Round 7 finishes with arguably the match of the weekend, as top-four contenders Sydney and Brisbane do battle in an SCG blockbuster. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 4:40pm (AEST).
Both the Lions and Swans are in ripping nick, sitting 5-1 to be well and truly among the biggest challengers to reigning premiers Melbourne.
The Lions’ only defeat has come in a narrow loss to another powerhouse in Geelong away from home, while the Swans’ blip came in Round 3 against the now-struggling Western Bulldogs.
Last week, Sydney stunned Hawthorn with a nine-goal final term to claim victory by 41 points having trailed for much of the day. With two goals, reborn livewire Ben Ronke was among those leading the charge, while Callum Mills played perhaps the best game of his career with an inspirational 37-touch performance.
The Lions were too good for crosstown rivals Gold Coast from start to finish in the QClash, with exciting youngster Zac Bailey excelling with a career-high five goals. Bailey, alongside 2017 number one draft pick Cam Rayner, are among the next generation of Lions powering them into premiership contention; the pair are a brilliant foil for stars Lachie Neale and Hugh McCluggage in midfield.
The Swans regain goalsneak Tom Papley for his first game of the season in a major boost, while veteran Josh Kennedy returns to the starting 22 after a fortnight as medical sub. For the Lions, medi-sub Jaxson Prior is the only change, coming in for the injured Kai Lohmann.

Don’t agree that the Swans are a class below Melbourne Brisbane Freo and Geelong . In this years match the Swans were several shades better than Geelong. With Fremantle it’s too early to say. On the evidence of this round Freo are level pegging or slightly better than Geelong. So Sydney should be competitive against the Dockers.. On the evidence of this round also Brisbane are the form team of the comp. currently playing better than Melbourne – though that can change. Swans fans should be disappointed but not devastated. Sydney only lost one quarter today and on the play should have been 3 goals up at quarter time. However you can’t take a quarter off in this caper. The 5 goal margin Brisbane earned in the second was the story of the game. The Lions were outstanding throughout the match – clean and ruthless. Can’t wait for the Demons/Lions showdown!

'An excellent result?' Oh dear...I wouldn't go that far. I was at the game. The SCG was rocking. So great to see everyone roll up in the NRL state. Brisbane was the better side. Well done. Hope Joe will be okay.

Dear Roar, I understand that you need to make money. But could you please run a totally separate page for pictures of scrawny women in transparent underwear? I am not interested and it clutters up the stuff I do want to read. It would also mean the heavy breathers wouldn’t have to wander all over the site to get their jollies looking at pictures of stuff they are the most likely to buy anyway, which would be a kindness to them.

Glad to have that 13 year monkey off our back! Hope Joey not a long term issue- he’s been great for us! Neale is a jet, really hope he doesn’t go home end of the season. Raynor getting better! How the hell did the Cats not play Fort ? He been great! Like another key defender instead of Darcy Gardiner! Still has me yelling at my tV every weekend

You would have the swans above the cats?

Below the cats. Your having a laugh. Contain Hawkins and Cameron and cats have nothing threatening. Oh besides Stewart who is classy as hell

Yep, they’re a work in progress. Can put on some exciting football, but take the wrong option at times.

Swans utterly outclassed by a superior outfit. Still a year or two away from contending for the flag. Below Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle and geelong
