played though from what i saw intensity wise.

The Saints should take a lot of pride from their pressure, they’ve shown that it can throw the best sides off their game. But the inaccuracy man, I would’ve left Max King out there doing set shots across half time so he can work the yips out of his system

Not s great game to watch. Made worse by bad umpiring. Injury bills for both sides should be sent to the umpires.

We might be at cross purposes. I'm expressing surprise the Eagles managed to lose to this st kilda team. You appear to be referring to the WCE game at Geelong this season. I'm reminding you Geelong lost at Optus last year too.

You lost to them?

I was talking about St kilda. Long way to go in the season. Last I checked the Cats lost in Perth past year too.

I think everyone underestimated the saints. They played well today. Geelong found marvel dificult to play on. But in the end they did what they needed to do.

The word lose might be a slight understatement. Was it 96 points?

Brett didn’t look well tonight. The red face looks like very high blood pressure. I hope he is OK.
